Reign Turning To Drizzle
Looking at today's news is, frankly, heartbreaking. The 2000th (nearly unheralded) military death in Afghanistan...more violence across the Middle East...the collapsing US dollar...the Whitehouse coverup of the entirely predictable and entirely successful Benghazi terrorist attack...taxpayer money going to the Muslim Brotherhood...taxpayer money going to "Obamaphones"...16 young partygoers in Mexico slain with "Fast & Furious" guns...and on and on and on.
But what was perhaps the most troubling thing in today's news was the date: October 1st.
Or, to put it more accurately, ONLY October 1st...as in there's still a whole stinking month standing between us and the chance to go to the ballot box and vote out the loathsome, jug-eared, anti-American, hate-filled socialist who is currently wiping his sorry keester with our Constitution.
And frankly, that's driving us crazy here at the office towers of Hope n' Change Cartoons Unlimited. We don't want to see the new Fall TV shows and movies. We don't want to celebrate Halloween. We don't give a rat's hiney about Oktoberfest. We don't want to watch the leaves on the trees paint themselves in rich autumnal tones of orange, red, and yellow. And we especially don't want to see the First Lady demonstrating how to make Harvest apple cider by squeezing winesaps in her clawlike fists.
Oh sure, October will be the month for the debates - and those may well be crucial to finally exposing Barack Barry Hussein Soetoro Obama as the absolute failure he is, and showing people that Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are decent, intelligent men who have the vision, desire, and talent to actually start turning this country around.
But even so, October currently feels like the old Berlin Wall - an ugly, impenetrable edifice separating us from the freedom and hope we so yearn for.
It makes us wish that Ronald Reagan could shake a commanding fist and shout: "Mr. Obamachev, tear down this month!"
Hope n' Change Cartoons will get back to our standard format on Wednesday. But today, the damnable first of October, this was what we most needed to say.
REMINDER: Today (Monday 10/1) is the last day to get your 100% free copy of "Obama Sutra" (ebook version) at Amazon com! Check Friday's cartoon and commentary (below) for additional details!
Stilton Jarlsberg
I heard a rumor that since he would not be able to pass the legislation, Obama is trying to get rid of October by executive order - provided MSNBC's polls show him in the lead. The logistics of such an order would be left to Eric Holder in DOJ, raising speculation that October may be disguised as June and walked into Mexico...
ReplyDeleteI feel like the couple in your cartoon...waiting three years in the rain of lies, misdirection, cover ups, smoke and mirrors, to rid our once great nation of the cancer of progressive socialism. And, there are thousands of us who cannot wait to exercise one of our last constitutional rights.
ReplyDelete@ ricko from Georgia: would you be referring to the ballot box? or the bullet box? I think we are ALL ready for the former & some are even ready for the latter!
ReplyDeleteLuckily, I won't have to wait that long, my early voting starts 10/22, and I plan to vote early and often. I'm going to do something I haven't ever done, vote straight ticket becase as far as I'm concerned, it's us a'gin them, and if it puts a Republican 'Barney Fife' in office, so be it - we can correct later. Seriously, we need to affect change all the way down to the local school boards - that's where this cancer started back when. My school board wanted to stop covering American History prior to Reconstruction - 'cause it wasn't relevant, The American Revolution, the Constitution & Bill of Rights not relevant? Oh - so you can teach your version of Reconstruction - how the Lincoln Republicans beat you down and kept you in ignorance? Luckily, it was squashed but I'm sure elsewhere it was passed.
ReplyDeleteAnd as we debate National Security and the 'Good War', an interesting article from Blackfive:
http://www.blackfive.net/main/2012/09/a-small-point-on-that-military-report-card.html#trackback
Remember that the One said he would listen to his military commanders - they wanted 40K troops to be able to fight two operations through the next 'fighting season', they got 30K, only enough to field one arm of the pincer, and a pre-announced withdrawal date (give aid and comfort to your enemy Barry?)that stopped operations halfway through, and ROE's that were/are insane, including a non-verified report that NATO forces aren't allowed to call in air support anymore. And of course, we are to blame for the green on blue incidents - another link to Blackfive, also click the embedded link 'the solution' to see how crazy this PC s*** is coming down from the Army COS.
http://www.blackfive.net/main/2012/09/its-not-you-its-me.html#trackback
If you won't let them fight to win, then it's not worth one more drop of our sons/daughters blood.
