Head Games

Sadly, the scenario shown in the cartoon is a complete fantasy...and for all the wrong reasons.

Although the mainstream media is perfectly happy to report breathlessly about Mitt Romney's hair-cutting prank which happened 45 years ago, you're unlikely to hear anything about the latest huge pile of decapitated bodies in Mexico... victims of the drug cartels like those armed by Barack Obama's oddly-named "Justice" Department.

And perhaps the reason we're not hearing about the drug cartels is because it might remind the American public that the whole "Fast & Furious" gun-smuggling fiasco has been swept under a rug by Barack Obama and Eric Holder without any answers. And that's a growing phenomenon which bothers Hope n' Change deeply.

Specifically, our alleged "news" organizations now routinely drop stories not because they've been resolved, but simply because their 15 minutes in the spotlight is up and it's time to move on to something - anything - to entertain and distract a dimwitted and memory-impaired populace.

Think about it: when was the last time you heard any story embarrassing to the Obama
administration pursued to an actual conclusion? Have we heard who's to blame for the wretched spending excesses and lavish Las Vegas parties of the GSA? Is the media updating us regularly with reports of how it was possible for the Secret Service to turn into "Guys Gone Wild?" Or who in the government leaked the top secret details of the undercover "underwear bomber" operation, severely compromising international intelligence-gathering operations?

And of course, the media ignores the little matter of Eric Holder refusing to produce documents to congress about "Fast and Furious" which might reveal whether the program's stealth goal was to institute tougher anti-gun measures in the United States...but does find time to praise him for making a speech to the NAACP about Trayvon Martin and (surprise!) the need to institute tough
er anti-gun measures in the United States.

The abject failure of American journalism isn't news to readers of Hope n' Change Cartoons. We've bemoaned the abysmal state of the mainstream media many times in the past. You're probably sick of hearing about it, and we're certainly weary of watching things go from bad to worse.

But unlike the news media, we just can't let go of such a serious issue until there is some genuine resolution and we return to a time when public officials will be held accountable for their actions and misdeeds.

We just wish we could believe that someday, somehow, it will actually happen.

Bear with me...this is actually on topic:
Called my mother in CA to wish her a happy Mother's Day. She was bemoaning the sad state of the economy and the nation and how hard times have been for so many over the past few years. Then she said that she feared that Mitt Romney might actually stand a chance of being elected. I was incredulous. I asked her if she knew who was in charge for the past 3-1/2 years and didn't that mean something. She said she didn't want to talk about that. She is a consumer of MSM and nothing else. Worse, she believes what they tell her.
See why this matters? This is why I hold the MSM in even greater contempt than the snakes and scorpions in Washington.

This entire election is going to be one HUGE smear campaign. The only way to attempt to get BO reelected is to destroy Romney every chance they get. Of course it's pretty sad that the only thing they can find with all the resources of the government and the liberal media is this "hair cutting" incident when Romney was a teenager. Because they know BO can't win on his record of keeping campaign promises. the only way for the current incumbent to win reelection is to make the opponent so repugnant to independents that they vote for the vote-whore Obama just because they believe Mitt is a super extreme right wing nut job.
I heard Cher call him a racist, right wing, homophobic, woman hating, Tea bagger? Of course this just proves a couple of things about the left. First they are not above calling someone names if ti furthers their cause. Second that truth has no bearing on their beliefs. And Third that they really don't understand the Tea Party. I don't think anyone in the Tea Party would embrace Mitt Romney as their ideal candidate. To me he is more like Obama lite, however, even slowing our decent is preferable to "Forward".

I think we need to start screaming as a nation for answers to all of these current and past scandals in this administration. No administration is without scandal but I can't remember a more corrupt White House since Nixon. It's time to have some real Hope and Change and clean house. Let the Putter-in-Chief work on his golf stroke on his on time....after We the People evict him from Washington.

