60 Is The New 30

Click Cartoon for Larger Size
Harry Reid has now found (and by "found," we mean bought, bribed, and threatened) the 60 Democratic senators necessary to pass his healthcare bill. To add insult to national injury, the vote is planned for Christmas Eve.

To say "thank you" to Santa for the gifts he brings, the traditional reward is cookies and milk. To say "thank you" to the Democrats for their Christmas Eve gift, we also recommend something traditional: tar and feathers.

(Legal disclaimer: Hope n' Change does not condone or encourage the application of tar and feathers to politicians no matter how badly they betray the voters, but makes the reference purely for satiric purposes. Ha ha ha ha! Pitchforks and torches, on the other hand, are still under review by our legal department.)

Even if such a vote happens in the Senate, a Senate-House conference committee will have to be appointed and convened. There, many of the battles that have so entangled the Senate will be revisited, as well as the multiple substantial differences between the respective Obamacare versions approved by the two chambers.

So there is no guarantee that a viable conference report will be produced. If that hurdle is overcome, the Senate and House will have to hold yet another vote on the conference report before the measure can be sent to the president for signature.

Oh, and don't forget that Obamacare isn't the only issue the Senate must address in coming days: The defense appropriation, Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and the debt ceiling increase must also be voted on before the Senate can adjourn for the holidays.

In other words, contrary to the whistling-in-the-dark Obamacrats and their enablers in the liberal media, there is nothing inevitable about Obamacare being approved by the Senate before Santa Claus hitches up his reindeer and takes off from the North Pole on his annual world tour.

  2. Philip- Encouraging words, but these are still scary days. It seems likely that the Dems will manage to pass something, and all they need is the "thin edge of the wedge" to do a lot of damage.

And even though there's other legislation to handle, it's funny how quickly it can be processed if the Dems don't read the bills, and don't care what's in them. Not hilarious, just "funny."

  4. Christmas Eve, good grief. What, are they holding senators hostage, saying "You don't get Christmas dinner with your family until you vote how I say?" And of course Obama doesn't care as long as he didn't miss Ramadan earlier in the year....

  5. Suzy- Christmas is so, you know, 2000 years ago. The really hip kids in Washington DC are all doing Kwanzaa now.

  8. “The American people will have the vote they deserve on genuine reform,” President Barack Obama said.

Yes... we all deserve what we're about to get. We voted the majorities into congress, now we pay as they "vote" in the next 24 hrs one of the worst pieces of legislation in U.S. history.

It's also up to us to correct this mistake this November: Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

  9. Philip- You make a great point. Obama isn't saying the American people are about to get what they want...he's saying they'll get what they deserve. And he's right - if a plurality of the people vote lying scoundrels into office hoping to get something for nothing, then they deserve a government of lying scoundrels.

But the rest of us sure as hell don't, and we've got to do everything we can to clean up this wretched mess.