Stilton, I know exactly what you mean about this particular October. It's one of the best seasons here in Colorado. Cool nights, crisp sunny days. Time to split the last of the firewood, clean out the gutters, switch from gin and tonics to scotch on the rocks, and anticipate the onset of ski season. Good times, good times. Except that this entire month will consist of tossing and turning all night, waking up feeling like I have a hair shirt on, hoping and praying that we will be shut of the anti-American, hypocritical, megalomanic, socialist SOB that is driving our once proud and shining country into the cesspool of Euro-socialist entitlement squalor.
ReplyDelete@Velcro- On the other hand, if Obama is clearly trailing in the polls as October draws to a close, Ben Bernanke will authorize the printing of new calendar pages with additional days inserted to give the president "temporal easing." Barry will still be doing fundraisers in Ohio on October 62nd.
ReplyDelete@Ricko from Georgia- It's how I feel, too. There were dozens of news stories worth talking about today, but they all boiled down to the same thing: Obama is a huge and ongoing disaster, and election day can't possibly arrive soon enough.
@Anonymous- Owing to a strict policy of non-violence in this comment section, I'd normally strike the bullet remark as inappropriate. Instead, I'm letting it stand so I can expound on it a bit. The idea of removing this president by any means other than the ballot box or a legal action of the court is unacceptable.
But... there is nothing inappropriate about being aware of our 2nd amendment rights, and possibly being prepared for defensive action if the feces hits the fan.
@Seadog- I, too, will be going the straight ticket route. That doesn't mean I'm in love with the GOP, but the Democrats need to be driven out of Washington and every elected office down to the level of dogcatcher.
Regarding our Commander-in-Chief, there's blood on his hands, and lots of it. He's using our troops as political pawns - putting them into hot zones and leaving them defenseless while telling our enemies the exact calendar date on which they'll win the war. My mind reels whenever I see reports that Barack Obama has a "clear advantage" over Romney when it comes to foreign policy. Not on this planet, he doesn't.
Sea Dog - "Fight to win" - Libbie heads would just explode...
ReplyDelete@TrickyRicky- Exactly. My stress level is turned up to 11, and my interest in anything other than the election is nearly nonexistent. In some ways, it feels like waiting impatiently for a doctor to call with the results of a test which will tell whether a loved one will live or die.
ReplyDeleteBecause I'm quite convinced that those are the stakes for this country.
@Pete(Detroit)- If we fought actual wars with the viciousness and lack of conscience shown by Democrats at election time, the world would tremble at the mention of our name.
ReplyDeleteI'm like a kid a month before Christmas that knows he is either going to get that spiffy new Play Station system with a 50" TV, or a 3,000 pound sack of dog shit that I will be expected to eat over the next 4 years. Part of me wants it over, but my sensible side knows better. Fox News polling even has turd eyes ahead by about 6%, so Mitt better really step it up at the debates!!
ReplyDeleteMrs. Colby and I went to see 2016 this weekend. ...very powerful stuff, and highly disturbing! Alas, though. I couldn't help but notice thet everyone in the theater was in the white, 40-60 age group like me. Didn't see any young people or people of color, and they are the ones who really need to see it.
@TrickyRicky, Go Broncos! (I grew up in your neighborhood - WY).
It's bow season in Michigan. That will take my mind off the election for the most par, and make the waiting a bit easier. But I remember driving home in 2008 in utter disbelief - and it wasn't over the point that I yet had no venison for the freezer. I hope to God that I don't repeat that particular experience this year - either facet of it...
ReplyDelete@ Sea Dog:
ReplyDeleteFor most of my adult life, I too never voted straight party. I am a Conservative, not a Republican, so I used to try to find one Democrat, at least locally, that I could vote for because I believed voting "straight party" was thoughtless and surely there must be some Democrats not beholden to far left ideals. I was finally disabused of that notion when I watched all Democrats everywhere stick up for that filthy, lying rapist Clinton. After that I decided they can all burn and I will never vote for another one. I will hold to that vow until a real conservative Democrat comes forth again. I won't hold my breath.
