Radio Activity
The FCC has announced plans to test a new addition to the "Emergency Alert System" in which the president will be able to interrupt all communications and speak to the American public directly in the event of a national emergency which doesn't occur during a vacation, round of golf, or pickup game of basketball.
Of course, this begs the question of exactly what kind of live message we could expect to hear from the alleged president if the feces hits the fan. If a nuke takes out an American city or two, will Mr. Obama hurriedly remind us not to "jump to conclusions" about who to blame? If passenger jets are again used as suicide weapons, will the president seize the airwaves to assure us that "we can absorb a terrorist attack" and that 9/11 made us "stronger" (as well as opening up cheap real estate for Islamic community centers)?
Of course, under extreme pressure it might not really be a great idea to give Mr. Teleprompter a live microphone for unscripted comments. America will not take much comfort from the president's assurance that "all 57 states are safe," jokes about bowling and the Special Olympics, accusations that the Cambridge Police may have again acted stupidly, his confusion about the pronunciation of the words "corps" and "corpse," or a lofty and long-winded lecture on the virtues of quick and abject surrender.
In all seriousness (perhaps even dead seriousness), it's frightening to think that in the event of a truly catastrophic national emergency, systems are being put into place to kill Americans' access to Internet news sources...but make sure that we can instantly get the president's version of events.
Because the only thing we can imagine that would make such a catastrophic day worse is Barack Hussein Obama's assurance that he's in complete control.

Gimme Alex Haig anyday.
It's like the country is moving to royalty without the ermine. Or dictatorship with a patina of democracy. I'm not sure which.
It's like an update of CONELRAD, and that was the beginning of the socialization/feminizing of America!
A week (or two?) ago, when Egypt threw the switch and took the country 'off line' people were appalled - 'that can never happen here!'
And yet, here they are, planning to do JUST exactly THAT!!!
I also find it amusing that the Prez suggested to the US Chamber of Commerce yesterday that his plan to 'freeze' spending will 'save' $450B 'over 10 years' - yo, jackass - the CURRENT budget is $1.4T in the hole!!! We need 2x the $450B **this** year!!! At LEAST!!!
What a clueless a$$hat...
Scary. I still can't believe that Clinton did much less for which to begin impeachment proceedings.....
Considering how dictatorial regimes across the globe are shutting down internet sites for a whole host of reasons, the timing of this "test" is exquisite. Liberals should be howling.
Pete:
As I understand Democrat budgeting, a "savings" is that amount of money you intended to spend, even though you don't have it, that you later decide not to spend. If my family income is 45K per year and I plan to buy a car that cost $150,000.00 but then change my mind and buy a car that cost $100,000.00 I just saved my family $50,000 dollars. It's as simple (and stupid) as that. As with all things Democrat, it's all about the intentions, not the results.
Hoosier - All agreed
MY point is that if the family income is $50k, and I'm spending $150 in strip clubs, cutting it back to $149,600 is pretty frikkin' trivial
I mean, that's like beer money
For Mom
Who doesn't drink.
Even if the $450B 'saved' was all in one year, (not spread over 10) it would not be 1/2 enough.
Anonymous- I'm not against Conelrad or Emergency Alert Systems...I'm against hearing from Barack Obama. And I know your post was intended as sarcasm, but it sort of made me chuckle.
Angry Hoosier Dad- You've figured out the "savings" game exactly. Want to "save" a trillion dollars? Then pass a new two trillion dollar expenditure bill, and then cut it by one half. Families who figure their personal expenses this way go broke. Businesses that do it go to jail. But politicians...?
Pete(Detroit)- Spending $150,000 on strip clubs sounds tacky. You should at least say you're spending it on NEA (Naturally Endowed for the Arts) grants.
There's a lot of women who have that philosophy. Haha. You know..."Honey I just went to the mall....I spent $250 but I SAVED $500 by buying it all!!!!" hahaha.
Will you PLEASE give the "57 states" thing a rest?
He did not say that there were 57 states! Get over it.
He said he had BEEN to 57, had one more to go to and was not allowed to go to Alaska or Hawaii.
A far more interesting question that nobody has the necessaries to touch (maybe a job for TSA?) is "WHY NOT Alaska? WHY NOT Hawaii? And "not allowed" By whom?
Sorry, should be '$150K in strip clubs'... (obviously)
Agreed, Stilt, it sounds tacky, but that's as close as I could conceive as wasting it on the pimps and ho's of O's political kickback groupies. Maybe if I had implied it was 'entertainment expenses' and I was governer, say, of New York....
Larry, in this clip he says he wanted to go (to Alaska and Hawaii - one state?) but his "staff wouldn't (or couldn't, audio is unclear) justify it."
Yes, he's tired, and off prompter, AND rambling a bit, but isn't "the lower 48" or 'the mainland 48' ingrained into EVERYONE growing up?
