Truth in Labeling

A recent survey found that 55% of likely voters said the term "Socialist" described Barack Obama "well" or "very well."

For the 45% of survey respondents who apparently aren't paying close attention, a Socialist is defined as
"one who advocates or practices various economic and political theories advocating collective or govenmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods."

Governmental ownership and administration of the "means of production" would be something like, oh, taking over General Motors, the banking industry, and perhaps declaring a moratorium on oil production.

And governmental "distribution of goods" would be something like taking money away from one group to give it to another group in the form of "stimulus checks," "extended unemployment benefits," "mortgage assistance," and good old fashioned "government paid healthcare."

It doesn't matter what semantics the president uses to try to disguise his Socialist agenda. As Shakespeare said, "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet."

Or in this case, stink to high heaven.

  1. Amen.

But while on the subject, the RNC could use the truth and labeling laws to great advantage as well. As I went off about in my blog last November, there are those who would call themselves Republican, hoping to enjoy the label "conservative", who aren't even centrists, let alone right-of-center! Reviewing my local primary, there are loads of people now running for each position under the Republican banner. Why? For some, they are at least more conservative than the current batch of libs, see the danger, and want to step in to fend it off. Bravo, Godspeed. For others, I fear, they simply see the label "Democrat" as dangerous to their political goals, so they'll wear the shirt, so to speak, to ride the tide into office where they can. As people like Olympia Snowe did. As Joseph Caos did. A strategy made obvious by Arlan Specter's recent now-you-see-me; now-you-don't performance.

Beware at the polls this year, my friends. This is a good year to do a downtown job of RESEARCHING your candidates before pulling the lever, punching the chad, or marking the box. Make sure truth in advertising is being followed with the declared party alliance. For all but the most recent entries into politics, there is a backtrail. Sniff it out and be sure of who you are voting for...

  2. And don't trust the MSM to do your homework. Example: Where's the Black Panther story?

  3. Emmentaler- We couldn't agree more. It's important to know what a candidate has actually done instead of what they're promising. Which is why - no matter what the rhetoric - we think it's a mistake to elect someone like Obama who has no track record (and what record there is has been carefully obscured).

Anonymous- Amen. The MSM are demonstrably worse than useless. They didn't touch the Black Panther story, but we'll bet they all cover the NAACP's unwarranted accusation of Tea Party racism.

  4. And Mel Gibson ad nauseum.

  5. And the MSM would just LOVE to tie Mel Gibson to the Tea Party Movement right about now.....

  6. Mel's career is over! He did something unforgivable! He cursed out a family member on record-

Wait Alex Baldwin did that too and still won an Emmy...

Well Mel beat his wife and-

Wait Steven Segal and Jean Claude Van Dam did that too and their careers slowed only because of limited talent not woman beating...

    Wait, Mel abused alcohol-

Nope. Charlie Sheen did all 3 and is as marketable as ever.

At least Mel didn't rape his wife. Then he would have been forgiven since it's not "rape rape" and been nominated for another Oscar.

    MSM needs some consistency...
    or it becomes conspiracy.

  7. Hey, how about that report from the commission Obama created to analyze the economy? Obama probly filled his britches when he heard that one! or maybe he just had some champagne.

    Personally i filled my britches

  8. AngieComics- Great rundown of the liberals who've gotten away with seemingly everything! Of course, if none of the things you've suggested gets Mel off the hook, perhaps Bill Clinton can suggest that Mel's "indiscretions" were only intended to get votes (ala Senator Byrd).

pryorguy- "Britches filling" was and is the appropriate response.