Temporal Easing, Oct 62nd.. That's good stuff, right there.
ReplyDeleteAs for letting the troops fight viciously, giving them bullets would be a real good start. Hell, NOAA's got 4Million of 'em, or something, right?
@AHD: I too am a conservative, but I lost all hope of any Democrat following the moderate line when Kathy Whitmire (aka "Tootsie") got elected Mayor of Houston and turned the city into a LGBT enclave and a sanctuary city. The majority of conservatives live in Harris County, not Houston, and the LGBT, the entitlement king/queens, and the remnants of the NO projects from Katrina now make up the majority vote - explains how Sheila Jackson Lee keeps getting elected.
ReplyDeleteStilton: Considering how easily these progressive scumbags can disregard actual facts, I would be careful about giving them any ideas as concerns temporal warping. But then, liberals generally have no sense of humor, and irony escapes them completely... so they may not even notice your joke, as it was truly funny.
ReplyDeleteAHD/Sea Dog: Ditto kiddo - with the reservation that one should be mindful of RINOs.
Pete(Detroit): It boggles the mind to consider that a non-law enforcement government entity seems to think it needs ammunition, let alone guns. What scares the crap out of me is the fact that DHS recently purchased over 450 million rounds of .40 caliber hollow point ammunition. They claim it's all for target practice. I would like to believe them, and that they all have really bad aim. But that's enough ammunition to execute every man, woman and child in this country and still have enough left over for 'target practice'. These Nazis are gearing up for something big, and I for one am keeping my ear to the ground.
I do actually care about Oktoberfest … Mrs. Chuck and I are heading to Germany for a couple weeks (leaving tomorrow). I expect to be cut off from the Internet for a large chunk of that time because I refuse to pay their hotel usury-rates for Internet access. I’m hoping that the “October Surprise” we all expect doesn’t happen before we return … I’d like to be in-country when it comes.
ReplyDeleteI still have no great hope that Romney is all that different from Øbama Alan Keyes says it better than I can (and be sure to watch the follow up Vol. 2, also). But I do hope that with VP Ryan, and a “Republican” controlled congress the march to oblivion can be slowed. The thing is, even with all that, we only have 2 years to see real change in a positive direction before we risk losing it all … again. If things don’t turn far enough, fast enough, I fear that all we’ll be buying in this election is a two year reprieve. Unlike Alan Keyes, I do see enough difference to vote against Øbama as the lesser of two evils. That difference is in the future of the Supreme Court. I don’t know what we’ll get with Romney, but we’ve see what kind of “justices” we’ll get with Øbama.
In the grander scheme of things, the current system is most certainly killing us. The 2-party system is rigged and we’re all being played. For this round, I too plan to vote straight ticket: I’ve learned what the left wants and how bad they want it and I aim to do my part to deprive them of it. I’ll vote conservative when I can and Republican when there is no conservative choice. Even a RINO is better than a DINO (see Supreme Court).
Truth is, I’m glad to be getting a break from the pre-election stress for a couple weeks.
Prost!
Mike, you do NOT use hollow points 'for practice' - you run a few of 'em once in a while, make sure they'll run in your gun (due to the 'open' nose, they don't always feed properly) but you use round point (ball) ammo for practice. Near as I can tell, they're buying up all the ammmo to keep it off the streets...
ReplyDeleteAs for '4th quarter fund raisers' I have to wonder how he's doing? Did he hit the projected $1B mark? And, as I said the first time I heard that projection, "if it takes $1B to convince people you're NOT a D-Bag, just HOW big of a D-Bag ARE you?"
I have already cast my absentee ballot for straight Republican ticket. It took 15 minues of my life to make that happen. I just hope it doesn't "vanish" like so many other absentee ballots from service men did 4 years ago.
ReplyDeleteThe bullet comment is "right on target" LOL! I am ready willing and able to defend this country from any and all enemies, both foriegn and domestic.
As a matter of fact I got a real itchy finger the other day as I sat enjoying a cup of joe across from our Vetrans Memorial Park. A trendy college wimp amd his oh so fasionable little twit of a girly saundered up and were looking for a place to sit. I was fine with that until he sneered, "I guess we'll have to sit here across from this monument to the glorification of death and destruction."
