As Sharp As Attacks

(As always, you can click the cartoon for a larger view)
As Yogi Berra would say, "It's Deja Vu all over again." Only this time we're not talking about Barack Obama's latest effort to spend hundreds of billions of dollars (that we don't have) on shovel ready jobs (which don't exist).

No, we're talking about "Attack Watch," the new website which exists for the sole purpose of letting people rat out anyone who speaks negatively of Barack Hussein Obama. The website, which sports a black background which is about as welcoming as a hug from Darth Vader, invites people to share what "attack" they've heard, where they heard it, and promises that tipsters will receive 30 pieces of silver in the future "if those terrorist sons of bitches in the GOP House just pass the president's entirely paid for spending bill".

Okay, it doesn't actually say that, but it's pretty clearly implied.

And the reason that all of this smells so familiar is because Obama did it all before when he demanded that citizens turn in their neighbors at the offensively-named Flag@Whitehouse.gov a couple of years ago (and which Hope n' Change covered here).

And while all of this suggests the frightening totalitarian mindset of Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, or East Germany, there is good news to report.

The president's "Attack Watch" website has rapidly been turned into one of the biggest jokes on the Internet by tens of thousands of Americans who believe that Freedom of Speech is something to be exercised instead of reported.
..and that attacks on the Constitution are more dangerous than attacks on a sleazy, hate-mongering political hack from Chicago.

I believe that this level of idiocy can only come from Obama himself. Had any lower level goon thought this up, some marginally more intelligent staffer would have given him a wedgie and stuffed his head in the toilet for suggesting a repetition of that earlier disaster. But an Obama decision is handed down on stone tablets and treated like the closest thing to gospel that this bunch of heathen pricks can imagine.

When I first heard about this yesterday, I didn't believe it, especially after that embarrassing Flag@Whitehouse.gov blunder. But when I got home and looked, there it was!

Whenever we see any organization come up with something is idiotic or insane as this, we look at each other and ask "Was there nobody in the room who thought to raise their hand and say 'Hey, this might be a bad idea.'"

Clearly, there are none of those kinds of people left at the Obama Administration, which really is kinda scary.

I suggest that each and every blog post and the better comments here be posted at "Attack Watch". (I'd be honored to have my comments there) Who knows, perhaps the goofuses who run the thing might accidentally learn something.

BO's entire staff is made up of ass-kissers that are either incredibly stupid or are afraid of him, and I think there is a fair percentage of staffers that fall under both catagories (can anyone say, "Jay Carney?"). The only staffer with any balls is Hillary, and I swear she actually is enjoying the circus and secretly hoping BO goes down in flames.

I have never visited this site, but now I'm going to go check it out.

Today I will proudly wear my Hope 'n Change watch featuring a donkey's rear end since everything coming out of this administration seems to turn into turds. Interesting to read in today's WSJ that the huge loan the Obama administration gave Solyndra was probably their "undoing." Solyndra built a new factory with the money hoping to achieve economies of scale and ended up instead with huge fixed costs. And the debt
"paradoxically made raising more money difficult. Once the government demanded priority in the event of failure, private investors were less likely to prop up the company." Wonder who's going to take the fall for this one.

I've heard of an attack dog, but never an attack watch. What does it do, chime to alert the wearer of danger or something?

No, but actually, isn't it America's favorite sport to attack politicians as nattering nabobs of negativism? Isn't our job to make sure they dance to our tune and stay on their toes? And maybe if the president did something right so many wouldn't be attacking him, eh?

On the other hand; nice to know that We the People (at least some of us) have made immediate mincemeat of a foolish idea. Perhaps though, Obama can say this website created a job. One, maybe two jobs; but hey, it's a start, right?

And Lordy, for a grown man, the most powerful one on earth even, to worry about people attacking him? hahaha! Wuss. I'm sure somewhere, alas, there's a "presidential respect" law coming to Congress. Though, he did make us all laugh, so two points for that Barack.

You know a meme has peaked when people start posting "Downfall" mash-ups. BTW, love that bold color scheme! Too bad this didn't come out ten months from now.

I've been having a ball with the new site. Latest submission- "I've heard many, many people saying that this site is evidence of Obama's paranoid nature, even hearing one person jokingly say "I'm Obama- Help me, the paranoids are gonna' get me!" These attacks have got to STOP! and they should all be put in the gulag! Oops, I mean JAIL!" So far I've submitted about 6, but heck- The day's young!

