A Lean Piece With No Fatwa
Click Cartoon for Larger Size
The creators of "South Park," always happy to create controversy and celebrate free speech, used the occasion of their 201st episode to pose an interesting, and potentially dangerous, question.
Islam forbids the display of any picture of Mohammed...so those rapscallions at "South Park" showed someone inside (and completely concealed by) a bear costume. Was it supposed to be Mohammed? The show teases...but leaves it unclear.
Trey Parker and Matt Stone susequently received threats, not for showing a picture of Mohammed, but for creating a premise that invited people to imagine a picture of Mohammed.
In so doing, they not only bravely defended freedom of speech...they also revealed the agenda of those who would threaten freedom of thought.
Hope n' Change Hint: For those who don't quite "get" the tip of the hat to South Park's "now you see him, now you don't" strategy, try reading the last four words of today's cartoon aloud.
Stilton Jarlsberg
Islam is the new threat. More so than any other religion, Islam validates people in their over-emotional, anti-intellectual and backwards thinking all in the name of "Allah." And liberals, of course, bend over backwards to make sure precious Muslims aren't even offended in the slightest, but naturally when it comes to Christians, everything is fair game.
ReplyDeleteLove your site, and your insights!
ReplyDeleteI've posted a quote from this post under the "The Mighty Pen" cut-away on Bread upon the Waters.
Yeah I don't know why Muslims are treated like the endangered species they are NOT, especially since 9/11.
ReplyDeleteFreeze Peach! Freeze Peach!
ReplyDeletethis episode was amazing, i just couldnt believe the audio was cut at the end. does anyone here know if they have a version of the show posted somewhere with sound?
ReplyDeleteThis cartoon is brilliance!! Pure, unaduterated brilliance! More ham, ed....I love it!! Keep up hte good work!!
ReplyDeleteBTW, even though I am not a fan of the South Park Series, I totally support what they were trying to do.
dillon- Most South Park episodes are posted online, but according to the show's creators there is no version available which has the missing 35 second speech at the end.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous- South Park is an "equal opportunity offender." They sometimes ridicule things I believe in but, unlike most shows, they'll also rip a new a**hole in liberal foolishness, and willingly make hamburger out of sacred cows. Because that kind of courage is so rare, I think it needs to be applauded and supported.
It was a smart idea to protect Matt and Trey but i really would love to have heard what they were going to say. On the other hand, the fact our government is bending over backwards and even giving terrorists consitutional rights it makes me wonder what direction we are going in. it definitely sucks having the amount of liberal friends/obama lovers that i do, is just nerve wrecking.
ReplyDeleteA Previous Anonymous- I enjoyed the "Freeze Peach!" bit of linguistic camouflage, too!
ReplyDeleteYou know what we need in 2012....a black conservative like Alan Keyes or somebody...somebody tough enough to save the country from socialism but who can just cut out all the stupid racial trash coming from Washington. YES you can be black and conservative!!! (Sorry if this was a bit random!)
ReplyDeleteSuzy - How about a black conservative Female - you know, like Condi Rice, before W ate her heart, mind, and soul...
ReplyDeleteGot any like that in the wings?
Keyes, for reasons I don't understand, is dragging a 'Ron Paul' "nutjob" steamer trunk of baggage, and never gets ANY traction.
But expanding outreach to the "black community" NEEDS to be a priority of conservatives - it is vital to get the message out that 'dependency = slavery'... and Independence = Freedom.