It took every ounce of self discipline for me to remain in my seat and not walk over and stomp the little twerp into the pavement for his blatant disrespect for the men and women who gave their lives so he could enjoy the freedom to blaspheme their memory. Sickening what this countrys youth have devolved into! At least the girly looked a little embarassed at his comment. There was that.
Mike Porter/Chuck: I'll use the primaries to cull out the RINO's when I can, but otherwise, it's straight Republican - the specter of a continued Progressive Democrat anything is too scary to contemplate. Romney wasn't my choice, but he's the candidate and I'm behind him 100%.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry. As soon as Romney takes over, every military death (overseas, anyway) will again be heralded nightly. Also, the daily reports and exposés on "the homeless" (which seem to disappear whenever a Democrat is in the White House) will return as well.
ReplyDeleteAs for the dollar, this morning I watched the chairman of the Chicago Fed defend QE-forever; they're just gonna keep printing dollars until jobs start happening. Never mind that this has been fed policy for over a decade now and it still hasn't worked. My grocery bill has gone up over 7%, health care over 15%, property taxes and utilities, fuel, etc, and yet they still don't seem to see any inflation so it's no problem he says. After watching this, I told Mrs. Econ I was going shopping for a new boat this afternoon with the IRA money. Might as well, since it's going to be worthless long before we get to retire.
Over the weekend, the media endlessly reported with glee the supposed news of Romney's impending loss; it's just like 2003 when they kept reporting a non-existent recession in hopes of making one happen. Do notice how the media has mostly dropped Romney's supposed "48%" gaffe. Turns out that that message resonates with the undecided. Ooops.
My only hope is that Romney pushes all of Obama's buttons on Wednesday; Obama mad, and off-teleprompter at the same time is what America needs to see.
I wonder if they'll take food stamps at the Obama Presidential Library? I'd like to find out sooner, than later.
Shouldn't it be "Drizzle turning to Reign"? For what we've had is mere trickle down big gov't. They haven't turned on the hoses, yet.
ReplyDeleteThough, too, we're kind of in Zugzwang. A situation, in Chess, when no matter what you do, you're screwed. If Romney wins and the economy collapses, or just not fixed, it'll be his fault; the next Obamian waits in the wings, to reap that harvest, I'm sure.
And if Obama wins and the economy collapses the press and prez will say it's Bush's fault. But the majority of people will finally see the emperor is naked. Though there will still be significant hordes to blame Bush and Republicans in general, of course.
You know, sometimes it's better to let a barn collapse, than to worry about painting and propping it up.
@Jim Hlavac,
ReplyDeleteDon't forget the other option... Romney wins and the economy improves. In which case, the media narrative will be that "Obama's reforms finally worked, and we need to get the next Democrat back in quick before things get bad again."
Here where I live there were many of us who yesterday had a day of prayer and fasting in behalf of Mitt Romney. Please, whatever your belief or faith, pray with great fervor for divine providence to be with Mitt--especially during the debates. Pray for this nation! And let's do all we can to boot out the maniacs who are now in office before we reach the point of no return!
ReplyDelete@Colby- When Mrs. Jarlsberg and I attended 2016, it was much the same - the audience was mostly old people and their parents (as the old joke goes). I'm hoping that 2016 will somehow become available for everyone to see without cost before the election.
ReplyDelete@Emmentaler- I don't know anything about hunting with a bow, but if the election goes the wrong way I'll definitely be upgrading my survival skills.
@Angry Hoosier Dad- I'm sure there are some good Democrats out there, but when they continue to vote as a block with their bad compatriots, they've simply got to go. I largely look at the GOP as having "one last chance" to start getting things right by allowing the Tea Party to grow from within - instead of forcing it to become a third party.
@Pete(Detroit)- The hollow-point ammo for NOAA is only to be used for cloud seeding.
@SeaDog- It's one thing to look for a needle in a haystack, but trying to locate a good Democrat is like looking for a Baby Ruth bar in a mountain of sh*t. It's just not worth the trouble.
