Sitting On Their Asteroids

obama, obama jokes, dinosaurs, fiscal cliff, asteroid, stilton jarlsberg, hope and change

It increasingly seems like it's all over but the screaming with regards to Americans' hopes of not going over the so-called fiscal cliff. But there's plenty of screaming.

After failing to pass a budget since, roughly speaking, the Lincoln administration (which is largely how we got into this current mess) Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid complained that the Republicans weren't doing their jobs...and, apparently forgetting to use Obama's "words that heal instead of wound," accused House Speaker John Boehner of being a "dictator."

Perhaps because, much like Hitler, Boehner allowed Representatives to go home for Christmas where they're "out watching movies and watching their kids play soccer and basketball and doing all kinds of things" while waiting for any Democrat to make even a marginally serious offer to address our nation's fiscal woes.

Meanwhile, the mainstream media is doing its best to put pressure on the Republicans. Only the Republicans. The NY Post, for instance, suggests that raising taxes on all Americans and implementing forced spending cuts will result in "financial Hell for every American," a new recession, and a "criminal jump in unemployment." We're not sure if rivers will also run with blood and the skies fill with locusts, but it's certainly possible if Republicans keep watching their kids play soccer and basketball instead of handing those same kids a few more trillion dollars in debt. (Note: the GOP is expected to return to Washington on Sunday, assuming there are no good football games on TV or gun shows to attend.)

With consequences so horrorific, you'd think the NY Post might take the advice of a financial expert like, oh, Barack Obama who said in 2009 that "the last thing you want to do is to raise taxes in the middle of a recession" - especially on those job creators with incomes of  $200,000 or more. Because this is the one thing that the president insists is a non-negotiable issue, despite the fact that experts predict that this, too, will cause recession and job loss - while making no impact on our deficit whatsoever.

Indeed, Barack Hussein Obama's only goal with his kamikaze fiscal cliff policy is to punish the evil rich and cripple their ability to do business. The fact that it will also create financial Hell for everyone else is simply a bonus in his pea-sized, Socialist brain.

  1. That's a double knee slapper today, Mr. Jarlsberg! When I saw that dickweed Reid on TV yesterday blathering about Boehner being a dictator, I wanted to slap him sooooo badly! Really, Harry? BOEHNER is the dictator? There are already bills (sitting under a substantial layer of dust under Prince Harry's desk) that the House sent to him to prevent this mess, but a certain "dictator" won't bring them up for vote. The ass-wipe has not presented a budget for over 1,300 days. Grrr...

Is it not unconstitutional for us to have a one man Senate? I mean, even if the country only had one state, we would still have TWO Senators. I know little of the mechanisms of the federal gubmint, so somebody please tell me... is there not some way to make this waste of oxygen do his damn job and force his ass to take a vote on bills that are already there? Why the EFF do we suddenly find ourselves living in a country run by two socialist assholes?

    Whew... done ranting now.

  2. Could this possibly be more depressing? And just think - if the freakin' Mayans had gotten things right, we wouldn't be having to go through this. I think about my business prospects in 2013, and I begin to wish I had gotten that Glock as my Christmas present. I rely on those $200K+ people for my livelihood (as do all of the vendors I in turn use to buy materials and trade work). Mine is a well-to-do college town, overwhelmingly Democrat who landslid Fearless Leader in for another 12 years. I guarantee you: these elitists will be the first to cut back on expenditures. No big deal for them... New kitchen? Maybe next year. New master bath? "Oh honey, let's wait a couple of years until I get tenure."

Guess I should be thankful that Dear One has at least proclaimed that my group health insurance rates will be going down. Sh!t, after all, I wouldn't want to lose my health!

  3. @Grafton Cheddar,
I hear ya! I work for a company owned by a small group of wealthy guys, and it's a great place to work. However, they also own a plant in China. Right now, it's profitable to have plants in both locations, but what happens if these guys taxes go up by a few million? I'll turn 61 this year... to damn old to get a job anywhere... who the hell would hire me? Buck Ofama & Ruck Feid!

  4. @Colby- I'm in complete agreement about Reid being a waste of space, food, air, and generous perks. Let's keep in mind that the sequestration cuts (a significant part of the fiscal cliff) were created because the Dems wouldn't make any budget cuts or even have a serious discussion about it. And now that the cuts are upon us, they're still refusing to talk about anything other than raising taxes for purely political (not fiscal) reasons.

@Grafton Cheddar- I spent time yesterday selling stocks (and locking in losses) from my retirement portfolio under the belief that the market will tank under the weight of the new Obama Recession 2.0. I don't foresee this country as being good for business again for a long, long time. Including, quite possibly, "ever."

And as for health insurance costs, mine have skyrocketed thanks to the "Affordable Care Act." Thanks, Barry!