  4. This is why Andrew Breitbart was such a visionary: the only hope for the truth is the citizen journalist.

  5. @ Dave:
To be clear, the Nixon White House was about 10 percent of the evil the MSM makes it out to be. The Obama regime, however, is about ten times the evil the MSM will ever admit to. How any Republican ever gets elected against the efforts of the MSM is pretty remarkable.

  6. Stilt, hang in there. Public officials WILL be held accountable, cameras will follow them around constantly reporting every misdeed, actual or merely perceived. All we have to do is elect conservatives. It's already happening to Mitt, and he's not even THAT much of a conservative! See also Scott Walker, and Rick Snyder (governor of MI - balanced the budget, even a slight surplus, unemployment dropping... naturally the press hates him.)

  7. @Coon Tasty- Quite true.

@Angry Hoosier Dad- Your comment is exactly on topic. My own mother (now deceased) was much the same way, believing in an unquestioning way whatever the MSM and the local liberal newspaper gave her (and this was in Hawaii, which is nearly a socialist state and Obama remains a favorite son if only because the state desperately needs the revenue from his annual vacations). And I see the same thing elsewhere on the Internet where liberals gather: they literally have no idea what they're talking about, but parrot talking points as if Moses had delivered them on a tablet.

Our nation is marinating in lies, and like you I'm damned angry about those responsible.

@Dave- Great post. The MSM and Obama campaign are going to villify Romney in ways we can barely imagine... and an eager and gullible populace will lap up every lie.

Regarding Cher, I think she's now outlived her mind's "sell by" date. Her attack was all angry invective and passion without even a hint of reality. And to her, and many people, the media has successfully painted a picture of the Tea Party as the new hoodless KKK. When I tell people that I'M Tea Party, it usually goes over about as well as revealing a new swastika forehead tattoo.

And I completely agree that the Obama administration is corrupt beyond words - but doubt that there's a will in Washington to hold him accountable. Which is why he needs to be tossed OUT of Washington ASAP.

@The Digital Hairshirt- I mourn the loss of Andrew Breitbart every day, but celebrate the fact that so many people are carrying his torch. His successes showed a lot of people that citizen journalists can make a difference. Technology is making the playing field more even - as well as taking away excuses for anyone who really cares to not get involved.

@My Dog Brewski- I agree about the Nixon Whitehouse. And people tend to forget what a huge deal it was for Nixon to open relations with China. Unlike the current president, who has devoted much of his presidency to opening relations with Mecca.

And I think the reason that Republicans get elected despite the MSM is there's ONE thing which is fairly predictably on our side: reality. Usually a reality that sucks because Dems have screwed things up, and the people want a change.

@Pete(Detroit)- Oh, I'm hanging in, and I'm even hopeful (granted, what passes for "hopeful" in me would look like surly grumpiness to most people. It's part of my charm).

And as you say, there ARE conservatives being elected and their policies are working. The press may hate them for it, but even idiots have eyes to see when things get better... if we can just convince them to ignore the media and look at reality.

    ReplyDelete
  8. @ Stilton:
The problem with electing people (Bush) who claim to be conservative but aren't is that when they push for big-government solutions (TSA, TARP, No Child Left Behind, etc.) to problems, people think that is a conservative initiative and it makes the next liberal demigod in line look "reasonable" by comparison.

  9. This one hits close to home.

I work several days a week in Laredo, which is a town on the Texas-Mexico border. It's also a major smuggling route for the cartels. The violence down there is so far beyond the average person's experience that it is literally unimaginable. Running gun battles lasting several hours are not uncommon. (It's not just guns - they also use automatic weapons, grenades, rockets, and armored vehicles.) The bridges across the Rio Grande have been closed more than once as the fighting neared the border and U.S. LEOs took up defensive positions along the river.

People are decapitated, disemboweled, and otherwise tortured in the most gruesome ways possible, and then their bodies are put on public display. Their mutilated bodies deliver messages, if you know how to read them.