@Mike Porter- I have no doubt that the "temporal easing" joke would be completely lost on libs.
Regarding the stockpiling of ammo by domestic agencies, be careful that when you have your ear to the ground you don't get shot it the ass.
@Chuck- Okay, Oktoberfest in Germany sounds pretty good. Regarding your lack of enthusiasm for Mitt, I don't expect miracles out of the man - but his choice of Ryan meant a lot to me, and he's been good about saying a lot of the right things (and not just "safe" things) on the campaign trail. Of course, I'd crawl over broken glass to vote against Obama no matter who was running against him.
And of course, the Supreme Court is perhaps the most important issue on the table. In a second term, Obama could choose as many as 4 new justices - and that, my friends, is game over for America.
@Pete(Detroit)- It's my understanding, too, that hollow points aren't really standard for target practice. They're more for causing maximum damage to the human body - not paper targets.
@Necron99- There are already stories cropping up about absentee ballots for our service members going missing. Color me pissed.
I would hate to see politics turning to actual street violence in our country. That being said, I'd hate even more to see an armed, governmental crackdown on our citizenry which couldn't be defended against. I'm not guessing that Texas (my proud home state) would be on the top of any takeover list.
Your story about the young a-hole stirred me up, but I calmed myself by imagining the hot streams of tears running down his cheeks when Obama loses the election.
@SeaDog- Same strategy here: go as conservative as possible in the primaries, then vote against the Dems on election day.
@John the Econ- There are so many nasty stories out there that it's easy for something like the devaluation of the dollar to get lost in the fog. But as you know, the dollar is taking it in the teeth - and "QE Forever" is sheer insanity. Like you, I'm wondering what I should buy with my formerly-retirement bucks while they still have some value.
@Jim Hlavac- My (hopeful) thought was that Obama's four-year reign/rain was fading into mere drizzle.
Regarding Zugzwang, which is a phrase I've never used before, I believe we'll be less screwed under Romney no matter HOW the media characterizes it.
Moreover, the advice about letting the barn collapse only works if you're not in the barn at the time.
@txGreg- That's exactly the line they'll take.
Amen, Cookie!
ReplyDeleteStilton, I always recommend investing in precious metals. Popular calibers being .45, .38, .357, 9mm, and .22. Shortly after the election when people were buying guns and ammo faster than they could be made and prices shot WAY up. I actually saw people who had none bartering w/ people who *did* have some. It WILL become a commodity...
ReplyDeleteMight want to investigate buying your own 'iron' before the end of the month too - If *he* wins again, expect prices to double, again, while they are available... Just sayin'..
I wouldn't worry too much @txGreg; Even if Romney wins, it will be quite some time until the economy revives to any significant degree. His election only stops Obama and the Democrats from doing more damage. It does nothing to remediate the damage done; mainly the trillions of dollars of worthless money printed, millions of people permanently added to the "47%". The moment that the economy starts moving (people actually hiring and investing), inflation is going to slam us in the face, as real goods and services are not there to match the dollars that have been printed to purchase them. This will tangle the economy in a catch-22 for quite some time; probably well into the 2016 election season where Romney will get the blame.
ReplyDeleteI would love to send this message to the 47% Romeny was referring to:
ReplyDeleteGood day, America. Allow me first to apologize for this interruption. I do, like you, appreciate the comforts of every day routine - the security of the familiar, the tranquility of repetition. I enjoy them as much as any person. But in the spirit of commemoration, thereby those important events of the past usually associated with someone's death or the end of some awful bloody struggle, a celebration of a nice holiday, I thought we could mark this November the 6th, a day that is sadly no longer remembered, by taking some time out of our daily lives to sit down and have a little chat. There are of course those who do not want us to speak. I suspect even now, orders are being shouted into telephones, and men with guns will soon be on their way. Why? Because while the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth. And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have political correctness censors, special interest groups, and governmental systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. I know why you did it. I know you were afraid. Who wouldn't be? War, terrorism, the economy. There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. Fear got the best of you, and in your panic you turned to the now President of America, Barrack Obama. He promised you hope, he promised you change, and all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent. I seek to end that silence. I strive, to remind this country of what it has forgotten. More than two hundred years ago great citizens wished to embed the sixth of November forever in our memory. Their hope was to remind the world that fairness, justice, and freedom are more than words, they are perspectives. So if you've seen nothing, if the crimes of this Democrat controlled government remain unknown to you then I would suggest you allow the sixth of November to pass unmarked. But if you see what I see, if you feel as I feel, and if you would seek as I seek, then I ask you to stand beside me on the sixth of November, at the voting booth and cast your ballot for straight Republican ticket, and together we shall give the Liberal Socialist Democrats a sixth of November that shall never, ever be forgot.