@Colby- Good news! If you get laid off, Barry will make sure you get unemployment benefits for two years. And after that, just two more years of going hungry before you can qualify for Social Security! Unless, of course, you still have anything left in the bank - because means-testing will surely be in place by then.

@Ben Dover- And remember to do some warm up stretches before grabbing your ankles, because you're going to be down there a long time.

  5. @Colby - I know. Maybe my impending depression will qualify me for disability. It seems to work for everyone else!

@Stilton - As for "health insurance", yes: I would not be surprised if my group rate has not doubled since The Won took office, while the benefits have been cut back so much that they would not be suitable for my dogs. I blame it on my demographic - 62 and still trying to make a living! As Kinky said, "Too young for Medicare, too old for women to care."

  7. Personally, I'm elated. I'm hoping for a massive drop in the stock market as a buying opportunity. (I'd much rather own stock than cash with inflation coming) And I don't have a problem with seeing the sainted "middle class" hit with $3000 to $4000 or more in tax increases next week. Perhaps only then people will wake up and get serious about the real problem: Boundless spending. The media is endlessly spinning the narrative that it's the GOP that will pay a price for this. I don't think so.

Oh, and it looks like my Christmas present came a little late this year: Seems Lisa Jackson of the EPA had a secret e-mail account, created specifically to evade accountability and "sunlight" laws. Contained are conversations about the Obama Administration's war on coal and carbon taxes. Par for the course from the "most transparent administration".

Once again we have been served up a fine rendition of a dumbocrat pot (Hairy Reed) calling the kettle black. Anyone with a modicum of study in the field of psychology will immediately recognize this socialist libtards statement as little thing called 'projection'.

How dares this over stuffed empty shirt of a plutocrat call Boehner "a dictator", when over a month ago the REAL DICTATOR pronounced that he would reject all offers from Republicans that didn't mirror his asinine plan to destroy the economy, increase debt, raise taxes, and raise insurance rates?

Furthermore, how dare he reference the members of the House spending a few moments of the holidays with their family as "not doing their jobs" when the REAL DICTATOR/VACATIONER IN CHIEF bugged out to the Sandwich Islands for a billion dollars tax payer funded junket?

It boggles the mind how these socio-tards ever got any support from the working class. Welfare slackers & college brats still sucking off their parents teat I can understand... But anyone with an iota of common sense should be able to see through these moonbat phonies and should be howling for their blood.

  9. @John the Econ,
You are very likely correct in predicting that a good old fashioned cliff fall will finally wake up the slumbering idiots, but what about those of us who saw it coming and campaigned frantically to stop it by electing some adults? We are equally as screwed. Still, if that's what it takes to get this once great country back on track and being run by patriots instead of pinheads (thanks O'Reilly), bring it on. I am also fully ready to gloat my ass off.

Also, that news about Lisa Jackson is a real shocker! Who'da thunk it!

  10. It should be a criminal act when politicians value their agendas over the needs of the country.

Common sense has been trampled by political correctness and personal goals.

  11. @Colby, I really don't know what to tell you, other than that I know how you feel. I've been warning people about the "fiscal cliff" for nearly 30 years now. I actually foresaw the mortgage debt crisis in the late '80s. (although my prediction was regional, not national) Since the dot-com crash in 2000, I've endlessly warned that most attempts to "fix" the economy would only make it worse.

The sad reality is that there are just too many people who are dependent upon the status-quo and are too afraid of the alternative to go there. So they just don't care. They'll gladly ride over the cliff because they can't conceive of doing anything else.

  12. I would love to make some profound comment about this, but the mind-numbing idiocy and hypocrisy of Reid, 0 bamma, and the rest of their ilk have given me a case of permanent brain fart.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Well I finally found a silver lining in this mess.
I won't have to pay for the doctor to check my prostate.

    Two thumbs up!
Maybe you could make bumper stickers?
I'm sure there is a market for our sentiments.

  15. @Grafton Cheddar- My health insurance costs as much as a modest new car, and doesn't cover anything at all (thanks to an over $10k deductible). And I'm in your same demographic, baffling people who wonder why I even want to work when there are so many government programs around to take care of me if I'll only admit defeat.

@Jim Hlavac- And as long as the Left is using the language of terrorism (the House Minority Whip says that the Republicans basically have taken America's children hostage and are going to shoot them), I'll say that what the Dems remind me of are suicide bombers. They want the bomb to go off, believing it will lead to eternal nookie. Obama, in particular, has no reason to make a deal because the destructive qualities of the fiscal cliff are what he most wants for America.

@John the Econ- That's why I'm selling the stocks I've been holding for retirement. If the market crashes, I can buy them back later. And like you, I'm pretty much ready for a lot of Obama supporters to get kicked in the ass by a major increase in taxes when the (ahem) BUSH tax cuts expire.