Just sayin'...

Larry Sheldon- We stand corrected. In the event of an emergency, Obama should assure us that the 57 states he's actually been to are secure, and he hopes to check on Alaskawaii as soon as possible.
Pete(Detroit)- Actually I thought your strip club metaphor was right on target: every dollar gets spent on stimulus, but nothing actually gets accomplished.
Stilt - except we get stiffed...
ba-dum, CHING
Maybe I missed something here?? Hasn't the Pres. ALWAYS been able to interrupt broadcasts since that have been broadcasts? I could swear that I saw "W" on the TV telling us about the World Trade Center attack on 9-11. At least it was a guy who looked a lot like "W". And, I distinctly remember John Kennedy on TV telling us about Cuba's missles.
At any rate, judging by what the Fiberals in Congress have done for the past few years, I can't wait for the first time a show that I have been wanting to watch being interrupted by BO telling me about his latest emergency. "I am afraid that I must tell the American public about this latest threat to our freedom. McDonalds is serving fat laden FRENCH FRIES to our CHILDREN! They must be stopped at all costs!"
Geez, I miss having a President with PRIORITIES based on OUR needs, like, well..... "W" for example. I hope BO doesn't run out of cheeseburgers and Yuengling, or THAT will be on TV.
Its another attack on free speech. Take away the newspapers, microphones, internet, radio and tv. Take away the devices and means that allow Americans the ability to express how they feel about their government and what do you have? A sheep ranch run by the government with wolves acting as herding dogs to keep everyone in line. And, if the wolves don't get you, wait until its your turn to be sheared. That's how its done in countries where freedoms have been lost. It took one small drip of water at a time to create what is now the Grand Canyon. (metaphorically speaking)
Readers- The president has always had the ability to address the people on all media, but not "live" through the Emergency Broadcast System. It's actually a fine idea, except for the unavoidable fact that there are some presidents I just don't want to hear from under any circumstances.
It's all about that "trust" factor ya know.
Rest assured....in the event of some emergency at that level, Obama and his buddies WILL NOT "let a good crisis go to waste!"
Robert - did you get to be the 350th Hn'C follower?
Suzy, "I still can't believe that Clinton did much less for which to begin impeachment proceedings..." We still had enough members of Congress who remembered what it means to be American back then.
Jim Hlavac, "It's like the country is moving to royalty without the ermine. Or dictatorship with a patina of democracy. I'm not sure which..." Sadly it's more like 'American Idol' with even less real talent being worshiped by self centered children.
Angry Hoosier Dad, "As with all things Democrat, it's all about the intentions, not the results...." Our end, justifies their means.
Colby Muenster, "I miss having a President..." period.
Bobo, "Take away the devices and means that allow Americans the ability to express how they feel about their government..." and you have a recipe for Totalitarianism.
Earl, "Considering how dictatorial regimes across the globe are shutting down internet sites for a whole host of reasons, the timing of this "test" is exquisite. Liberals should be howling..." But they won't be howling because A) They foolishly think they'll be exempt from the censorship purges & B)They're still completely enthralled by the dude, playing a dude, disguised as another dude. [to paraphrase Robert Downey Jr.'s character from 'Tropic Thunder']
What's funny IMHO is how all the libtards I know were so afraid GWB was going to stage a 'Martial Law' situation prior to the last election that would allow him to stay in power indefinitely... and now after Obongo has been laying the ground work for just such a coup for the past two years, they are curiously silent on the subject.
Necron 99 - "Curiously silent." I liked that. And you're right.
Yes Earl... It proves my own personal theory about the libtard/dumbocrat/entitlement/socialist/communist/marxist/prog/slave mentality...
Simply put; They are like spoiled children railing against the adults who represent wisdom, experience, discipline, self-sacrifice, personal accountability, ethics, & morality. They have no real concept of the realities of life and have never had to earn anything because it's always been handed to them. And like spoiled children they are willing to trade their futures & freedoms for any pie-in-the-sky instant gratification offered. They may cloak their rhetoric in platitudes of tolerance, peace, understanding, bi-partisanship, or any other catchy jingoistic language, but their actions and intentions betray them. Like the spoiled children they are, they want it their way, or no way at all... and if Daddy says, "No", they'll throw a fit, hold their breath, and roll on the floor until Mommy says, "Yes".
Sadly, Mommy and Daddy have said "Yes" too many times. I was so hoping that the Senate would slap Slick Willie down back in '99, just to show the country that there ARE limits to the Presidency, but they didn't. What's it going to take to even impeach a president now, let alone convict?
Slick Willie... The epitome of the morally & ethically bankrupt generation of the 1960's... the generation who's only inner code or philosophy is to do whatever seems most advantageous for themselves... The same generation that schooled and trained fools like Obongo.
Define the word "is"... WTF
