Take This Job And Cubit
Although Barack Obama has aligned himself with those who are against profit, he seemingly has no problem declaring himself to be a prophet. Or so it seemed when he recently lashed out at congressional Republicans (and, oh yeah, virtually all of the Democrats) for voting to reaffirm "In God We Trust" on our nation's currency.
"In God We Trust is not putting people back to work," quoth the Prophet Obama. "I trust in God, but God wants to see us help ourselves by putting people back to work!"
It was just a bit unclear how people "help themselves" by waiting for the government to put them to work, but of course Barack Obama works in mysterious ways and has an unseen plan which we can not (and do not) fathom.
And the president's revelation also begs the question of what sort of jobs God would want to steer people towards. High-speed arks? Renewable energy from burning bushes? The development of diet-friendly low-sodium pillars of salt? And if God is keenly interested in job-creating, is he really likely to entrust the job to politicians?
Moreover, it's curious that God is spending so much intimate one-on-one time speaking to Obama these days, after the president's Guinness World Record achievement of attending Jeremiah Wright's church for 20 consecutive years without listening to a single sermon.
Still, Whitehouse spokesman and noted biblical scholar Jay Carney declares it was fair for Barack Hussein Obama to invoke the name of God when attacking Republicans because the Bible says "The Lord helps those who help themselves." Only the Bible doesn't contain those words...though this misunderstanding might explain why so many in the Obama administration believe in "helping themselves" to our money.
The president says his big problem with the vote to reaffirm "In God We Trust" is that the Republicans should have been trying to create jobs instead of wasting the country's time.
Of course, those same Republicans had already offered up 15 job-creation bills... but every one of them was shot down by the president's own Democrat-led senate.
We might not be theological experts...but that truly strikes us as a sin.
Stilton Jarlsberg
Why is it that tyrants, petty or great, invoke the name of God to convince people that God is on the side of the tyrant. Never any mention if they are, in fact, on God's side. Isn't that the more important question?
ReplyDeleteAs a Christian I trust that the bible tells me what God's intentions are for us, what we need to do for others and how we will be saved. I missed the part about governments taking from some people and giving to other people to make life "fair". I think Turdboy has misinterpreted the line "Give unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's..." to mean "Give unto Ceasar, everything." Not surprising coming from an idiot who claimed to have taught the Constitution but doesn't understand five percent of it. Why would we expect that festering SCOAMF to have a clue about what's really in the bible.
Simply put: he believes he is god; therefor, he KNOWS what god wants. God wants his jobs bill passed, dammit! All hail Pharaoh!
ReplyDeleteIt has been opined that Pharaoh and his minions are anti-Catholic. I offer that he is deeply anti-Christian and MUST pour his derision on ANYTHING done in the public sector to bolster the Christian faith. It's part of what makes Øbama Øbama.
I applaud what was done in the House, and admire the courage first to bring it forward, and second to actually reflect the will of the people and pass it so decisively. And I watch with interest to see how the actions the opposition play out with their constituents (in all but CA - they voted as their whacko leftist constituents would have them do). As I applaud Congress as a whole for ditching Øbama's jobs bill. May they continue to do so...
Perhaps the Annointed One has heard of another saying pertaining to the Almighty (my personal favorite): "Resistence to tyranny is obedience to God!" -Thomas Jefferson
ReplyDeleteSurly sixty days of golfing could have as well been better spent. The only jobs bill I want to see going forward would look verily much like impeachment. Bleaching that skid-mark from the national skivvies we call 'the beltway' would be a good first step towards economic recovery.
ReplyDeleteI say the beltway since it encloses Washington DC, which is where the tube would be inserted should America need an enema (which it clearly does).
Mike - Hells, yes, DC needs an enema. As Mark Twain said, "politicians and diapers need to be changed frequently - for the same reason."
ReplyDeleteI was thrilled, THRILLED I tell ya, to hear some other Democrat has filed to run against my D-bag congress critter John Conyers. (Sorry Fk has been in office since my 1st b-day - Needs to GO) UN-fortunately, the platform is that Old John has been slipping, not helping the president get enough DONE - i.e. this new jackass is playing to be even MORE of a commie leftard than the current jackass.
Unions and Welfare Queens will likely eat it all up...
>sigh<
Funny, the Lord did put a commandment in the top ten: Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wealth.
ReplyDeleteI guess Obama and the Democrats, or the Occupiers, did not get up to that part yet.