If the tongue is cut out, it means the person talked too much—he was a snitch, or chupro.

Someone who has informed on or otherwise betrayed the cartel has his finger cut off and maybe put in his mouth - a traitor to a narco-cartel is known as a dedo; a finger.

Castration means that the victim messed around with another cartel member's woman - or maybe even just looked at her wrong.

Severed arms mean the person stole from the cartel.

Severed legs mean the person tried to leave the cartel - tried to walk away.

I could go on, but you get the idea. The situation down there is a mess, and the obama administration is only making it worse. I still, for the life of me, can't understand why eric holder hasn't been indicted, but that's another story.

For those of you who live more than a few miles north of the border, ask yourselves why you haven't heard any of this? I think we all know that answer. As Stilton and many of you have pointed out, the media has no interest in reporting on stories that reflect poorly on obama and his wrecking crew. They find it far more compelling to examine how Romney transported his dog or pulled little Susie's pigtails 40+ years ago than to investigate the blanks in obama's past or the current abuses of his administration.

Thank God (and Al Gore, of course) for the Internet...

  10. CenTexTim - Thx for news 'from the front line' as it were. And full agreed on the internet!

    ReplyDelete
  11. @My Dog Brewski- I'm in complete agreement. There was nothing remotely "conservative" about much of Bush's profligate spending...and I'm afraid much of it was about trying to buy votes in a bidding war with the Democrats. And that's a game we all lose.

@CenTexTim- Obama, Holder, and Napolitano know every iota of what you're talking about...and what do they do? They erect warning signs telling HONEST people to stay out of the drug cartel's territories and delivery routes in the United States.

But to the media, this isn't even a story. At least, not one as important as trumpeting Barack Obama as the new "Gay Jesus" (per the cover of Newsweek).

@Pete(Detroit)- I'm thankful for the Internet too...even though I find that it now eats up all my time!

  12. You'd think the msm would draw connections between a certain president's past drug use and cartel violence. Or the other heavy drug using groups (Hollywood). Nope. Obesity is so much more important.

    ReplyDelete
  13. @Stilton - Most of those warning signs are in national parks and other federal lands controlled by the Dept. of the Interior. Border Patrol agents and other LEOs are not allowed to enter those areas without permission from the National Parks Service or the Bureau of Land Management. Even when they get permission, it often comes with restrictions (no ATVs, no 4x4 vehicles, etc.) to minimize any environmental impact.

Of course, the drug cartels and human smugglers operate under no such restrictions. So they have what are essentially free-passage corridors into this country.

There is a bill pending that would authorize the Border Patrol to operate in federal lands without many of the onerous restrictions currently placed on them. Of course, the environmentalists oppose it. They seem to believe that any environmental impact from enforcing the law is worse than the impact from people breaking the law.

I guess all those dead bodies don't matter. Oh well, at least they're biodegradable...

  14. I am shocked!! Mitt Romney cut somebody's HAIR in high school?! Well now, that's just the last straw. He should have been out doing normal stuff like getting drunk, smoking pot and snorting coke.... like Obama.

So the MSM has gotten this desperate already? This might be a good sign. Hell, by October, they're going to be reduced to bringing up the time when Mitt dirtied his diapers twice in one hour, or the time back in 1977 when he doubled dipped the salsa at a Mexican restaurant.

Cher? Who the hell is Cher? I vaguely remember... Oh yeah! She's that racist, left wing, bisexual, man hating, washed up hag that hasn't been relevant to anybody but her cosmetic surgeon for about 25 years. At least she raised up a fine, young... ummm, young... daughter (?), just to show you can be both famous AND normal. You know, normal... like Paris Hilton or Alec Baldwin.

    ReplyDelete
  15. @Earl- Hey, what's a little casual drug use, right? Of course, if we look way, way, WAY back two weeks ago, there was a terrorist plan to blow up a bridge in the USA - and the bad guys were funding the plot with drug sales (mostly marijuana) while working out of a liberal college town in Indiana.

