The Whitehouse has cancelled the enormously popular squealer's hotline at Flag@Whitehouse.gov, presumably because so many conservatives turned themselves in, or pointed out that the "fishy" misinformation that disagrees with Obama's talking points has largely been coming from the Congressional Budget Office.

Why is it shut down ? Is it that they had collected enough "chain emails" and reports of "casual conversations" to go on? Or is it because of Camille Paglia's evisceration of the scheme:

The ethical collapse of the left was nowhere more evident than in the near total silence of liberal media and Web sites at the Obama administration's outrageous solicitation to private citizens to report unacceptable "casual conversations" to the White House.
If Republicans had done this, there would have been an angry explosion by Democrats from coast to coast.
I was stunned at the failure of liberals to see the blatant totalitarianism in this incident, which the president should have immediately denounced. His failure to do so implicates him in it.
I can easily imagine Robert Gibbs weeping inconsolably in a darkened White House press room after reading this.
Maybe now that the email address is inoperative he and Obama can suppress the memory and pretend the whole disgraceful episode never happened.
Philip, to date I haven't heard any explanation about why the Whitehouse shut down the program. I hadn't seen Camille Paglia's piece either, and I must say I love it. She's one of my favorite liberals; we disagree on a lot, but she's got a brain, a sense of humor, and real integrity.
ReplyDeleteAnd she makes a tremendous point here. Where was the media outrage at the government's frontal assault on freedom of speech (and unavoidably freedom of the press)? Even now, the media should be holding Gibbs' feet to the fire and demanding to know who came up with the plan, who read the emails, what information was collected, what information was stored, as it's illegal for the Whitehouse to destroy emails how can they claim the information was deleted or destroyed, what was the intent of getting these emails and addresses, what was actually done with this information, and on and on.
The email address has closed, but the story should remain open. Any outlet that doesn't pursue it is no friend of democracy.
Your illustrations are superb. Every time I read one I want to copy it and share it with my Conservative email list, but, alas...you make them so darned tiny they can hardly be read! Most everyone I'd send them to is a Senior Citizen with the eyesight that goes along with that.
ReplyDeleteMake the cartoons bigger if you want them to get shared.

Posey- I'm glad you brought this up! The way blogspot's software is set up, that's as big as the cartoons can be displayed on the main page, BUT if you click on the cartoon, it will show you the real size - which is big, screen-filling, and easy for seniors (like your own Stilton Jarlsberg) to read. And I'd be grateful to you or anyone else who would like to pass along the cartoons! This website isn't about making money - it's a labor of love (in this case, love of country) and the only goal is to share with as many others as possible.
ReplyDeleteAgain, just click on the cartoon once to see it at full-size (and this is the one to copy for friends)...then use your "page back" button or arrow to get back to the website itself.
This is a bit convoluted, I know, but I've not found another way of presenting the cartoons on blogspot, and I haven't had the time or resources to investigate other blogging software at this time.
Bottom line: don't squint at the cartoons, click on them...and revel in their IMAX grandeur!
