Irish I Could Get Out of Work Today

Hope n' Change is taking the day off. Well actually, we took yesterday off - St Patrick's Day - which is when we'd usually be preparing material for Wednesday.

Unlike those whose claims to being Irish are highly suspect (yeah, we're talking to you O'Bama), we really are part Irish - descended from a charming, red-headed son of County Cork who moved to the states, became a professional musician, knocked up our paternal grandmother without benefit of wedlock, then hot-footed it out of state.

It was his loss not to have known the marvelous bastard he fathered, and our loss that both men have now ridden the Cóiste Bodhar (the "death coach").

But today we lift a pint in their honor, and would be pleased if you'll do the same. After which we can all go back to drinking because of what we read in the news.

We actually really, REALLY want to find a beer company willing to make this.

  1. Michelle...Dark Bitter Stout. Thanks Stilton, you managed to put a smile on my face on a morning where I didn't think that would be possible.

  4. Stilt,
That's not a beer, it's a resume! If it WERE a beer, who would want to drink it? I don't even think Willie Clinton would want THAT to pass over his gums! The WORST beer I've ever imbibed was Hauenstein, from Minnesota, and I would surmise that THIS swill would make it seem like the "Dom" of beers. (Well, it might seem like "Dom", but "Dom DeLuise", NOT Dom Perignon!)

  5. But there is good news today. Despite Obama and the multi-culti-left's best efforts, Benjamin Netanyahu won yesterday's election in Israel.

The reaction (aka "hate") from the mainstream media surprised even me. They did their best to maintain the narrative that Netanyahu's re-election was based on racism and meant the end for a chance for peace in the Middle East. Or in other words, Israel gets to survive a bit longer instead of negotiating (aka "surrendering" or "committing suicide") to the Arabs and Palestinians as the left would prefer they do.

Get it? Your neighbors repeatedly attack your country and launch rockets at you, and absolutely any effort to defend yourself is labeled "racist". The only moral out is to commit suicide. This is what passes for liberalism today. Amazing.

Speaking of race and Progressive brainwashing: Next time you get a latte at Starbucks, don't be surprise if you get a lecture on race by the barista behind the counter. Seriously.

"Beginning on Monday, Starbucks baristas will have the option as they serve customers to hand cups on which they’ve handwritten the words “Race Together” and start a discussion about race. This Friday, each copy of USA Today — which has a daily print circulation of almost 2 million and is a partner of Starbucks in this initiative — will have the first of a series of insert with information about race relations, including a variety of perspectives on race. Starbucks coffee shops will also stock the insert.

Since I'm not a Starbucks customer or a fan of >$5 coffee, I won't have an opportunity to do this, but if I were, upon receiving a cup with Progressive nonsense written on it, my urge would be to take the $5 bill I'd be paying with, and write "You are a tool" on it.

  8. LOL!! Dark Bitter and Stout...that's our wookie!!! Nobama beer! Gotta check that one out!!!

Gotta admit, though, it's good to hear some good news. Bibi Netanyahu is still here! And, just knowing how torqued the lefties are over that, after allllll their efforts to influence the election of another country, is sweet indeed!

Loved Dick Cheney's comments also! Suck it, Obama!!

  9. Last year I was at the check out at Safeway with our corned beef and cabbage etc. The clerk told me that she had never had corned beef and cabbage. I told her that it was unfortunate, but how come she’s never tried it? She said that her mom told her that they couldn’t have it because they are Hispanic not Irish.
I was looking for her this year so I could tell her that Taco Bell won’t let me eat there because I’m not Hispanic. I didn’t see her this year. Maybe she was off to go vote?
Happy St Patrick's Day to all.

  11. I've been busy; Has dear leader talked about hearing the voices of 28% who didn't vote in Israel?
Barry likes to talk about how "I won." Maybe he did have right idea there for a little bit; the one about staying out of Israel's internal politics. By getting into it however, this makes two in row he's lost. let's hope he updates his tally.

  12. @TrickyRicky- I live to serve.

@Geoff King- I'll have to ask my daughter to pick up a 6-pack for me next time she's heading my way.

@Japheaux- Good idea! You should contact the makers of Nobama and suggest it!

@Bruce Bleu- I don't think the pleasure would come from consuming a bottle of "Michelle," but rather in ridding yourself of it an hour later.

@John the Econ- I'm delighted that Netanyahu won, but am appalled (ie, not surprised) that the official reaction from the White House is to congratulate the people of Israel for holding an election. Period.

The Starbucks "let's talk about race" initiative makes me insane. In part because those effing baristas should think about the fact that they might qualify for a REAL job if America hadn't elected an anti-capitalist because of his race.

@Iggy Poop- Geez, I gave you a lovely picture of Ireland and ratted out my grandmother as being "easy." What do you want? (grin)

@Anonymous- Not to mention the complimentary nuts.

