In response to the tremendous support voters across the nation have voiced for the Arizona immigration bill, and after the embarrassments of top administration officials refusing to either read or enforce the law, Barack Obama has now ordered 1200 National Guard troops to the U.S./Mexican border. And what happens next should be very interesting...

After all, the president has repeatedly said that any "visitors" backpacking across the desert shouldn't have to prove their citizenship. He's additionally made it clear that no one can be stopped based on the fact that they "look Mexican." And no part of the law can be enforced in such a way that there's even the "potential for abuse."

All of which makes us wonder...once the troops arrive at the border under Obama's direction, in which direction will they be pointing their guns?

UPDATE: The State Department has issued an official clarification that the 1200 National Guard troops will have nothing whatsoever to do with enforcement of immigration laws, and will do nothing to impede illegal aliens. Presumably, then, the troops are being put in place because the Mexican drug cartels are "tired of just shooting at tin cans" with their automatic weapons when crossing the border.

"Additionally, the Government of Mexico expects that National Guard personnel will strengthen US operations in the fight against transnational organized crime that operates on both sides of our common border and that it will not, in accordance to its legal obligations, conduct activities directly linked to the enforcement of immigration laws."

  2. I read where the troops will not be armed. If they are not how is that going help. Obama is going to get some of our troops killed. I thought one of the jobs of the president was to keep Americans safe, it has made no difference to Obama when that rancher was killed.

  3. BornLib- Wow, that's a helluva link. In it, the Mexican Embassy explains that the troops will be there to prevent the flow of "bulk money" and weapons into Mexico, while ignoring the "transnational organized crime" of illegal immigration.

Put another way, the president is sending 1200 troops to protect Mexico from us, while ensuring the comfort and safety of the illegal invaders.

  4. Not armed? That's terrible....it would be sad for our troops to have to die on American soil because of an inept President.

By the way, Stilt..."Mint chocolate chip?" Hmm.... I'm thinking....mango/guava swirl on a tortilla cone, or a papaya banana split? haha. The "On the Border Baskin Robbins" could make it pretty good....

  5. I heard, several times now, that they will be performing 'support roles' for border enforcement. Which, if what I am hearing is accurate, amounts to desk jobs... no need for a gun when you're pushing paper

This is, not unlike all decisive Obama actions, a smokescreen for something else...

  6. so the troops are being deployed to stop illegal drug flow into the country.

it's a good thing drug smugglers don't carry guns. that could get ugly.

they are going to stop them with harsh language.

as with anything else, watch what obama does, and not what he says.

  7. The link that BornLib posted had a link to the Mexican embassy. I sent them an e-mail asking how is is that, since Mexico enforces its own immigration policy, they think they can object to any other nation enforcing their own. Fat chance that I will get a good explanation back!s

What The Won(tm) has done is simply to raise an election year smoke screen, nothing at all more than that. They will be unarmed, they will not be deployed actually on the ground, but will most likely be desk jobs (support I think they call it). That will help soooooo.. much. But he can say, "see, there was a need, and I took (pointless) action." He is all about symbolism and never about substance (unless the substance is alcohol, drugs, or waygu beef).

  8. Trying to "connect some dots" here, but I wonder if this has anything to do with it?

    http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/05/26/terror-alert-mexican-border/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+foxnews%2Flatest+%28Text+-+Latest+Headlines%29

"The Department of Homeland Security is alerting Texas authorities to be on the lookout for a suspected member of the Somalia-based Al Shabaab terrorist group who might be attempting to travel to the U.S. through Mexico, a security expert who has seen the memo tells FOXNews.com.

The warning follows an indictment unsealed this month in Texas federal court that accuses a Somali man in Texas of running a “large-scale smuggling enterprise” responsible for bringing hundreds of Somalis from Brazil through South America and eventually across the Mexican border. Many of the illegal immigrants, who court records say were given fake IDs, are alleged to have ties to other now-defunct Somalian terror organizations that have merged with active organizations like Al Shabaab, al-Barakat and Al-Ittihad Al-Islami."

"In addition to the Somali immigration issue, Mexican smugglers are coaching some Middle Eastern immigrants before they cross the border – schooling them on how to dress and giving them phrases to help them look and sound like Latinos, law enforcement sources told FoxNews.com.

“There have been a number of certain communities that have noticed this, villages in northern Mexico where Middle Easterners try to move into town and learn Spanish,” Neuhaus Schaan said. “People were changing there names from Middle Eastern names to Hispanic names.”
Security experts say the push by illegal immigrants to try to fit in also could be the realization of what officials have feared for years: Latin American drug cartels are helping jihadist groups bring terrorists across the Mexican border."

Remember, the pants bomber attempt was during the Christmas Holiday. I imagine Obama knows it wouldn't look good for him to be chillin with his homies at the BBQ on Memorial Day while these terrorists cross the border. So, he's doing something proactive to "plug the damn hole". And I'm not talking about Michelle, although maybe that could be part of the holiday plans, which I don't want to hear about - as the kids say, that would be "TMI".
Hope that isn't offensive - I just can't stomach the way he talks.