Yet, as a frequent target myself of those whom proclaim to know exactly what God wants, and who among us must be declared an enemy of the people, I dare say one more on the pile of Pharisees makes me nervous.
@Angry Hoosier Dad- I have never heard Barack Obama make a reference to God or the Bible which was not entirely self-serving and utterly without conviction. When he finishes a speech with "God bless you and God bless America," it has all the moral gravitas of a car ad's disclaimer "tax, title and license not included, other conditions may apply."
ReplyDelete@Emmentaler- In today's paper, I read after Republicans (and some Democrats) didn't vote for Obama's tax-raising scheme to fund construction jobs, there was an immediate "revenge" vote which killed a GOP plan which would create similar jobs but pay for it with $40 Billion in unspent funds from other programs. It seems that if Obama really had a vision from God that we should be working on roads and bridges, he'd demand that the Dems pass that GOP bill, and the president would sign it and start Tebowing before the ink was dry. But nooOOooooo....
@Flyboy- You've got to hand it to ol' Thomas Jefferson: when the man is right, he's right.
@Mike Porter- You've got a nice way with words. Suddenly I want a bumpersticker that says "Bleach The Skid-Mark From The National Skivvies: ANYONE ELSE 2012."
@Pete(Detroit)- Isn't it amazing that there are so many on the left who are unhappy that Obama isn't getting more done? It's hard to believe that they're carbon-based oxygen-breathing life forms... because they clearly come from another planet.
@Jim Hlavac- God probably thought He'd tied up the "neighbor's wealth" issue with "Thou Shalt Not Steal" and "Thou Shalt Not Covet Thy Neighbor's Wife, and Ox, and Private Jet And Stuff." But then Satan created lawyers, who pointed out that there was no commandment which said "Thou Shalt Not Vote For Skeevy Politicians Who Steal Thy Neighbor's Wealth FOR Thee."
As for Obama and the Democrats (and everyone else, for that matter), I'm impressed by their use of scripture far more when I see it also being reflected in their lives. Otherwise, it's just a particularly hypocritical form of blasphemy.
I'm willing to bet that the left sees the Bible as a "living document", to be twisted and interpreted as they see fit.
ReplyDeleteInterestingly enough, Ron Paul was absent from the "In God We Trust" vote, and when asked, said he would have voted no. "States Rights". Scary...I'm all for states rights, but not when there's so many states rights, we are no longer the "United States". (I've never been a Paulite but I have to just shake my head at this one.)
ReplyDeleteFar be it for me to judge a person's relationship with the Almighty...but ever since Obama was 'vetted' by Rick Warren at his mega-church in CA, my own personal opinion is that Obama is a CINO, (christian in name only). Plus, it only shows the depth of desperation when someone starts evoking God into their narrative!
ReplyDeleteHow about the German soldiers we fought in WW2? Supposedly we all served the same God, did we not? Or, our own Civil War? The CINO label applies, unfortunately, to too many people around the world.Only a CINO will fall for 'name-dropping' by another CINO! And Obama knows it! After all, isn't he soooo smart?
Feelin a bit sarcastic today, sorry.
Uhm,
ReplyDeletein my readings of the Bible,
I don't think God was all that Job-friendly.
Job-friendly!! Good one!
ReplyDeleteConsider this:
ReplyDeleteWe have no one but ourselves to blame. Obama was chosen by the people of the U.S. He was elected democratically, and therefore is nothing more than an iconic representation of our own ignorance, greed, and infantile sense of entitlement. Obama is not the problem, and his electoral defeat in 2012 will not magically heal the country or return us to prosperity and freedom.
We have the government we deserve. Prosperity and freedom will return only if and when the American people again become educated, virtuous, and intelligent.
I'd sooner ask Madelyn Murray O'hare or Richard Dawkins about what God wants than The Almighty Obummer ...
ReplyDelete@Bacon- Liberals like the idea of "living documents" because they believe anything living can be killed at their convenience.
ReplyDelete@Suzy- Ron Paul is a funny guy, but I do like his attitude (mostly) about states' rights. There do need to be some unifying principles to keep us United, though.
@Pryorguy- Hey, what's the idea of getting sarcastic?! I HATE sarcasm! Or not (grin). Since I'm not a member of a church, I'm probably not the best person to judge Obama's christianity. But I can opine that he believes in no higher being than himself.
@DougM- Hi, stranger! You make a great (and funny) point. I think Job would feel right at home (albeit not comfortable) in Obama's employment market.