@CenTexTim- Wow. Your post is informative and maddening all at the same time. Well played, sir,

@Colby- If anyone was going to be outraged over the Romney story, it should be me. Why? Because in Junior High I wore my hair slightly shaggy - and my psychotic gym teacher had a group of his student thugs tackle me and pin me to the ground while the teacher chopped my hair off with rusty scissors (and as a bonus, drew blood). Was it traumatic? Hell, yes. Am I holding it against Romney? No. Am I still plotting revenge on that gym teacher? I think I'll plead the fifth...

But apart from all of that, Mrs. Lincoln, I agree that it's potentially a good sign that Obama is attacking Romney on such random and meaningless crap. I'd like to think they don't have many arrows in their quiver.

And regarding Cher, she's just another tired old liberal who is completely out of touch with reality. If you look at her life, she's pitiable. But that doesn't mean she shouldn't STFU.

  16. The media's seeming amnesia over "Fast & Furious" is hardly a surprise, and win-or-lose come November, I fully expect the issue to almost completely disappear. And its not like the media really suffers amnesia; It's just a very selective amnesia. They're still going on about the 2000 election, George W's supposed non-military service (Dan Rather still insists the documents were real) and George H's war for oil. Heck, NPR is still droning on about Iran-Contra 30 years later!

@Angry Hoosier Dad: Sounds like your mother is suffering from "CNN Poisoning". I've seen a lot of older folk who suffer from it by spending way too much time in front of the telly. The only cure is quitting CNN and getting some fresh air.

@Stilton, conservative policies have always worked wherever and whenever they've been applied, which is why the left can't afford to let us return to them. Since they so well control the mass media, they've been able to get away with "regulating capitalism", and then blaming the failure on "capitalism" instead of their "regulating". As @My Dog Brewski pointed out, it only gives the left the ammunition they need when we elect squishies who embrace big government then fail. When that happens, it's never big government that gets the blame.

If I were running a presidential campaign, my motto would be "Fundamentally restoring America".

@CenTexTim, since the mainstream media is headquartered safely thousands of miles away from the southwest, the problem really isn't real to them. They only experience "border issues" in terms of the cost and availability of domestic servants".

  19. @robsan19, quite a blatant display, especially considering that Newsweek IS the magazine for the "wicked stupid" liberal who needs even populist liberalism dumbed down to a cud-chewing level.

But I do have to agree with him that both Time & Newsweek, once serious news-weekly's, are pandering in desperate attempts to remain relevant.

  20. @alan markus, that's almost unbelievable. I guess the only surprise is that he didn't try to usurp more Presidents.

My guess is that this is an attempt to brainwash schoolchildren, who are probably the majority of the people who visit the site to that depth. Fortunately, Obama will be long gone before most of those kids will be old enough to vote.

@alan - I just checked out the article and the Whitehouse.gov site. This is disgusting and shows even more the narcissistic tenancies of this pretender. How dare he edit the biographies of the other great men that held his office which he continues to cheapen and degrade everyday his golf-playing ass sits in the Oval Office. I have gotten outraged about many things over the years with ODumbass in office, but I think this one is one of the worst bits of BS I have seen in a long time. We need to get him out of office. The sooner the better....unfortunately the soonest he will be removed is Jan 2013, even though I believe he has committed numerous impeachable offenses if only the Senate had some balls. We also need to use these bullet points every time a liberal is bashing an ex-president. If the ex-presidents are so bad then why is their messiah associating his name with them.

    ReplyDelete
  23. @Readers- Great points about the outrageous articles and Obama trying to describe himself as the model of what every president should have been. As 1984 warned us, it's much easier to rewrite history than to actually make it.

I know that November isn't that far away on the calendar, but I swear election day seems more distant all the time. It can't get here soon enough for me. Obama's attacks on our country, our history, and our future are starting to strip-mine my bone marrow (or so it feels on some days...like this one).