I heard talk radio hosts making fun of this and thought it was the flag@... thing. I thought, why would they be bringing that up again? The idea that Obama put up another tattle-tale website just never occurred to me. But then after I read a story about it I guess it makes sense. That's all he's got are old, tired ideas that have failed in the past.

Honestly it's kind of sick and twisted in a nation founded on free speech that the President asks citizens to rat out other citizens. Honestly, I think the Jimmy Carter comparisons are pretty unfair to Jimmy Carter. He was simply a poor leader with bad ideas. Obama and his Chicago-style thuggery are way beyond that.

Pete(Detroit) said...

Sadly, it's not entirely a bad idea - if people are actually putting out bad info, it's handy to have the right stuff correlated into one easy to use site. Unfortunately, the FACTS are stubborn things, and NO amount of spinning will make them go away.

JustaJeepGuy said...

With so many "attacks" posted there now, how is anyone going to find the "real falsehoods" that someone who is actually on Barack Hussein's side will post? This is truly moronic! But what else can you expect from the brainiacs at the White House these days?

Bacon said...

had to share this- I signed up as a supporter for Obama's re-election (keep your enemies closer...) and attached is the body of an email I just received. No time to campaign??? I just about fell out of my chair laughing! Yeh, but he's either in Washington or Chicago, huh? Oh brother...
--Friend --

You got an email from the President a couple days ago, inviting you to sit down to dinner with him.

I know some people might think this is just some kind of trick or something. It's not.

The fact is that someday soon, four people reading this note right now will be on a plane to have dinner with President Obama in Washington, or Chicago, or wherever he might be that day.

Think about that for a second. The four people who win will sit down with the President of the United States of America -- not for a two-minute photo-op or a quick meet-and-greet, but for a private meal with face-to-face conversation. That's just not something too many people will ever get to do.

The President obviously has very little time to spend on anything related to the campaign. And this is how he chooses to spend it -- having real, substantive conversations with people like you.

This is really something you should be a part of.

Donate $5 today and you'll be automatically entered for the chance to have dinner with the President and three other supporters.

Worst-case scenario: you don't get selected. But if you donate, you'll have pitched in to support an organization that's funded at the grassroots level by folks across the country -- not Washington lobbyists or special-interest PACs. You'll have given this campaign a boost, however small, to hire organizers, open offices, and build our organization this fall so it's ready for the hard work ahead of us.

And best-case scenario, you'll find yourself sitting across the dinner table from President Obama.

So give it a shot -- donate $5 or more today:

https://donate.barackobama.com/Dinner

Thanks,

Messina

@Readers- D'oh!!! I posted a comment quite awhile ago, and now I find it's not here (nor is it in the mysterious spam folder). Sorry you haven't heard from me earlier today, but it's not been for lack of trying!

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

@Angry Hoosier Dad, John the Econ, and Colby- Clearly there's no one left anywhere near Obama who either has good ideas, or the nerve to shoot down bad ones.

@Anonymous (4th from top)- You touched yourself in the Chicken Bone Saloon? (I'm assuming if Uncle Omar hangs out there, it's a bad place).

@Earl- It seems very likely that Obama's "green jobs" money kills green technologies, the same way that his "job stimulus" money has killed jobs. Basically, you can't outwit market forces, but with enough money you can make the systems break down. The only question now is whether or not it's intentional.

@Anonymous (ten above)- Your comment may have been reported, but what do you want to bet that it will be processed by a call center in India?

@Jim Hlavac- And notice that Obama wants to call anything negative an "ATTACK!" instead of a "criticism" or (just maybe) "the truth." It's hard (and disgusting) for such a powerful man to try to spin himself as a victim, but he's giving it a shot.

@Dan- Yes, the "forbidding, midnight black" scheme went over sooooo well with Obama's "bus from Hell" tour that they were eager to weave the same lack-of-color scheme into the snitch website. Which, for all we know, was designed in Canada like the bus.

@Bacon- The Obama campaign has got to be drowning in one-liners at this point. I hope they spend all of their $1 billion in campaign funds this wisely!

@FlyFishNevada- The "Flag@Whitehouse.gov" campaign played out almost exactly the way this has, with people either amused or outraged (or both). The fact that Obama's team was stupid enough to try a failed gimmick again is a perfect parallel to the way Obama's failed policies keep getting repeated again and again and again...

@Pete(Detroit)- I agree, there's nothing wrong with a site which would give FACTS to rebut rumors. But this Gestapo-lite approach is the wrong way to go about it. All Obama's team would really need to do is look at the DrudgeReport each day, and post rebuttal information on their own site. But they don't...because what they really want is A) email addresses to spam as potential donors, and B) names to add to their enemies list.