And I hadn't heard about Lisa Jackson's secret email account yet - I'll have to check that out. She's been a disaster for this country, crippling business with regulatory edicts which were never discussed or voted on by our representatives.

@Necron99- Reid's hypocrisy is stunning and disgusting. He has repeatedly said that he won't work with the GOP on anything, and damned if he hasn't stuck to his word. I try not to actually hate anyone, but Whorehouse Harry is pretty high on my list of people whom I really, really, really dislike.

@Colby- Yes, we'll all get hurt, but it's time to "spread the pain" and make people aware that bills have to get paid...and the rich can't do it all by themselves, even at gunpoint.

@Goldenrod- It certainly is a criminal act in the moral sense, if not the strictly legalistic one.

And I'm not sure that common sense is all that common anymore.

That's IT! That's MY demographic exactly!

Except I'm trying to MAKE it to 62 if I can't convince the Social Security people that a semi-paralyzed leg is TOO a disability. (Anyone out there want to hire a service technician that falls down occasionally?)

We can't do anything to stop the plunge over the cliff, all we can do is figure out how to ride it out.

  17. And yeah, I pulled my money out of the market in late September, right after it peaked and parked it in the bank. Just for the reasons you guys have stated.

Odd that the market took four years to get back to where it was before the eee-ville George Bush left office.

  18. @Rickn8or - Several times in the past couple of years I would have hired you, but thanks to Big Guy's policies, I never felt I could count on how much I would be paying for the honor of taking on a hard worker. Now, of course, I would be laying you off. Apologies in advance!

  19. To lighten the mood...
Bill Clinton, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid were driving through Oklahoma when a giant tornado blew the car to the Land of Oz.

Nancy said, "I'm going to ask the Wizard for a heart." Harry said, "I'm going to ask the Wizard for a brain." Bill said, "Where's Dorothy?"

  20. Great cartoon, as usual. Depressing commentary, though (although probably all too accurate). The role of the media in downplaying (hell, make that covering up) the leftists role in all this cannot be overstated.

@Grafton Cheddar - Love the Kinky reference. I'm with you in the same demographic.

@Colby - re: lightening the mood ... The situation is so bad Al Qaeda is claiming credit for it!

    ReplyDelete
  21. @rickn8or- Well, we're all in the same leaky boat. And hey, maybe I should file for disability - I've got an almost entirely paralyzed sense of hope.

@rickn8or- Man, I wish I'd pulled some money out in September. My stocks have declined (in some cases precipitously) because people wanted to get out before the capital gains taxes went up. I waited too long - ouch.

@Grafton Cheddar- I don't think anyone is going to be hiring anyone. Except the gummint, of course.

    @Colby- And Toto, too.

@CenTexTim- These days the news is so bad that all I can do is try to say horrible things in a funny way.

And as always, the MSM makes my blood boil. There can be neither meaningful freedom nor democracy in this country as long as people are marinating in lies.

But, all this blather about these idiots is kinda pointless when you consider the SUPER-idiots that voted them all back in again! It undoubtedly will take a lot of pain before folks everywhere in this great nation start to realize where their pain is coming from! And, it is just about to really start! Like Stilt said, do some stretching exercises before you bend of, we'll be in that position for quite a while!

  25. Il Douche, the BlightBringer threatened to use the State of the Union speech to blame everything on the Republicans if they didn't compromise and do everything his way. Okay, if that's how he wants to play it, on his very first lie, they should all, Representative and Senator, rise to their feet and start chanting, "You lie!"
In fact, rise to their feet, turn their backs on him, and chant, "You lie!" Maybe even a mass mooning.

  26. @American Cowboy- Sorry not to give you a salute earlier; it seems like your comments didn't post earlier. Or, um, maybe I missed them!

@Grafton Cheddar- You said a mouthful.

@rickn8or- Theoretically, the gummint is making "special outreach" to make sure that people with disabilities can get jobs. Unfortunately, they've put you at the end of a long line of people with "disabilities" like poor people skills and the inability to show up for work on time. No, really.

@PRY- I blame the idiot voters for electing these people, I blame the MSM for making sure that voters stay idiots, and I blame the politicians for giving the MSM the raw fodder with which to lie. It's basically a circle jerk.

Damn, do _I_ feel like a chump.

    ReplyDelete
  28. @rickn80r- Almost anyone can be considered disabled, which punishes the truly disabled most of all by using up the resources they actually need.

Among the disabilities the Labor Department recognizes are cancer, heart disease, clinical depression, significant trouble standing, sitting, reaching, lifting, bending, reading, concentrating, thinking, communicating, or interacting with others. And oh, how I wish I was making that up.