@Cookie- Amen to that.
ReplyDelete2016 will be out on DVD October 16, but... You can lead a Liberal to the DVD player, but you can't make him watch. Still, perhaps a good portion of the "I'm not gonna vote because all politicians are crooked" dumb-asses will see it, and think twice about their idiotic stance.
ReplyDeletePerhaps Mr. D'Sousa could make a deal with the devil and have the movie aired smack dab in the middle of whatever mindless TV programs are popular at the moment. "We're inturrupting this episode of "Men Married to Each Other" to bring you some sanity...."
@Cookie,
I'll add an Amen to Pete's and Stilton's amens!
Stilton - Obamasutra & it's 57 ways was a most creative book. I loved the references to all things Obama but with a slant toward sexuality. You are truly a gifted word-man! I read it with gusto!
ReplyDeleteI, too, awaken during the night with thoughts of O winning this critical election & feel it's too long before we get our chance to change so we can hope. So much hope is with Romney - hope he can make it happen.
I know, I know Stilt. The Election Ain't Over Till It's Over. But I really think that Romney will win. Check the doubts about the current polls. Seriously, even conservatives, who didn't believe in a McCain win in 2008, are skeptical :

Stilt, I think you have hit on a problem in your commentary today that I am having...I have followed this unreal campaign of lies and deceit so much in the last couple of years, not counting the time since O took office....I have felt this anxiety for a couple weeks now, just want to get th is thing over with! Bout to drive me nuts!
ReplyDeleteMy speech to the "47%":
ReplyDeleteYour real problem isn't that I, one of the net-producers funding your consumption, am against you. Your real problem is when I get to the point of saying "screw it all", and I join you.
John, as always, eloquent and succinct.
ReplyDeleteStilton, there is NO WAY that I was sanctioning ANY violent action against anyone. however,I have talked to enough people that feel that a revolution is coming in this country. they would prefer it to be non-violent, but are ready, willing, and able if the situation turns a bit "harsh". I once took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign AND domestic. I have not rescinded that oath, but am not NEAR ready to declare hostilities against the president. I will exhaust ALL civil means to remove that man from office.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous, I too think there will be a "revolution" here, and I think it's already happening. Except it's not going to be the kind of violent uprising people typically think of.
ReplyDeleteThe "revolution" is going to be nearly silent, and most people, even our leaders, aren't going to realize that it is even happening. It's what I call the "Atlas Shrugged" scenario; The net producers are going to go on strike and stop producing. They are going to refuse to be slaves to those who think they are entitled to the labor of others. They'll do what they need to do to get by and little more until this nation wakes up.
Oh, there will likely be violence, but it won't be by those behind this silent revolution. It will be by acolytes of the looters, seeking ways to force those who are on strike to revert to being their slaves. It will not work. The dated Marxist model from the industrial revolution doesn't apply anymore.
The soft bigotry of low expectations: In anticipation of tomorrow evening's presidential debate, I have now seen several media reports stating that Obama is "out of practice since he hasn't debated in 4 years" and is "tired" as he prepares to go up against Romney.
ReplyDeleteWe already know that "the world's greatest orator" becomes clueless when without a teleprompter, and that his last debate performance was against a meek McCain. Is the Obama campaign setting us up to expect a poor performance or are they sandbagging?
I think they realize that if the O-bots expect him to soar like an eagle, and he ends up getting hit by a bus, they might be freaked out a bit. Otoh, if they're expectign him to be hit by a train, and it's only a bus, they're pleased "Did better than I expected!"
ReplyDeleteSame applies to $3 movies - you pay foull price for a movie that's "worth" $3, you feel ripped off. You see the same movie at the Dollar Show, and it's a Great deal.
