Party Lines
On Monday, the alleged Barack Hussein Obama officially announced that he's kicking off his reelection campaign for 2012 by asking volunteers to help raise one billion dollars with which he can run ads about his fiscal responsibility and the glorious new era of bipartisanship that he brought to Washington.
Then on Tuesday, Candidate Obama followed up by refusing to negotiate needed budget cuts with Republicans and prepared to shut down the government by Friday because (oops!) the supermajority of Democrats didn't bother to create an operating budget for 2011 when they were in charge.
The possible shutdown of the federal government, which is largely and accurately seen as a crass and sleazy Democrat ploy to make "extremist" cost-cutting Republicans look bad, has been greeted by the American people with a wide gamut of emotions ranging from elation to giddy elation.
And why not? At a time when our country faces crippling and job-killing debt, Barack Obama and the Democrats continue playing financial games with our nation's future. For instance, they claim they're willing to okay $73 billion in budget cuts...but $40 billion of "cuts" are from programs which have never even been passed and so, technically, don't even exist. And as John Boehner points out, the other $33 billion in "cuts" the Democrats want to take credit for haven't been officially offered and, even if they were, amount to "smoke and mirrors" rather than actual cuts.
So we say let the government shut down for awhile. Let the Democrats take a long, deep breath and think about what they're trying to do to America...and let Barack Obama consider how his reelection bid will be affected by his unwillingness or inability to show fiscal responsibility when our country needs it most.
And eventually, when those on the Left are feeling like grown-ups again, they can go back to work.
Paul Ryan will have everything ready and waiting for them.

hee hee... Ol' «Louis» has been busy e-mailing the CongressCritters telling them to "Cut it or Shut it". Given that «Louis'» CongressCritter is the execrable Barbara Lee, you can rest assured that his suggestion is about as welcome as the discovery of une crotte in a punchbowl...
ReplyDeleteLouis, I'll see your Barbara Lee, and raise you John Conyers. Add to that the Lovely Senators Levin and Stabinow and us folks in Detroit are just scrod...
ReplyDeleteYes, PLEASE shut it the hell down...
Unfortunately if/when the gov't does shut down, the media will be sure to blame Republicans so that all the ignorant out there will believe that Obama, once again, is a victim-of-color.
ReplyDeleteSuzy, of course you're right. The press will try to pin it on Conservatives. I'm not sure it will work though. I sense a real desperation on the part of the neo-comms. They know that they were supposed to pass a budget last October as they were Constitutionally obligated to do and they pissed it away knowing they were going to lose in Nov. and were hoping to then pin it on Conservatives sometime this year. But I believe it has back-fired on them. Look at how weak king husseins "Act like an adult" speech was. He was pathetic. What a total loser, and it showed.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion anyway.
Remember the old saying: "You can fool all of the people some of the time...."
I think they're scared to death of a gov. shutdown. Personally, I welcome it.
Yep, the Republicans (and especially the Tea Party) will get the blame for cleaning up the Democrat's mess.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile , Stil have you heard about the two "devout Muslims" who were just appointed to high level posts in the Dept. of Homeland Security. The arrogance/stupidity/naivete' of this administration and it's Glorious Leader is simply astounding.
The Administration, and the President, and the Democrats have seen the enemy. And it is us; we the people.
ReplyDeleteMr. Obama, shut down that government. Make my day.
If shutting down the government meant othing more than the people in charge were out of work, I'd be all for it. But speaking as a member of the US Armed Forces, a deployable Soldier who has a family - I am not going to enjoy the lack of a paycheck.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I would just like to see every member of Congress lose their pay (but continue to work) until they get their act together, but I know that will never happen.
Know what the Democraps remind me of? they remind me of those jewelry stores that price their merchandise about double, then mark it down "an amazing 70%!" This fools many into thinking they got the deal of the century, when they are actually getting completely screwed.
ReplyDeleteFolks, the morons are still out there and they still vote. I still see Obama stickers on cars every day, so lets stay focused and do our level best to educate the ignorant. I would like to think that most people don't buy into The Chief Socialist's BS, but... I say let it shut down for about a week, and when the sky miraculously doesn't cave in, maybe some of the ignorant ones will open their eyes.