  9. alan markus- Good catch, and hugely important. When the government refuses to police the border, they don't know who the hell is coming in. And if it's only 1 terrorist per 1000 honest, upstanding Mexican gardeners, what's the worst that could happen? And the answer is, of course, unimaginable death, suffering, and nationwide terror attacks.

And as is always the case with the Obama administration, there are no unintended consequences. If Middle Eastern terrorists find that our southern border is easy to cross, it is because Obama and the Dems want it that way.

  10. Is it true what I heard, that The One (TM) will NOT pay respects this year at Memorial Day services? I work a job punching a register, and with the One's economy it's all I can get so far even though I have a BA (Journalism). I thank the WW2, Korean War and Vietnam vets when they come in (I see them wearing hats usually) but there is no way I can thank The One for all he's done for us (sarcasm). Thanks for your service one and all!

  11. Obama hates America. There's really no other way around it. Actions speak louder than words.

And yes I did hear that he plans to skip the Memorial Day services at Arlington...will be on vacation. (How convenient.)

  12. Eric M,

Check my post on the earlier Toon, "High Five" The Non-Commander in Chief is in fact vacationing instead of taking the time to honor our war dead and veterans this weekend. He WILL manage to do a fly-in to honor Paul McCartney at the Kennedy Center in DC, and will also find the time to fly out to California to speak at a fundraiser for Barbara Boxer, but will not be able to spare the time to visit Arlington to place the Presidential Wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. (Sending Joe Hairplugs Biden the Plagiarist phony instead.)The one time each year that the CinC could make a gesture of recognition that something is owed to the memory of those who served, as he has not, and died honorably, as he will likely not. What a great man, to take this once a year solemn event and toss it aside to go grill some $100.00 a pound taxpayer funded Kobi steaks and kick back with the family. Guess he was raised in the belief Memorial Day is all about stuffing your face and going to the department store sales. Typical worthless-POS behavior we've come to expect from this weasel. I hope there are some Veterans amongst the wait staff at his little Grillin' and Chillin' event who take a moment to spit in his food. what a lowlife weaseling creep. On behalf of Veterans everywhere, and active duty military as well, just like to say "Semper Fi, Hoorah and Effyou, little "o"." Your every move shows us what you are, and you are nothing.

(Not that I don't just love the guy, of course, of course, the miserable snit-weasel that he is)

  14. RE: Memorial Day

Just to make sure that we aren't applying a double standard here, I have to point out that Bush 41 never went to Arlington on Memorial Day while he was President.

Bush 43 made up for it somewhat, going to Arlington for seven Memorial Days as President, and was in Normandy for Memorial Day 2002, which I think is a perfectly acceptable substitute.

I like to give Obama guff, but my understanding is that he will be visiting Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, which I understand is also a military cemetery, on this Memorial Day. Maybe not ideal, but hardly unprecedented and I think it is a stretch to call it inappropriate.

I do have to wonder if they will have to sense to keep Biden from actually speaking at Arlington.

  15. Thank God this weekend for our freedoms bought for us with my dad's generation on the field of battle. Pray and expect things to turn around for the better eventually. What is going on now is really unbelievable from an American president. LIke I have said before though, Obama is the man for our culture at this time. I just hope all who voted him in are happy with themselves. Happy Safe Holiday everyone!

  16. BornLib (& Others)- Yes, we were prepared to give Obama crap about not visiting Arlington on Memorial Day...but fairness requires us to note that other presidents have skipped attendance, and that Obama is at least visiting a cemetery in Illinois while the ribs are grillin'.

All of that being said, it's clear that Obama puts a higher priority on everything from cookouts to concerts than to honoring those who have served and fallen in the name of this country. This isn't a scheduling error...it was his choice. We should all take that for what it's worth.

  17. BornLib, Stilton, et al,

Don't care if Dubyah's daddy, a generally decent guy but sometimes as clueless as his son, skipped out on what all Veterans regard as the most significant of official duty occasions. Dubyah was at least decent enough to observe the proprieties, while the current CinC, as we've all observed, places his own selfish whims way ahead of duty, honor, and country, and is stunningly consistent in doing it. As to "fairness" and being reasonable, and etc., imagine the upheaval if Dubyah had shown this kind of disrespect, on any of the 8 Memorial days when he did in fact do the right thing? Anybody notice we have our people deployed in Two Wars right now, and with Hillary acting as peacemaker, we'll likely crank up #3 pretty soon? This is not the time to pee in the military's mess kit, and going to a local military cemetary as a matter of convenience does NOT cut it with anyone who's served or is presently deployed. Little "o" has his buddy John Kerry's view of the military, that everyone deployed got there because they were too stupid and ignorant to get a real job. In all fairness, I still say to him "Semper Fi, Hoorah, and Effyou very much Mr. candy assed community organizer punk. No offense to the "Fair Play for the Socialist Committee" Combat lesson learned ages ago: Treat your enemy fairly, and he will unfairly kill you. Real life is not fair. Look who wound up being President.
This blog needs those little smiley face emoticon thingeys. I have a favorite one that's animated, waves, then turns and drops his pants. Maybe the word picture will do for now?