(Yes, I'm comparing the President to a poorly made piece of Hollywood fluff - any problems w/ that?)
(and yeah, shortening my 'handle' when posting from work. Home PC remembers who I am, here I have to type it all in - heck w/ that)
@Colby- You're right that there probably aren't any liberals who would have their minds changed by the film "2016." They're already living in a state of "off the charts" denial. But just maybe a few undecideds might be influenced (though don't even start me on my opinion of those who are still undecided after 3 1/2 years of president fustercluck).
ReplyDelete@Irene Peduto - Glad you enjoyed the book. I know some people won't care for the book's minimal sexual content, but you can't exactly do a parody of the Kama Sutra without "going there."
Regarding the election, at this point I'm truly trying to give myself over to hope; I don't want to look at polls or hear the latest spin from the media. I simply want to believe that things can get better. If November hands us a different reality, a hope-less one, I'll deal with that when we get there.
@Phillip- Good links. As the X-Files used to say "The truth is out there."
@Necron99- Excellent! Plenty of red meat in there, but I particularly liked "He promised you hope, he promised you change, and all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent. I seek to end that silence." Hopefully, we'll hear this line spoken during the debate on Wednesday. Surely someone on Mitt's staff must be a Hope n' Change reader.
@Anonymous- Long distance runners try desperately to set an exact pace which is sustainable for the whole distance...because when they put on that final burst of speed, it's going to put a huge amount of stress on their system. I think that's how a lot of us feel as the finish line for this four-year nightmare comes into view.
@John the Econ- I just had a lovely fantasy of millions of Obamaphones ringing at once, the owners checking the caller ID, and asking "Who John Galt?"
@Anonymous- I know you weren't advocating any violence. But since the word "bullet" probably puts us on Homeland Security's radar, I wanted to make sure there was a record clarifying where we all stand on things. And just to make sure I'm clearly understood, the more the government tries to take away our first amendment rights, the more important our second amendment rights become. You and I are on exactly the same page.
@John the Econ- I agree that there will be an "Atlas Shrugged" scenario, but it probably won't be an organized movement. It will simply be producers finally admitting that the game is rigged and they can't win, so they might as well leave the table and enjoy life a little bit. We're already seeing this play out in the medical field, and in businesses that just don't want to deal with governmental edicts anymore.
Regarding Obama being "out of practice" for debating, I call bullshit. Debating is simply answering questions, which the president should have been doing on a daily basis. If he's "out of practice" it's because he chose not to subject himself to any questions tougher than those that come from The View, David Letterman, or The Pimp with a Limp.
@Pete D- "Managing expectations" is all more spin, and I've already been spun so much that I'm about to projectile vomit. But man I hope Obama looks like roadkill after the debate.
And I like your analogy about the dollar movie theater. That's about the only place I can even watch movies these days, because after dropping $20 for two tickets and a box of popcorn, I'm already too pissed off to enjoy even a good movie.
@Pete D - where can you find a $3 movie? All we have around here are the Movie Tavern's (at least the only ones you would risk your health and safety in).
ReplyDeleteGoing to the poll brew-ha-ha. I seriously think that the polls are skewed in Obama's favor right now, but expect 'correcting' polls the week before, because no polling organization wants to blow it that bad - not good for future business. My favorite was the one yesterday that their own staffer forced them to publish the base after lauding Obama as a double digit lead - only had 160 respondents and was weighted D+9.
My next question is to the vast unpaid research department - has anyone or does anyone know of somebody that was actually polled? I know I never have been despite being on the jury pool list, registered voter, etc., I would think that somewhere in my 40+ years of voting I would have gotten at least one call/letter (and I'm not referring to the 'poll questionnaires from the RNC/DNC' that just 'happen' to include a donation pledge - like Publisher's Clearing House, you gotta suspect that if you don't subscribe you're going in the trash).
I truly believe there is a large undercurrent in this country that is being missed, a 'silent majority' if you will. The Tea Party has gone 'underground', effecting their change through the ballot box in 2010 and in the 2012 primaries - many incumbent has lost their job. There is also a vast majority that says to throw them all out and start fresh - term limits by ballot. One reason I believe this is that my wife works for a health insurance company in their clinical review dept and talks to people all over the US. She never comes out and asks, but in conversation, has found very few that have said they are voting for Obama.
