  5. greylady, 30 years ago, when I was living in College Station, I noticed that the 'Chinese' places were staffed (waits, buses) by Hispanics, and the Mexican places mostly had Oriental staff. Was kinda funny, I thought...

    I'll continue to spend the day calling to mind the greatness that was and still is ... hopefully waking up.

    @Chuck- I'm afraid I'm not in a celebratory mood myself today. In fact, I've been dragging all day and think it's simply that I'm in mourning following the two recent Supreme Court decisions which upheld, and empowered, the most wretched administration imaginable.

    However, I just saw a wonderful and very moving segment on Fox News with 14 wounded warriors (multiple amputees all) who aren't complaining about their sacrifices, and who reminded me to take a deep breath and keep fighting this vastly safer battle here at home.

    Fox mentioned that donations to help build "smart homes" to give these heroes greater independence can be sent here...and I'm doing it right now.

    My wife and I were watching the series about John Adams yesterday. She noted how the ideals of the founders are just not evident these days. I think our founders were on to something when they put their faith and hopes in Divine Providence. They knew that God could put a protective hand over a whole nation if that nation chose to seek His protection. What we seem to have forgotten is that He can just as easily remove it when we offend Him. We can see where our reliance on slick packaging and personalities has gotten us. What PRY and graylady said was right, but we need to ask for God's blessing as a nation. How many expect Obama to lead us in that prayer?

  11. @Angry Hoosier Dad- As I've mentioned before, I'm not a member of any church and am not a "believer" (but have great respect for those who are). But that being said, I think the universality of faith - and with it a code of morality and ethics - which characterized our country in earlier generations is sorely missing today. Whether one looks to theology or not, it's easy to see what happens to a nation - our nation - when too many of its people and politicians are just no damned good (and I'm using "damned" in the Biblical sense).

    You say you can't imagine Obama leading the country in a prayer of humility and asking for God's assistance (and neither can I). On a more secular level, I can't imagine Obama showing humility, or giving a speech in which he actually inspires us, or encourages us to aspire to act in moral and responsible ways. Instead, every word out of this venal little man's mouth is about class warfare and his own reelection.

    Maybe I should rethink my position on religion - because Obama is as clear a plague as any that was visited upon Egypt.

  12. I'm going to go totally off the ranch here for a minute.

    Does anyone have the real scoop on the UN gun control crap that Billary and BO are supposedly signing July 27? Dick Morris is making it sound like this "treaty" or whatever the hell it is will trump our Constitution and UN forces will be coming to grab all of our guns. Now I know that BO and his buds hate the constitution and go to great lengths to disregard and trash it, but can he really sign a UN paper that will over-rule the second ammendment?

    I'm trying to imagine some dork from France or Belguim going around in Texas or Wyoming trying to seize guns. It boggles the brain!

  13. Barack Hussein can sign any paper treaty he wants. If the Senate doesn't ratify it, it won't take effect. However, if the Senate DOES ratify it, it's possible that that treaty will then supersede the Constitution. Of course, a treaty that can overturn the Constitution would likely set off the next American Revolution. Except in the solidly Demo_Ratic areas of the country, where nobody really understands how important liberty is.

    A UN treaty isn't exactly back-door gun control when the Senate would have to ratify it with everybody watching them. Of course, Obama could just "deem it" ratified I guess. Who would stop him...SCOTUS? Don't make me laugh.

  16. Thanks, JustaJeepGuy. I feel so much better now, knowing that the Senate can put the kibosh on it. I am confident the Senate, under Harry Reid's spectacular leadership, will do what's right and defend our constitution to the death.... death of the constitution, that is.

    He has now gotten away with his crap so many times, it's about too late for anybody to challenge it. Doesn't anybody in Washington (besides Issa) have any nuts anymore? Arrrgh!

AHD...God bless you, brother...when a people turn their backs on God, or fail to acknowledge HIS authority in all matters, which we humans almost ALWAYS do, well, we limit what God can do for us. I believe he wants us to rely on him more, instead of "man's rule" on this earth; not talking about a theocracy, that would not be realistic in this world, but there was a time on this earth that He did rule and provide, until people wanted a 'king' other than Him (see the book of Samuel).

    The Mayflower Compact reveals the earliest settlers' dependence on God, though in a few short decades, like the ancient people so long ago, what God began, man took over, and, well, just look around...even with a GOOD man it is not the best, but with one such as Obama, life can get pretty rough.

    God brought us to where we are through various victories over our enemies in varous wars, and allowed us to become the greatest nation on earth. But as you say, turn you back on Him, and you are on your own! That is what we have done. I think it is good to understand that.