  18. Call me cynical. A vacation in Illinois and a trip to the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. What a lucky coincidence for a president who uses his bully pulpit to sow rhetorical seeds for Civil War II.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Liked this so much on the other thread, thought I'd reprise it here:

Not to go too far off subject, but how much more damage will be done to the country as a whole and to our military morale in particular as the news circulates that this worthless nitwit has decided to go on vacation to Chicago this weekend intead of taking a few hours to honor our dead with the traditional, Presidential placing of the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington, which is about a 10 minute trip from the White House, even without the motorcade and police escort provided. Sending Biden instead. Too Busy.... not too busy to fly to Cali for a Barbara Boxer fundraiser and to attend a Kennedy Center fete for Paul McCartney back in DC during the "vacation", just too busy to take time to honor our sacred dead.

Guess to him the holiday really is about barbecue and sales on cars and clothes. As a 70's era veteran myself (yep, really THAT old)I am almost not able to put in words the level of contempt I now have for the current "Commander in Chief" for preferring fundraising and a party for an aging rock star over doing the one service on the one day that matters most to all who have worn the uniform of the US Military, living and dead.

I'm sure the military pilots running Marine One and Air Force One all over the country on the "more important errands" booked for this weekend are looking forward to dealing with this arrogant, uncaring, anti-American chunk of dreck.

Hope the cook whose holiday he's going to ruin is also a vet, and will at least have the good sense and requisite sand to spit in the fella's food on behalf of all who have served.

Not to mention the insult to the National Guard troops beng deployed on this coming weekend to the Arizona border to help the border patrol. Never mattered before, but suddenly the Guard is needed on THIS weekend?

Oh, and about the oil spill? Think James Carville had a point calling him to task for never contacting the families of the drillers that died on that rig? Too busy. Busy fingerpointing in all directions. Busy attacking everyone else involved, while putting NOTHING in motion that might help the situation. Busy talking about assembling teams of "experts" with no oil field experience to think about solutions for another month, when the ex-president of Shell Oil is telling the world this blowout is similar to one that happened in Saudi Arabia years ago. That one was never a problem, and never even got reported because they immediately brought in a few supertankers and pumped the oil/water mix off the surface for separation on shore while the well was being worked on. No environmental issues, they filtered the water and pumped it back into the sea, and saved all the oil besides.

This president is a pathetic little weasel looking always for self aggrandisement, blame shifting, and any escape to avoid doing what should be done.

Skipping Arlington on Memorial Day. Nobody, no REAL President, No REAL Commander in Chief, could possibly treat his troops this way, or suck this much. Lowlife @#$%^&*(_+)***^%^$%$#

Words just fail me. My Keyboard melts from the angry acid leaking from my fingertips. I'd like to go to the Chicago Memorial Day Eff the Troops Barbecue and moon the sob.

Apologies to all who feel the repetition is a waste of bandwidth. I'm practicing to become a self aggrandising glory grabbing blame shifting weasel like little "o" so I can become President of something someday.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Front Woodsman- Hey, your posts are never a waste of bandwidth. And despite my previous attempt at "fairness," you'll note that I was also criticizing Obama for the decision he made not to go to Arlington.

But you know what? You make a damn good point about trying to be "too fair" when the enemy isn't fair at all.

So allow me to make a somewhat more direct statement that it seems Obama is giving the presidential finger to every man and woman who has ever served or loved this country.

The only upside to his not attending services at Arlington is that his presence would be an insult to our hallowed dead.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Front Woodsman,

Excellent points all around. Obama has made it abundantly clear that he isn't anti-war, but in fact anti-military and anti-soldier.

Okay, honestly curious here FW; I've never served so I'm trying to understand your perspective. If Obama had gone to Arlington this year, it would obviously just be for show, an attempt to cover his actions with pretty symbolism. Do I understand correctly or incorrectly that despite this, the act would have had real value as a public demonstration of respect by the President for those that served, past and present, in the US military, and that Obama's transgression here (relative to his overall track record) was in denying the troops the support and respect they deserve?

Put a different way, what good is it that Obama, hypocrite that he is, would have accomplished by going to Arlington? Is it that, as the 'leader' of our nation, his appearance would have communicated to the American people a need for us to unify behind our troops, regardless of his political attempts to undermine them?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Well I'll say this. The 1500 national guard Obama put on the border to observe should have been 1500 snipers with orders to fire at will and take as many as you can. If you need air support, call us and we'll call in Puff The Magic Dragon, CBU-24's and if needed MOAD all along the entire border until this issue is cleared up leaving only buzard bate for the picking. End of border issues from now on....