Just breaking on local radio, and pretty much anecdotal at this point, but as to polls and skewing - several folks report havign come home to answering machine w/ message indicating they had been 'sampled'. Even tho they were not responding, the poll ended w/ 'thank you for your support for President Obama. In other words, silence / no response is scored as support for Obama. Certainly explains the crazy numbers if only the Romney supporters who are actually home are scored for Romney...
ReplyDeleteSeaDog - I have, actually, been home to take the call a time or two - not often I'll admit. D/RNC "questionnaires" Fall into the category of wad the original envelope into the reply one, and add sand for weight. Indicate my displeasure at the questions they think *I* think are important, and my refusal to donate dime one to national group, when they give to candidates that disgust me. They may not bother to read it, But I feel better, and it costs them a little extra postage.
ReplyDeleteAs for cheap movies, there are a few "dollar sho" theaters in the area that play 3-6 month old releases (less, for crappy ones that don't sit well in theater). Not so well maintained, perhaps, but Ok, and CHEAP. And some stuff just really wants to be seen on the big screen. Might not be a bad business plan, if you were looking for a career change... If there are none near you, sounds like a ripe market!
Pheh! I will not go to a theater to see a movie. I see that in the same light in which I see subscribing to the socialist propaganda rags they call "news"papers: aiding and abetting the enemy. If I feel the need to see a movie, I'll wait for it to hit cable, or borrow the dvd from someone else. I want to limit to the extreme minimum any of MY money that the socialists - and those bastard closet conservatives who play like the vichy french of WWII to survive rather than, at the very least, counter balance all the drooling, brain-dead aparatchiks spouting their anti-American BS on the rather tarnished silver screen - get. (Pant, pant... That was a hard to write as it is to read. Another tangent sent spinning off...)
ReplyDeleteI've been called several times this year for various polls IO
Ahhhhhhhhhhrrrrrrrggggghhh! I HATE fat fingers! That last got away from me only partially digested.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I have been called SEVERAL times for various polls. I use caller ID to screen, and several have been very, very persistent, so I'd eventually answer their calls. Most have focused on the ejection, er, "election" of Stabmenow. A few have touched on Øbama. They hate me, though, as I tend to expound on their particular wording of a question. I realize the operator probably had little to do with that, but if I'm going to invest the time to answer their questions, they can invest the time in hearing me dissect their poll. It makes me fell better, anyway...
An article that I cannot lay my finger on at the moment pointed out that it seems the DNC has abandoned all of the lesser races, seeing the need only to finance the re-election of Øbama. After all: he has already demonstrated that he can circumvent congress and the supreme court. They no longer find the need to CARE whether any of their senators or representatives make it back in. It was an interesting perspective, and nicely fits my image of how the democratic socialists would operate: all the little henchmen being left to twist in the wind as their "elite" reach for the ultimate prize...
@Stilton,
ReplyDelete20 bucks?! When Mrs. Colby and I went to 2016, we shelled out $20 for the tickets, then another $14 for a large popcorn and drink to share. And, by the way, I have absolutely no problem shelling out money to support Dinesh D'Sousa.
@SeaDog,
I've already answered 4 polls and have likely not answered a few more that I just let ring. The questions were pretty straightforward, so I think all four were independents, not from campaigns. A friend on mine got polled by what we think was the obama campaign. A couple of the questions:
1) Are you a Democrat, Socialist, or a mud sucking capitalist pig Republican?
2) Are you African American, Hispanic, or a racist?
3) Are you going to vote for Barack Obama, or the cancer causing, tax cheat, rich asshole Romney?
4) When Barack Obama is re-elected will you, a) Go outside and holler and do a fist pump, b) Call everybody you know and say "WHOO-HOO! Free shit on the way!", or c) Lock yourself in the bathroom and do a personal "fist pump" with a picture of HRH Barack Obama?
Hope and Change HNC
ReplyDeleteObama came up with this in 1985 when he was on hopps and cocaine!
