The Hole Truth

Leave it to mouth-foaming, leg-tingling Chris Matthews to find a way to turn the "feel good" news story of the year into an anti-conservative tirade.

Watching the near-miraculous rescue of the Chilean miners who had been trapped underground for 69 days, Matthews suddenly declared that if they had followed the Tea Party's "every man for himself" philosophy, they wouldn't have gotten out alive...and then trumped himself by declaring that the miners "would have been killing each other after about two days."

Matthews arrived at this pithy observation based on his assessment that the Tea Party's belief system is "No more taxes, no more government, no more everything. No more safety net. No more health care for everybody. Everybody just get out there, make your buck, save it, screw the government, move on."

He forgot to mention "Kill and eat the weak," which apparently turns up regularly on Tea Partier's signs in Mr. Matthews feverish hallucinations.

But the truth is that the Chilean rescue actually has much more in common with the Tea Party's principles than those of the liberals. Far beneath the surface of the Earth, the miners were given jobs and schedules...because they knew that idleness would lead to lack of strength and hope. They additionally drew resolve from faith and family...which aren't exactly liberal party platforms.

And as Daniel Henninger brilliantly points out in the Wall Street Journal, it was quite literally capitalism which saved the miners, owing to technologies that were developed not by governments or unions...but by private companies which were seeking profits (gasp!) through innovation.

Hope n' Change is grateful for the safe return of the Chilean miners. And we must admit that we're enjoying seeing liberals like Matthews dig themselves into a much deeper hole than ever held those brave men for 69 days.

  1. Chris M. used to be a fair reporter...now he is nothing more than a Team Obama hack. If he were to have a solid, good, original, independent thought, it would probably die of loneliness.

His recent statement shows just how shallow the gene pool really is in his family. A joyous, uplifting conclusion to a tragedy and he attempts to use it for his own stupidity. But, we all know that these Progressives are just angry, frustrated, lonely people who would rather put their noses up the ruling elites butt than stand as men and think for themselves.

  2. I think they ("progressives") are suffering from projection / rejection - They had it ALL, the brass ring, power to do ANYTHING, and flubbed it. Most of what they wanted couldn't get off the ground, and when the public at large SAW what they wanted, they dropped support like a rotten tomato. Granted, not EVERY one - there's still a lot of support out there for the parasite supporting economic theories - mostly by the parasites, I suspect. But those of us who work for a living, and expect to enjoy the fruits of our labors are becoming resentful of the parasites, and less tolerant of those who promote them.
    Too Bad!

  3. The infection that started as a tingle in his leg has clearly advanced up his spine and now has fully infected his brain. You're right Pete; I find it difficult to imagine the level of rejection that some of these people must feel. But for others like Matthews, it's as though they've transcended their "willing suspension of disbelief" and have moved right on into full-blown dementia.

Perhaps it's because as an "old media" type of guy and doesn't realize that it's not 1982 anymore; when the progressives controlled all of the major news outlets and SOP was to simply amp up the message to drown out anything out there to the contrary. It's not going to work this time.

  4. On the other hand, if the miners needed rescue by the government backed by Mr. Matthews they'd still be down there waiting for the impact studies on further drilling to be completed.

  5. It *is* nice that due to the drilling embargo in this country (thank YOU Mr. President) that the rig was available to rescue the miners in THAT country..

  6. Matthews is bass-ackwards. What we saw from the miners represents the same rock-solid values shared by tea partiers: pride in hard work, willingness to sacrifice for others, love of family, patriotism, and spirituality. It reminds me of the people riding out Hurricane Katrina in the Super Dome. Somehow, I just don't see them able to organize as groups to share a few sips of milk a day and two spoons of tuna every other day. Or cleaning up their messes. (Granted, this may be an unfair analogy since I wasn't there, and some of the more horrific stories of what happened in the Dome were later proven untrue.) But I'm fairly sure this group did not have the resources to pull together like the miners did. And we all know the reasons why.

  7. If Matthews was down in the hole he would have climbed over eveyone to be the first out. Only problem is his fat ass would have clogged the tube like a huge turd and nothing but hot air and stench would have made it to the top.

God bless the miners and the men and women who rescued them. It was refreshing to see the Chilean president on scene and not demanding all the cameras be focused on him.

  8. Wow Bobo...loved that first part especially...laughed my butt off! Youre right about their President, was very impressed!

I agree with all you guys, and only hope that what goes round comes back around to this bunch of self-centered, self-serving egomaniacs who have totally fallen in this unchristian-like attitude that has overtaken this country (as always happens when a society turns its back on God, and common sense just goes out the window).

The 'progs' are gonna see a congress-cleanin in a couple weeks! Obama's getting his veto hand limbered up for sure! thats all he will have left! But the lame ducks will try to do some damage for sure.

  9. Matthews proves that when a liberal/progressive is bound and determined to beclown himself it's best to just get out of the way and watch the show. They are good for little else, but they do sometimes provide unintentional humor.