@JustaJeepGuy- No one is going to find anything useful on that site, ever.

@Bacon- I'm on that same mailing list, though haven't coughed up my $5 yet to try winning dinner with Obama. I have a hunch that even if my name was drawn, a quick background search would lead to an (ahem) "clerical error" that would knock me out of the running.

Besides, I shouldn't have to pay $5 for dinner with Obama. 43 million Americans a day get to eat with him ("Don't worry, folks! I'll pick up the check, I print my own foodstamps!") every day.

Earlier today, I was walking past our left-wing administrative assistant's cube and stuck my nose in to tease her by telling her that I was disappointed in her because she hadn't posted me on Attack Watch. She just hmmphed so I said, "It IS a pretty good joke isn't it?" She erupted! "There's a LOT of jokes out there!" She said. "Like Perry and Palin, those are two BIG jokes!" She raved on for awhile in this vein. As thin-skinned as most liberals. And they like to tell the rest of us how to be tolerant. =D Finally a coworker wandered by and said, jokingly, SOME joke, "That's nothing. I want to burn the Constitution."

On that note I wandered off and as I did, the leftie admin sputtered, "I wish they WOULD burn the Constitution!"

Caught her out, telling the truth in an unguarded moment.

The great civil war of values goes on.Coming up next: an ugly little revolution. Non-violent, please God.

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

@Doktor Paulie- When two people want to burn the Constitution, it's officially a conspiracy. Better turn them in to ATTACKWATCH!

@badlarry- That idea sounds as frighteningly plausible as it does familiar.

@pryorguy- It has been an enjoyable week watching Obama's chickens come home to roost: AttackWatch, Solyndra, LightSquared, and (more sadly) rising unemployment numbers. As The Hollies once sang, "He's King Midas in reverse."

PrincessColumbia_old said...

#2 should have been #1.

John the Econ said...

That's quite disturbing: The same people who endlessly fretted about Bush shredding Constitutional rights openly fantasize about burning it?

That is possibly the biggest difference between conservatives and liberals; Conservatives know the Constitution is there to protect all citizens at all times. Liberals are only interested in it when it saves their sorry assess, and are in contempt of it the rest of the time.

And it's reasons like this which make the 2nd Amendment so important.

I don't know why you said "Gestapo-lite" Stilt. If the Nazi's had Internet back when they fist came to power, AttackWatch would be exactly how Hitler and his Gestapo would go about it. Though, I think the Internet is less effective for dictators than word-of-mouth, and, make no mistake, the Gestapo used this exact same tactic through word-of-mouth.

The Gestapo were scary, and no law-abiding citizen wanted to report exactly how they felt about the policy. They scared opinions they didn't want to hear away, and the acted on opinions they did want to hear.

AttackWatch is seen for what it is. It is a Gestapo tactic, taken word-by-word, from Hitler. There is literally no ideological difference. However, the execution has failed, and it has failed epically. It is seen as a joke by at least two-thirds of the population, and a great number of them are using it (repeatedly) to report real attacks on people and this Great Nation, or they are using it as a useful "used toilet paper" repository - as many posters here have asserted.

I've heard Jimmy Hoffa was reported for his call to violence. I've heard Maxine Waters and others from the CBC (excluding Alan West of course) were reported for their inflammatory remarks. I heard the SEIU (?) was reported for beating a black man for attending a Tea Party rally. I've heard the people in charge of Washington (Obama, Pelosi, Reid) were reported for their varied treasonous acts.

The list goes on. In the end, the site is both hilarious and hair-raising. The idea that politicians are willing and able to used early Gestapo tactics and not recognize them for what they are is flat-out disturbing. Don't get me wrong; it's also, more importantly, very telling.

AttackWatch is not Gestapo-lite. It is the early stages of Gestapo propaganda and control. It is an agenda, and it's Chicago-style thuggery. It's Union-style thuggery. It's the same thuggery we've seen since the beginning the the Progressive's movement to regress this Great Nation.

As was said on 9/11, never forget. It's the creed of the righteous Americans, and it doesn't only apply to appalling acts by fundamentalist, Sharia Muslims. It applies to the every day.

We shall stand up and let our voices be heard. We'll stand up peaceably to voice our First Amendment rights, and we'll rebuke whomever attempts to infringe upon them. We shall never forget the violent acts and rhetoric leveled by so-called liberals who believe in the very opposite of liberty through liberal and malicious misinterpretation of the Constitution.

We are a nation founded by rule-of-law, and we shall be returned to it!