@Anonymous- I agree with every word, except for a certain resistance on my part to be included in the collective "we" when it comes time to apportion the blame for Obama. But if we can substitute the word "America" instead, I'm with you all the way. And you're right - getting Obama out of office is only a small (but crucial) first step. And the resurrection of America, if it happens, will be brought about by the people and not the government.
@Just Another Dave- The late Ms. O'hare and Mr. Dawkins would at least be honest about their beliefs (or lack of them), while Obama would lie through his teeth.
Obama is very Christian....He thinks he is the reincarnation of Christ....and therefore completely above the law as proved by his refusal yesterday (Friday) to comply with a Congressional Subpoena to produce documents about the White Houses involvement in Solyndra.
ReplyDelete@pryorguy:
ReplyDeleteDid the German soldiers who fought in WWII think God was on their side? Years ago I saw a belt buckle from a German Wehrmacht uniform that had the swastika on it. Above the swastika were the words "Gott mit uns." (God is with us.)
Yeah, they thought they were in the right, too.
Lest anyone think I am disparaging the Christian elements, I am not. While I am not a Bible-thumping, Jesus shouting Christian, I do have a deep belief in our Savior and pray for the deliverance of our nation.
And an aside to Jim Hlavac, I do not--and will never--throw stones at you or your compadres. As St. Matthew taught so clearly, how I treat you is how I treat our Lord...if I am disrespectful to you or to anyone else I am also likewise disrespectful to Him.
The Hairy Wombat
Well, that is the point I was making...the Germans thought they were serving God too. In reality, they were serving their fearless leader.
ReplyDeleteLet Obama golf as much as possible, seven days a week if the weather's good. He talks less and does much less damage to the country when he's trying to make par.
ReplyDelete@AHD
ReplyDeleteJulius "Seizer".
@Dave- I thought it was (sadly) hilarious that the Whitehouse justified their rejection of the Solyndra subpoena on the grounds that it was "partisan politics." Their proof? No Democrat voted for the subpoena. But how that makes the Republicans more partisan than Democrats, I'm not sure...
ReplyDelete@Hairy Wombat- Again, I'm out of my league in the religion department, but it's my belief that people should use their faith to guide their own actions and morality rather than use it as a club to beat down opposing viewpoints. (By the way, I admire your stance on respecting others, and wish it was more widespread.)
@Pryorguy- The Germans should have tumbled to the fact that there are no representations of God which show him having a little black paintbrush mustache.
@graylady- I agree, with the exception that you say Obama should play seven days a week "if the weather's good." I, on the other hand, don't think a good round of golf should be delayed just because there's a little lightning.
@Coon Tasty- Brevity is the...
Stilt, I carry a #1 iron in my bag, as I have been assured that "God Himself can't hit a #1 iron"...
ReplyDeleteit's useful for punching out through trees....
(all time favorite beer commercial - Lebatt Blue - coupla guys on a golf course, standing around, "what's he UP to?" "I dunno" (Muttering) >CRACK< (ball comes FLYING out of the woods, lands on the green) (Lebatt Bear comes walking out of the woods, club in hand) "Hey, can the bear HIT in the woods?!")
Only time I've been driven off a course from weather (and it's been raining bad, and if I'm in a league...) I was with my college roomie Texas Doc. Wind came up, we keep playing. Spitting rain (no lightening) we keep playing. Sirens start to howl (one right next to us, can't hear each other at ALL) and he points to his ear, and makes a 'what up?' gesture w/ hands, followed by a 'down the drain' swirl w/ index pointing down (I interpreted as "Tornado?") w/ shrug of shoulder...
I nodded, repeated swirl, pointed back toward clubhouse, stabbed at ground - NOW!
Some things, you just do NOT Eff with.
Tornadoes perhaps >just< slightly higher on the list than IRS...
Not surprising that so many Libs/Dems would incorrectly think(?) that the Bible says, "The Lord helps those who help themselves."
ReplyDeleteHeck, their primary M.O. ever since they first caught sight of the shiny things that other people have has been 24x7x365 "helping themselves" to other folks' goodies whenever/wherever they can glom onto them and resistriubting them to buy votes.
It's only fitting that our Narcissist-in-Chief and his sycophant acolytes would ascribe to the same self-serving worldview.
@Pete(Detroit)- Many years ago, Mrs. Jarlsberg and I lived in a trailer in Indiana's tornado alley, so I take those giant spinning tentacles of doom seriously (and wish there were basements in Texas, where I now live).
ReplyDelete@Chris- I see nothing in this administration that would square with any rational interpretation of the Bible. Or even basic decency.
