Broken Shutoff

One thing you've got to say about Barack Obama is that he is remarkably consistent. When it comes to issues that few people even think are issues, he treats them with such breathless urgency that he demands Congress vote on bills without even reading them...such as healthcare, climate change, and financial regulation.
Yet if there's an issue that everyone agrees is an emergency, the president is slow to react - if he reacts at all. Oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico? No rush! Record unemployment? It's number 53 on his "to do" list. Millions of illegal immigrants causing economic hardship to the states? He'll get around to it when there's an appetite. Iranian nukes? Hey, what's the worst that could happen?
It seems that "urgency" is determined solely by whether or not it's something Obama wants to do. If it's something that needs to be done, well, there will be other presidents who can do the grunt work someday.
We hope.

Yep, you've hit the nail on the head. He really thinks that because he won the election that he has the moral license to do whatever the heck he feels like until 2012. Everyone made fun of President Bush for claiming he had "political capital" he could spend after he got re-elected, yet President Obama acts as though he has unlimited political capital.
ReplyDeleteI suppose in a way this is true, as he seems to be borrowing political capital from the democrats in congress, which I guess explains how he can piss it away so eagerly.
It's pretty clear that Obama only jumps to act when it is something that can benefit him, or his cronies from either a financial or a power perspective. The average American doesn't really factor into his plans at all... unless they can be used as pawns, willing or otherwise, to fulfill his own personal agenda.
ReplyDeleteNeed something done and face stiff opposition? No problem, just demonize the 'other side' as one of the following: racist, extremists, hate mongers, 'rich'.. really anything that casts a poor light on them. That is, of course, after you try and garner sympathy by playing the 'fault' card... "I inherited..", "The last 8 years..", or, my favorite "I'm don't mind cleaning up other people's mess..."
What a maroon...
Great cartoon and comments from others. All you guys have nailed it. He's a community organizer with WAY too much power.
ReplyDeleteI have been shocked at how LITTLE has been done (and said) for the oil spill...and further shocked that the complaints are slow. If it were Bush, he would be nailed to the wall over this, no matter whose fault and no matter how fast the relief effort. He would have also been crucified for the rancher death in Arizona which has instead been virtually ignored. This government is appalling.
ReplyDeleteSuzy .... while the government IS appalling the real source of your stated frustrations would be the largely complicit media establishment
ReplyDeleteIt's only news if they deem it so .. and they won't if it doesn't fit their narrative .. at least not until there is enough pressure on them to lift a finger
In today's world the new definition of 'news' is propaganda and any real news is 'hate speech' or 'seditious'
Readers- Great discussion! And you're absolutely right about the sick symbiosis between Obama and the liberal mainstream media. Obama is free to pursue his agenda, and only his agenda, because the media supports him instead of demanding even minimal accountability.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous- Obama first spoke about the Christmas Eve bomber on December 28. But at that time, Abdulmutallab was referred to only as a "suspect" in an "alleged" bombing attempt (no doubt because of the "alleged" smoldering bomb in his "alleged" underpants). Regarding Fort Hood, Senator Joe Lieberman is even now trying to find out why the official report on the shootings didn't mention terror or Islamic fanaticism. It seems we haven't come very far from the president's first admonition that we shouldn't "jump to conclusions" about the shooter just because he was an angry Muslim who had been speaking out with increasing fervor about the glories of jihad.
ReplyDeleteOur fear is that the Times Square bomber may turn out to be a McVeigh-style nutjob, and that this administration is eager to finally dust off the term "terrorist" again because they can make political hay out of it.
Right, we shouldn't jump to conclusions..
ReplyDeleteFrom the archives, WAAAAAAAAAAY back in July 2009:
"Now, I don't know, not having been there and not seeing all the facts what role race played in that, but I think it's fair to say, number one, any of us would be pretty angry. Number two, that the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home and, number three, what I think we know separate and apart from this incident is that there is a long history in this country of African-Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately. And that's just a fact."
So.. he openly admits to not having all the facts, tries to relate his pending opinion to that which anyone in the same position would have, and then proceeds to level judgement...
Said it before.. I'll say it again .. what a maroon
You are right its a huge media problem...
ReplyDeleteOh and so now they are looking into sabotage for the oil spill...but Obama blamed BP....so the white guy is automatically a terrorist but the BP spill is of course "big oil"'s problem....And of course Obama knows everything without actually investigating it first....
Sheesh.
Anonymous, you got it right!@!!!!!! He is a 'community organizer' with wayyy too much power and the ego to prove it! btw, if you havent, google 'saul alinsky' and read up on obama's model for life, and also alinsky is the same guy that hillary wrote about in college as a driving force in the way she thinks. Yes, this nation could be in big trouble, pray for it.
ReplyDeleteWith respect to the media and the oil spill, even Bill Maher (lefty jackass that he is) asked "So, why isn't Barack Obama getting more shit for this? I think he should."
ReplyDeleteOf course two days later he reminded us why nobody listens to him when he claimed "Brazil got off oil in the last 30 years" saying "I believe they in the '70s, they had a program to use sugar cane ethanol. And I believe that is what fuels their country." That, and 2.372 million barrels of oil a day, making Brazil the eighth largest consumer of oil in the world.