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

@Christy "Dame Helen" McFarland- You have discerning taste in humor! Originally I had the #2 answer as #1, and I kept going back and forth between the two. It ended up being a coin flip, though I must admit that in hindsight I actually like the "refrigerator" joke best.

@John the Econ- Excellent point. I support the Constitution even when it dictates things that may be hard for me to accept, because I know that all of the pieces need to be respected to make the other pieces work. And no, I'm not talking about outdated things like making blacks only 3/5 human or anything stupid like that. But I do believe that "Free Speech" shouldn't have to meet government approved standards. And additionally, anyone who is openly anti-Constitution is (by definition) anti-American. And we shouldn't be reluctant to label them as such.

@Anonymous (immediately above)- Great post, and I encourage you to get a user name so we can recognize your comments in the future. I agree with you right down the line. The only reason I called this effort "Gestapo-lite" was because they don't (apparently) have an enforcement & punishment wing to go with it...although some of the people reported may coincidentally start having tax audit problems, or other governmental snafus.

But clearly, the will to control people, to divide people, and to inspire fear and anger are all tools in Obama's Chicago "black bag." We can laugh about how ineffective this was...but we'd better be laughing nervously, because this clearly indicates that this president is radically opposed to basic American freedoms and principles.

Referring to the 'gestapo' labeling...

Anon above said..."The Gestapo were scary, and no law-abiding citizen wanted to report exactly how they felt about the policy."

Reminded me of when the German people were liberated in WW2 and the Allies were running the show. The Allies felt that the folks in many towns, where a concentration camp was in operation with its starvation and mistreatment of 'inferior' people, that the citizens knew roughly what was going on but did nothing to let it be known to the world. The Allies were actually astounded that such ghastly cruelties were being wrought on prisoners of all ethnicities. So...the Americans in charge forced everyone in those towns to come to the camps and view the carnage, and then forced them to help bury all the dead.

This is typical behavior, I think of those in charge who want no freedom of thought or especially speech. And it IS a little scary that we see a bit of that being attempted right here at home!

@Stilton - I, too, like #2 better, and have paraphrased it already ... and will continue to do so until the defeat of Øbama in November, 2012.

A: If your refrigerator is running ... it could beat Øbama in 2012!

Hope you don't mind ... ?

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

@Chuck- Hey, go for it! In order to balance the "Hope n' Change" side of my life with the rest of my time commitments, I have to pull the plug at some point and let the cartoon/commentary stand without further revisions - otherwise I'd handwring it to death. But I've got to admit, the "refrigerator" gag has become my favorite of the bunch.

I actually tried posting with a username, Stilt ;)

A while ago, I tried responding to one of your comics; I forget which. I tried to use my AIM screenname, and, for lack of a better description, my post got eaten. Since then, I've posted a few times using the Anonymous profile. I think, at the very least, I'll sign off on all my posts. I'll try a username again sometime in the future.

I also need to find the character limit. The post I made to today's (Monday September 19, 2011) comic was apparently too long because the site refused to publish it until I took out my first paragraph, kinda-sorta introducing myself. I thought it was several failed attempts to post with a username. Me thinks I was wrong, but I cannot verify it at this point in time.

Anyway, I see your 'lite' point, but I'm willing to rebuke it. Jimmy Hoffa has already said he's willing to be Obama's (and by extension the demoncrat's) personal commander to the Union army. As SEIU (?) thugs have already beaten a TEA Party supporter half to death, I see no difference in directive.

@pyroguy...
I think the German's got the punishment they deserved for their complacency. It's a dose of harsh reality, the perfect medicine to prove that freedom and religious (at least Judea-Christian) morality equals human rights.

The problem is that we learned from the horrors of nazism, but the demoncrats made sure our education system systematically eroded, distilled, and erased those harsh lessons.

The harsh reality may be harsh, but it is the absolute, unabashed truth.

Sincerely,
Dragon Against Evil

@Dragon Against Evil- Theoretically when you post, you can use the little "select profile" button to choose Name/Url and then put in whatever user name you'd like. But notice my sneaky use of the word "theoretically" in case it doesn't work. Anyway, I'm glad you're posting.

I'm not sure what the character limit is, but several readers have run up against it before. You can always split a post in two if you've got a lot to say (and clearly, you do!)

Regarding "Gestapo-Lite," I agree with you but I'm trying to be pleasant towards the president. Granted, I'm not trying very hard, but I'm trying.

Also, let me point out that the other commentor you addressed is "Pryorguy" and not "Pyroguy," which sounds a lot more like some sort of molotov-cocktail flinging anarchist (grin).