Anon. above. I thought (perhaps in complete error) that folks in the armed forces continue to get paid under a shutdown. If not, they certainly SHOULD have this small bit of security. Somebody please set me straight on this one.
@Anonymous (two above)- Unquestionably, there are a lot of innocent people who would be hurt by a government shutdown, and I'm sorry that you're one of them.
ReplyDeleteIt's frankly amazing to me that the mainstream media wants to characterize this as a clash between Republicans and Democrats instead of focusing on the huge and obvious story at the core: that the reason there IS no operating budget with which to keep the government going is that the Democrats never bothered to create or pass one last year.
A budget didn't "die in committee" or face overwhelming opposition. It wasn't filibustered to death, or pushed aside by more pressing national emergencies.
Nope, the Democrats just decided to give the finger to the American people. They didn't even pretend to care, nor make any apologies.
And so the story shouldn't be that the Republicans may have a hand in shutting down the government...rather, the story should be that the Republicans have been able to keep the government funded even this long in 2011 in the face of the Democrats' abandonment of any semblance of principle or responsibility.
I believe some essential services continue to function during a shut down. I would presume combat soldiers would be an essential function...or at least those in theater.
ReplyDeleteBobo - which begs the obvious question - why the HELL are we paying dime ONE for NON-essential services?
ReplyDeleteOn Saturday, eliminate the Department of Education. Fire every last employee, look into breaking leases for office space (there'll be some cost here), sell any furniture that cannot be used to brighten up military barracks or bases facilities, and be done with it. That will save a bit of cash to keep the fed govt going for another month or so.
ReplyDelete@Bobo- As I understand it, military pay will still accrue but no checks will be issued on those amounts until Harry Reid is willing to kiss federal funding of the Cowboy Poetry Festival goodbye.
ReplyDeleteThe military continues to serve, but they will not be paid if the budget has not passed. They will eventually get their backpay, but you can't go to your rental agency or the grocery store and give IOUs.
ReplyDeleteIt hasn't come up in the past because there have always been stopgap measures approved in time.
Here's the most recent news I've seen about it: http://www.armytimes.com/news/2011/04/military-no-pay-shutdown-omb-040611w/
MADNESS!!!! ...I hope anyone who voted for O has learned his or her lesson! And...if you feel like he is doing a good job for this country, WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?????
ReplyDeleteJust found this on American thinker...a quote from a czech paper....
ReplyDelete"The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency...Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president."
Ouch
pryorguy- Please post a link to that article! I would love to print it, frame it, and hang it in the break room at work!!! (I'm the only conservative in the whole building- They won't hardly even talk to me anymore...)
ReplyDeleteYeh, I am made nervous that the uninformed (and others who benefit from his 'leadership')will oblige Obama with a second term where he will run completely wild....here's the link....

Graylady - I agree….. The stupidity due to political correctness out of Washington never stops. Not one ounce, not even one drop of common sense among all of those super intellectual “progressive” elites.
ReplyDeleteJim H – well put.
Pete-Detroit – I completely agree
Pryorguy – It’s so true
My blood is boiling over the budget (or more aptly put, lack of a budget) issue. The Democratic majority of the 2010 Congress was so busy trying to ram bull-snot legislation down our throats that they couldn’t even put a budget together. Now the most important people to our country, our great military, are not going to get paychecks? It’s just inexcusable the way the 2010 Congress shirk their responsibilities, do not own up to their mistakes & blame them on everybody else. If you screwed up this big at your job; you’d be out on your butt (well, unless you were tenure or in a union)
The masses are generally uninformed & they will swallow, hook, line & sinker that it is the Republican’s fault. Even the few that watch MSM – that will be emphasized. Then, there’s what 15-25%? liberal “progressives”? They have big mouths & mouthpieces to match. They will completely rip the Republicans and deny any Democratic responsibility, not to mention that they trash-talk the Tea Party every chance they get.
Readers- Rather than comment individually on the last few posts (all of which are good, by the way) I'll just say that the one-two punch of voter stupidity and media malfeasance is a tough nut to crack.
ReplyDeleteFrankly, I blame those factors more than the politicians themselves; there will always be self-serving assholes, but they're only dangerous when empowered by the ill-informed and cognitively impaired.