  33. It makes me feel like an idiot for working all these years, raising my kids as a single mother without government help, using my own money to put my kids through school, and generally being responsible for my own upkeep . My ex-sister-in-law is a heroin addict who has never worked a day in her life and is on full disability (at age 40) for "depression". Her 16-year-old daughter is pregnant, and the baby's father wants to put it up for adoption. But grandma wants to keep it because the household income will increase. Can you imagine the future this poor child will have? I'm sure "grandma" would have voted for Barry if she hadn't had to go to the methadone clinic that day.

BTW - my ex -husband ("grandma's" brother) is a democrat who is a big Barry supporter. He would love to get disability for his HIV-positive status. That was his first reaction 18 years ago when he was first diagnosed - that and running up 100k in credit card debt, thinking he wouldn't live long enough to pay it back. Luckily when we divorced, I only had to pay HALF of his debt. Funny how democrats all think alike!

But I know where you're coming from and frequently feel the same way about why I've tried to shoulder individual responsibility in a world that too often neither respects or rewards it. But it's still the right thing to do.

I'm sorry for your family situation; those folks sound like they were put on Earth to be a bad example to instruct the rest of us. Although maybe their purpose was fulfilled by voting for Barry; these are confusing times.

@Grafton Cheddar- Thank you for clarifying the matter scientifically.

  37. Wow! I read the cartoon & commentary along with all of posts and recognize truth when I see it. Common sense, though, is another matter. I believe it was Thomas Paine who said that, "Common sense isn't too common" - how can it be when O was re-elected by the low-information voters who demonstrated a complete lack of common sense.

    ReplyDelete
  38. @Irene, A complete lack of "Common Sense" wasn't the only element in play that got these worthless turdz elevated to high office by their depraved and benighted electorate. As you reminded us, Thomas Paine so astutely pointed out, "Common sense isn't too common."

    And it never has been.

Common Sense is an inborn trait that a person developes, and with the right mentors, can be nurtured. The vast majority who don't have it (Common Sense) are content to be led down the garden path by a pedagogy who promises them security, stability, and comfort with no effort on their part to attain it.

Common Sense is something inherent in your make up at the genetic level, you either have it, or you don't. But that isn't to say that through trial and error one who's capable but may not have a well developed 'Common Sense Gene' can't eventually come around to seeing the light on the Road to Damasks, so to speak.

No, the problem with the masses of Lazy Grasshoppers is that for decades now clear thinking and self determination have been sytematicaly discouraged by every socialist institution; from the Department of Education, to the Mainstream Media, to the Arts & Entertainment Sector.

Generations of subtle and radical indoctrination and promises of 'Equality' have dumbed down and atrophied the Common Sense Gene that made American Exceptionally possible.

Orwell was right, "All men are created equal, but some are more equal than others."

The socialist agenda to reduce the 'Exceptional' to the same level as the average, the mediocre, and the substandard has gained more ground in the last four years than in the last four decades. Even the vast majority of 'Urban Conservatives' I know are morons when it comes down to the brass tacks of Common Sense.

    But there is still hope...

As times become more desperate the weak will fall by the wayside and be trampled under the feet of the determined. Common Sense will survive because it is in essence 'The Survival Gene'. Its what gives one person the edge over another.

As my old Irish Grand ad used to say, "Son, there comes a time in every mans life when being able to bullshit your way through a situation stops working and actually knowing what you're doing counts for everything. So its better to just know what your doing and leave all the bullshitting to fools."

While a sad fact, there are a great many fools...

Unlike the wretched secular humanist socialists, who believe free will and exceptionalism is the cause of all human woe, I believe it is what defines us and makes us great. These libtards have gone to great lengths to stifle and control it. To destroy the ability to exercise 'Common Sense". To reduce us all to the same level as the mindless consumers of junk food mediocrity they prey upon and cannot exist without.

Call me harsh, call me extreme, Hell, even call me Fascist...
But in my humble opinion, we would be better off as a species without them.
All of them. The leaders and the led alike.

    ReplyDelete
  39. @Necron99 - Wow! Such an incredible reply to the subject of Common Sense. Call me fascist, too, because I so agree with your understanding of the liberals.
I was once a secular, humanist who thought of herself as a forward-thinking, progressive individual who was so free of the bondage of religion & that old, out-dated Constitution - I really did think that I knew better than those stuck-in-the-past Republicans.
I guess that's why I see so clearly now the error of my ways & the early teachings of family, environment, & schooling (we were all loyal Democrats - in THAT we were united).
My mother was my mentor who passed down Common Sense & morality via fables, explanation of real-life examples of errors, & an assurance that God was part of my life if only through Sunday schools & study for the sacraments. I think those are the reasons I made it out of sheep-hood & Plato's Cave and into reality.
While reality is harsher than my previous stance in politics, I prefer to be informed & really enlightened - like the rest of my fellows on this blog. Maybe we can still be the light of truth in the not-too-distant future.
