Readers- Owing to time constraints (and not our much-rumored feud with Megyn Kelly) we don't have a commentary today. But cartoons? Oh yeah, we've got cartoons...
Not to worry Stilt, you didn't miss much. Ted whined about moderater-prompted teasing again. This was the first debate I watched this season and I can see that I was correct in sitting out the first seventeen of them.
None of them impressed me very much. Ted is not too far from a narcissist. Rubio is going to use the Obama is going to be a supreme Court Justice mantra. Ben is still a very nice man. Christie came across well as did Rand and Jeb. Kasich needs to follow Ben out the door.
I didn't the miss the Trumpa-loompa at all. Frankly I'm not very impressed by any of them. Anyone have a clothes pin?
LoL Nice work Doc. I skipped the debates/town hall and not because I had a sock drawer that needed rearranging like the b-o-h (D) debates. And I got to say this - who the hell is megyn kelly? I really don't recall ever seeing her do much. So now I am confused The liberals say we love fox news and we are all fox idiots. The conservatives don't seem to like fox news?
I tend to find fox pretty liberal when I do occasionally listen but it does get the news without so much bias spin as the others- often but it's still there. And it does mention and cover major news the others are not interested in, that say maybe half or more of the rest of America is interested in. They do seem to be on the short end of the white talking points and narrative and therefore actual do some investigative journalism occasionally.
I can see where the MSM might panic over this as anything slightly to the right of karl marx, the old pravda and old joe stalin appear to be a threat.
Other than sean who I can tolerate occasionally, alancombes and billy o'really who I can not stand. I don't have clue who the rest of the players are. Not the type of "conservatives" who I listen to.
I do read fox news occasionally if I need info on a story but then they do play some of the liberal journalist tricks too, like missing race and pictures of certain people although they have mug shots of him up the wazoo, fox can't seem to find any. Hard to locate a suspect when they narrow it down to 50% of the nation and whether the pistol was chromed or not. And the failure to mention a certain political party in crime stories- the usual.
@Jim Irre- I've seen about half the debate so far, and rather enjoyed it. Fox was asking tough questions (as they should), and it was interesting to see how the overall energy and maturity level was raised by dint of who wasn't on stage.
I've got to admit, Chris Christie made me salivate a bit when he spoke of his eagerness to use his skills as a prosecutor to prosecute Hillary Clinton.
@REM1875- I watch Fox News (albeit not obsessively) because they give the straightest news (relatively speaking) and cover stories the others won't. But they're just one element in the mix of news I seek out.
I like Brett Baier's 5 o'clock news and the discussion panel at the end (Krauthammer and company). I watch "The Five" to hear from Greg Gutfeld and Dana Perrino, and frequently fast forward through the other panelists - all of whom tend to annoy me. A good weekend show is the Journal Editorial Report (if I'm getting the name right) in which writers and editors for the Wall Street Journal discuss the week's events intelligently and without theatrical shrieking.
Personally, I think Megyn Kelly is good at her job. She's a tough interviewer who tends not to go easy on anyone, no matter what their political affiliation.
I was at the cabin and couldn't get the most recent R. debate and nothing like that is covered on radio anymore; was wondering what I missed. Thanks for highlights. Good 'toons, Stilt.
Since the Econ family does not subscribe to traditional cable TV, we could not watch the debate even if we had wanted to, not that we really did.
Note to GOP: Debates on cable TV are so 20 years ago. The "millennials" who need to get what little message you have don't do cable TV. You'd think that with the millions you are spending on consultants, someone would bring that up.
Hillary's comedy routine: Of course, the real joke is that this serial liar and racketeer is even considered a viable candidate. But I neglected a few months ago to mention this:
"In what appears to be a first for a serious presidential contender, Hillary Clinton’s campaign is going after five comedians who made fun of the former Secretary of State in standup skits at a popular Hollywood comedy club.
A video of the short performance, which is less than three minutes, is posted on the website of the renowned club, Laugh Factory, and the Clinton campaign has tried to censor it. Besides demanding that the video be taken down, the Clinton campaign has demanded the personal contact information of the performers that appear in the recording. This is no laughing matter for club owner Jamie Masada, a comedy guru who opened Laugh Factory more than three decades ago and has been instrumental in launching the careers of many famous comics. “They threatened me,” Masada told Judicial Watch. “I have received complains before but never a call like this, threatening to put me out of business if I don’t cut the video.”"
This should give you a clue as to what the next Clinton presidency will be like regarding free speech. As we learned from the Benghazi scandal, Clinton is no fan of the 1st Amendment, and shares the views of Middle East totalitarians in that any speech that can any way be construed as contrary to the proper political orthodoxy should be suppressed. Any Clinton operative who sees something online that they don't particularly like will have no compulsion against picking up the phone and making less than subtle threats. "That's a nice business you've got there. It would be a shame if the IRS were to show up..." We already know that the IRS is ready and willing to do this bidding.
My guess is that should Hillary be our President a year from now, "Hope-n-Change" will be nothing more than a site for publishing casserole recipes. ObamaCare is already running poor @Stilton through the ringer. I can't imagine what will be left of him once the IRS, NSA, ATF, and EPA all get in on the act.
I, for one, am preparing to write a big check the the Clinton Foundation. Perhaps surrendering half of my retirement will permit me to keep the other half.
Stilt. I also believe a shrillery presidency would see the marginalization of the 1st, 2nd, and 10th amendments. All she would need would be one supreme court point appointee and the country shifts like nothing obama ever dreamed of. That by itself should scare every voter of a conservative tilt to scurry to the polls like cattle to a watering trough in July. This is very serious.
As debates go, it was pretty run of the mill. I did find it amusing that Megyn Kelly hammered Cruz on his amnesty stance over and over again but after the debate, in her own show, she interviewed Cruz and told him she agreed with his position about the poison pill as she had studied the issue carefully. Why didn't she say this during the debate when more eyeballs were watching? I found this disingenuous, for sure. Above all, it was just a relief not having the Trump show hogging the stage. I wish he would just go away.
That old assh_le probably can't get it up without Viagra. Could you imagine what he looks like naked? Even more repulsive....what does Hillary look like naked. EHWWWWW , GROSS!!!
Those two old socialists need to go away, retire, and die. Probably their best shot of getting to heaven is a back seat ride to Pergatory!
Well the little redhead looks cute but underage, while the one on the left looks like a not-very-well-done transsexual man. Clinton as usual just looks like Uncle Moe. Moe Lester. The one in the middle is probably Moe's target.

Almost forgot! The best line of the night goes to . . . Rubio! "I think Bernie Sanders is a good candidate for President . . . of Sweden!"

Hillary walks into the doctor's office and says, "Doctah, Doctah, it hurts when I do this!"
ReplyDeleteThe Doctor said, "Don't do that."
So she dropped out of running for president and awaited trial for gross negligence in her capacity as SofS.
Her punishment will be to read everything John The Econ writes ... nonstop. There is no end. Econ man never, ever ... stops.
Well done today, SJ, well done! Excellent toons!