@PRY- It's always fun to see Dick Cheney's unvarnished criticisms of this administration. All the more so because the Left hates him so much.

@Joseph-et- I could understand that Mom had never served it, but saying "we can't have it" is downright unAmerican. Mom needs to go to Starbucks and talk to a barista about our Constitutionally guaranteed "Freedom of Eats."

@Sam L- It works either way, doesn't it?

@Rod- I, too, was wondering if Barry is hearing the voices of those who didn't vote.

  13. @Stilton, I'm not sure why the White House would even go as far as to congratulate Israel for holding an election, especially considering how like Americans last year, the Israelis voted "incorrectly".

As for baristas at Starbucks, I do consider working at Starbucks as a "REAL" job. Unlike a lot of Americans these days, they have to show up and add some level of value in order to be entitled to a paycheck. If they actually wanted anything other than a counter service job, they might have thought harder about the advanced degree in (insert grievance group here) studies.

I think this says more about the perception of pretentiousness that Starbucks management have for the people who are willing to pay more conspicuous consumption in the form of >$5 cups of coffee. They need to be be re-assured in their progressivism.

Speaking of multiculturalism on a collision course with itself:

Bert and Ernie gay marriage cake row could force Muslims to print Prophet Mohammed cartoons

"Muslim printers could be forced to produce cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed if the case against a Christian bakery which refused to make a Sesame Street gay marriage cake is upheld, a prominent human rights barrister has claimed."

Exactly how will the multi-culti-Progressives weasel themselves around this? Progressives argue that it's not enough to "accept" homosexuality. You must also "embrace" it. Will they also force Muslims to embrace it as well?

Remember, on my "Progressive Values Hierarchy" list, "pacifism" trumps "homosexuality". In Islam, the only debate about homosexuality is the proper manner in which homosexuals are tortured as they are executed. Exactly how will they weasel out of this one?

(Hint: There will be a weasel, and it will embrace some form of the "soft bigotry of low expectations")

  14. @John the Econ- Compared to a lot of jobs these days, I guess baristas (oh, please...) are the real deal. But that says nothing about their level of professional accomplishment, and everything about our new "you want fries with that?" job market.

As for the Bert & Ernie story and its possible implications, I think it's hilarious. Yes, by all means let's start demanding that liberal businesses (or Islamic, if you're not feeling too attached to your noggin) create products which they find personally and politically abhorrent, and see how willing the courts are to put them out of business.

A side note: the bake shop in the UK should have simply told their clients that using Bert & Ernie was a copyright violation. A business is not required to put itself in legal jeopardy for a client who hasn't secured appropriate reproduction rights. So to speak.

  15. Moochelle: Dark bitter stout! Unfortunately, it's not like Guinness, though - it has a terrible head, and is kinda hard to look at.

Stellar, Stilt! Absolutely the best I've seen in a long time from anyone. Still chuckling.

  16. Off topic, not that there really was one:

Does this look like a couple who are concerned about budget deficits or "climate change"?

Barack & Michelle take separate jets from Washington to LA on the same day to appear on different television shows.

Really, how much trouble would it have been to coordinate Barack and Michelle's schedules so that they could take a single plane, and even spend a few hours of quality time together? White House officials say that it was just too much trouble, but isn't that the point? These people are demanding that the rest of us to totally re-arrange our lives in the extreme to accommodate the needs of "mother earth", but the the Obama's can't be bothered to take the same plane back-and-forth for a single day?

If it's too much trouble for the most powerful people in the country to make these adjustments, what makes anyone think that it's any easier for hundreds-of-millions of other Americans who don't have their resources?

Once again, the environmental elite demonstrate the contempt they hold for both their own agenda, and the rest of us.

I'm working on a little thought experiment here, and would like a little input from my conservative friends.

The question is: What are the straw-man aspects of conservatives that Progressives believe and hate the most? Here's my list so far:

    Religion/Belief in God
Want to drive society back to the '50s
    Anti-Abortion
    Anti-Homosexuality
    Misogyny/War on Women
    Draconian law enforcement
    Hate (in principle)

Please help add to my list. When it's done, I'll let you know where I'm going with this.

  17. @John the Econ- Off the top of my head (as my hair used to say)...
    • Lack empathy for others
    • "I've got mine" mentality
    • Motivated by greed / love corporations more than people
    • "Patriotism" is mindless flag-waving
    • Improperly grant hero status for military service
    • Liars
    • anti-environment
    • Don't accept "settled science" of climate change
    • Xenophobes / anti-immigration
    • Funded by evil billionaires (ie, Koch brothers)

  18. John the Econ, for your list:
Progressives dislike and try to influence "Traditional Values" & Leadership-development based large organizations such as Scouting. When I was a Scout, BSA had ~3% of US population as members; now it's under 1%. Much of this is a result of policy by National Council; trying to go along & get along with all this.

