Once again, American taxpayers are the wind beneath Michelle Obama's wings - this time flying her to China, along with every female member of her immediate family except Barack.
Theoretically, this is a Spring Break trip for the Obama girls, Sushi and Malaria, which will allow them to learn about China. Although so far, it sounds like the main thing they've learned is that hotel rooms in China cost $8000 a night, but the working class chumps back home will be picking up the tab.
The girls are also learning about dignity, humility, and respect for other cultures by observing the exact opposite in their grandmother's ongoing efforts to make the hotel staff in Beijing miserable with her unending demands. Presumably, the same ridiculous demands which are readily slavishly met while she's living in luxury on the taxpayer dime at the White House (a change of status and address which probably represented the first time in her adult life that she was proud to be an American).
While in China, the First Lady is giving speeches which encourage China to allow unfettered Internet access (presumably so that the Chinese people can be added to her husband's fundraising email lists) and the free flow of information. But you'll just have to take our word for that, because American reporters were banned from the trip to prevent information from flowing freely.
And although Mrs. Obama has said that she won't be addressing human rights abuses (because her daughters certainly shouldn't be learning anything about an archaic subject like human rights) she is hoping to reduce the current tensions between the Chinese government and the Uighurs. Specifically, she's encouraging Chinese authorities to stop calling the Muslim ethnic group "Uighurs" and go with the much friendlier "Uig-gahs."
Still, Hope n' Change can't begrudge the Obama daughters their wildly expensive "educational" trip. After all, with their own eyes (and watching their own family) they're getting lessons in hypocrisy, ingratitude, wretched extravagance, and an unearned sense of entitlement. Everything they need to learn to someday have political careers of their own.
The alledged daughters of the man whose name is alledgedly Barack Obama and the alledged woman who is alledgedly his wife deserve an alledged educational trip for the alledged reason of promoting greater understanding of an alledged rising world power and alledged trade partner.
ReplyDeleteOnce again I am assuming they will be returned to us after this extravaganza to complain about the trip. But still I have fantasies of something going right. Pictures of them captured and sold to farmers in the wilds of China, forced to carry honey buckets barefooted through the rice paddies, hitched in yoke with the oxen dragging plows through the swamps. Doing something useful for once.
ReplyDeleteStilton: my Mondays are so much funnier since you came along. Thanks for the start up
ReplyDeleteThe gross thing about this junket, and all political junkets is that all that is learned is propaganda by the ruling party ... which the politicians of this country at every level slobber up as gospel -- while they learn nothing of real people.
ReplyDeleteIf they wanted to learn about China, they might well better go ask some Chinese immigrants in any Chinatown USA why they left.
On the other hand, I wonder if the Obamas will be shown one of the frequent violent demonstrations against the gov't there -- or if they will get to witness the execution of another corrupt party hack that are held at sports stadiums.
Hey guys - we might still get a chance at greatness, but I'm afraid that the Hope n' Change comment of the week might actually end up having been posted on another site.
ReplyDeleteIn the comments to that article, a brief discussion broke out as to whether Ă˜bama was better called Liberal, Marxist, Leftist, etc... A gentleman going by "Stan in Texas" summed it up in (IMHO) perfect Hn'C style: "Arguing what to call Obama is like arguing the smell of $hit.....smells like cat $hit, no smells like horse $hit, no smells like hog $hit... doesn't matter. $hit is $hit."
Amen, brother Texan. Amen.
So, I'm not just a racist anymore.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy reading you, but is it really necessary to call the Obama girls names? Making fun of the President and/or Mrs. Obama is one thing. Their children are still children, and it just puts you in a bad light, imho.
ReplyDelete@pattymelt - Don't you remember, they are Senior White House Officials, at least when it comes to soaking the taxpayers.
ReplyDelete@Geoff King- I'd make a joke about Obama needing allege to jump off of, but it would be wrong - that's for sure.
ReplyDelete@REM1875- Actually we could skip the part about being captured, and just go straight to having the first family take on the lives of Chinese peasants for a few days. That would be an education.
@mjloehrer- Glad to be of service!
@Jim Hlavac- Well put. The Obama family is seeing the China that is reserved for royalty and the insanely wealthy - which is to say, they aren't seeing the real China at all.
@txGreg- That is well put!
@Woodsterman (Odie)- Nah, you're just resentful of one percenters like the first family.
@Pattymelt- That's a fair criticism and one I take seriously. So I'll mount a defense which you may or may not accept...
The president has frequently used his daughters as political pawns and props (remember when he didn't want them "punished" with a baby for making a "mistake"?). Still, I don't blame Obama's daughters for anything, and if you re-read the commentary you'll see I don't say anything negative about them whatsoever...with the exception of giving them fake names. I actually did that not to insult them, but rather to avoid using their real names (and yes, the lightly-offensive substitute names are really intended as a shot at the parents who named them).
I actually hope that some fine day, one of those girls will write a tell all book ratting out all the family secrets. For this possibility alone, I think highly of them.
@Anonymous- Good point; it's hard to be a minor and a Senior White House official.
The shirt says "if you like your country you can keep your country"
ReplyDeleteAw, shucks, those girls are just enjoying the fruits of following the 'Rules for Radicals'!
ReplyDeleteJust enrolled the wife in Obamacare, kinda feel sick, but hey what ya gonna do? I don't need it, I'm exempt fortunately...but waited as long as we could, since who knows...with the consistent changes to the 'law of the land', the King might have decided to wipe out ALL the mandates! Don't think that's gonna happen. But we can be sure BO & Co. are not out of tricks yet!
You inspired me, again, ol' son.
ReplyDeleteTo wit …
I'm sure we all know to take poll numbers - even those with which we agree - with a grain of salt. Check out this example in case anyone needs a reminder of why this is so.
ReplyDeleteIt just occurred to me, I remember the stare that could have restored all of AlGore's Polar ice... magilla (saw he cutest baby pictures of her, THEN someone said it was a infant gorilla), has taken over the transportation formerly available to Shrillery Clintoris, so it's NOT "wings" that the wind is below, but BROOMSTICK ONE!!
ReplyDeleteWell, Stilton, I do not accept your reasoning. You may not like the girls' parents (I am not too fond of our President or all the trips his family takes), but the substitute names you have given are not nice and are not names that any parent would give a child. However, I think there are many children with the same names as the Obama girls. And to children, nasty names can hurt the heart and soul just as much as sticks and stones hurt the body. You are much brighter and surely can find a better way than this. Just because President Obama uses his children doesn't mean you, as a gentleman, should stoop to his level.