Progressives are also well organized in opposition to any form of resistance to the current bias, team assignments and softie-feelie assignments in EDUCATION; and promoting higher performance standards for teachers. This is where they are really getting them early & making headway especially on things like green energy and all the other hot-button issues. Afford private schools; or allowed kids to be exposed to modern education, team thinking, and biased teaching.

  19. @John the Econ- Oh yeah...

    • Old
    • Don't believe in fairness / paying "fair share" in taxes
    • Can't "move on" from ancient out-of-date Constitution
    • Want end of all government
    • Obsessed with sexuality of others
    • Possess wealth/assets which were somehow handed down (directly or indirectly) from slave owners
    • Love war

  20. @John the Econ,

I'll try to think more later, but here are a couple off the top of my head right now:

    - a bunch of radical gun nuts who only want weapons so they can shoot everyone who is "different"

    - oh, and they're all extremely racist (regardless of their own skin color)

  21. I actually hold dual citizensip so I am Irish and American.
In my earlier days I thought myself a beer connoisseur and sampled beers all over the world with gusto. (I later found out I was a beer common sewer)
So for my 2 cents worth, when 2 drunk, thirsty boozers can not finish off a 6 pack in the hot mid summer heat of the isolated New Mexico desert it deserves special recognition and A-1 from Arizona was memorable to say the least.

  22. Re Starbucks: Looks like Starbucks new "Race Together" initiative isn't being all that well received.

"An executive on Starbucks' communications team, Corey duBrowa, even blocked people on Twitter before temporarily taking down his account. DuBrowa later said in a post on Medium that he felt he was being "personally attacked in a cascade of negativity" and that he had gotten overwhelmed."

Isn't it interesting that someone who's idea it was to "spark a conversation" wasn't so interested in engaging in one when the conversation didn't go the way he wanted it to. That reaction would lead a thinking man like myself to believe that this endevour was less about "conversing" and more about propaganda or preaching.

My sister just brought this one to my attention:

Obama broaches the idea of mandatory voting

"While discussing money in politics on Wednesday, President Obama broached a topic normally confined to academic circles: A law requiring people to vote."

Can anyone come up with 1 idea from this administration that does not involve coercion?

And we can't even check IDs of people who voluntarily vote. Exactly how would these anti-ID Progressives police a system that would require people to vote?

And thanks for the contributions to my "conservative straw man" list. I'll let you in on my thoughts about this in a few days.

  24. An addendum to my earlier post today about Barack & Michelle's seeming inability to plane-pool to their TV appearances in the same city:

Obama to cut federal government’s carbon emissions 40 percent over 10 years

"President Obama signed an executive order Thursday dictating the federal government will cut its greenhouse gas emissions 40 percent over the next decade from 2008 levels and increase the share of renewable energy in the federal government’s electricity supply to 30 percent during that same period."

"Speaking to reporters Thursday at the Energy Department. Obama said the “America once again is going to be leading by example.”"

Um, yeah. Perhaps middle-class "Americans" are going to be made to "lead by example", but certainly not America's leaders.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Okay, I apologize but I cannot stop because of the constant stream of utter stupidity and hypocrisy coming out of this Administration.

So I established above that there are very different rules for carbon consumption between you and the elite. It also turns out there there are also different views of where you and the elite should be spending their vacations as well.

So which State Department do you wish to believe? The one that is suggesting that American tourists should take their vacations in Tunisia in the wake of the latest Muslim terrorist attack or the one that is recommending that their own employees avoid Tunisian tourist areas, including "the museum and surrounding vicinity"?

  26. Good one, Stilt!
I homebrew; and I did actually once produce a batch of what would qualify for this title. I started with triple strength wort, fermented it three times longer than normal(and had to re-add yeast four times), added three incompatible hops at three times normal quantity, and six months after I bottled it, it still resulted in environmental protection attention when I opened a bottle. Fortunately, after ageing for only three years it only tasted like sh!t, so I 'could' drink it after eight or ten bottles of anything else. Actually, I finally gave up on it and poured it out, causing an EPA alert at the local wastewater plant.
So... "Michelle" has been brewed, but like its namesake, it was so repugnant and disgusting that its finest hour was when it disappeared down the drain.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Just read a story this morning in our local paper about a brewery in Ukraine that is making a beer depicting lamont on the label, (BOY... talk about the publication of PORNOGRAPHY!). My review is it's dark, bitter, flat, cannot produce a decent head, and leaves a carbonated footprint. Oh, HELL no... I didn't DRINK it... just like the media, my IMAGINATION is all I need to report a story.
