Grinding Sounds from the Transition

As the Presidential transition moves ahead, and the Left continues to lose whatever semblance of sanity they might once have had, Hope n' Change would like to share some rambling ruminations on a variety of Trump-related topics.

First, let's talk about the thousands of anti-Democracy protesters clogging streets around the nation, all of whom are struggling desperately with the very real problem of shooting selfies which also include their "Not My President" signs. The protesters can generally be broken into two groups: paid agitators and idiots. The idiots can also be broken into two sub-groups: those for whom stupidity is simply a lifestyle choice, and those who are genuinely in fear...

The insensitive cartoon above notwithstanding,  we have sympathy for those who are truly terrified, and towering anger for those in the media who are lying and fear-mongering about the President-elect for the sole purpose of stoking panic.  A genuinely responsible media should now be running stories about why neither Trump nor any President can run the country like a complete lunatic thanks to the Constitution and separation of powers.  And they might also finally mention that Trump is, by almost any definition, a social liberal.

But nooOOooo. You've got the New York Times telling readers that they are suddenly going to "rededicate ourselves to the fundamental mission of Times journalism; to report America and the world honestly, without fear or favor." And on the very same day, here's how they "honestly" and "without favor" describe the election's consequences: "Suddenly, the progressive, post-racial, bridge-building society (of Obama) has given way to an angry, jeering, us-against-them nation to be led by a new president who relishes reality-show name-calling with racial overtones." Sheesh.

But the mendacity of the media is old news, and Hope n' Change would like to address another, newer problem - this one coming from Trump's staunchest supporters. As various names are floated for Trump's cabinet, some on the Right are fretting over what they see as a less than complete break from the past. They're upset that Rudy Giuliani, Pete Sessions, Newt Gingrich and others may end up on Trump's team.

To those who are worried: don't be. The reason you supported Trump in the first place is because you believe in his ability to hire and fire the right people - so give him a chance to do what he does best. And don't discount the need for him to bring in some experienced Washington players... because he's about to run headfirst into very experienced Washington opposition.

In other words, on both the Left and Right, it's time for all of us to take a deep breath and actually see how President Trump will govern.  There will be plenty of time for panic - or hopefully celebration - in the next four years.

Oh, and one more thing...

  1. People seem to forget that Trump was, and when you get down to it, is not a politician. He is a businessman. So his hiring and firing is going to be very different than what we see from the typical politician (of whom both Obama and Hillary are pretty much the premiere examples thereof.)

He will fire people for reasons that the political crowd wouldn't understand, like for non-performance, like at a real job. He will also keep people who are under attack for bullscat reasons that the typical political hack would kick to the curb.

Trump, for good or ill, is 'The Boss' and not 'The King/Queen' like we currently have and might have had.

The fact that Trump has gotten pro 2nd Amendment people together, from gun writers to industry executives, to look at passing pro-gun legislation and eliminating anti-gun executive orders is great. Trump wants a 'climate skeptic' as head of the EPA transition team. Heck, the people being floated for press secretary are all fantastic, whether tongue-in-cheek or not. Anne Coulter, Milo whatshisname, all great, great.

The libs and the media are expecting a politician. We voted in a man.

  2. For years I have said, "Show me a CEO and I will show you a politician." One does not just lead a multi-level business/organization without cutting some deals and putting the right people in place which is something our Community Organizer could never do. (The thought that we may never encounter the term "community organizer" again soothes the very depths of my soul.) Trump is most definitely a politician and a darned good one.

If Donald Trump delivers half of what he promised, our nation will be in a stronger position than it has been for the last two decades. God Bless Donald Trump and God Bless America.

  3. Rhetorical question time again; If it's true that there are ads in Craigslist looking for agitators to disrupt the country in general and the swearing-in ceremony in particular, why-oh-why hasn't the originators of said ad been stopped? Now to answer my own rhetorical question; Because the administration of this country wants the disruption, that's why! I could go on but I have to work on my tan..... As soon as the temperature goes above 35 degrees, that is.

  4. Great suicide hotline cartoon. That may just go on my office door today. What the heck, I've only got three weeks left there anyhow. And thank you for actually calling the rioters out for what they are, anti-democracy. We had an election. They lost. Now they know how it feels. I would say suck it up buttercup and go back to work, but I guess they are at work. So alternatively, I will say STFU and where in the hell are the high pressure hoses, tear gas and rubber bullets?

  5. 66 days and 16 hours left for Ă˜asshat to complete the destruction of our country. That's assuming he actually plans on stepping down. The Soros - funded rioting may be designed to give him the opportunity to declare Martial Law and remain in office.
Let us pray that is not the case.

  6. You failed to call the non-paid snowflake agitators "useful idiots." This cold war phrase needs to be draped around the neck of any and all who fall behind Soros' and his minions. It's much more pointed than mere "idiots." Excellent post, by the way.

  7. I would compare the NYT's "rededication to journalistic integrity" with Hillary announcing a newfound commitment to telling the truth.

  8. Great edition Stilt and the comment thread will be good too. I think he's off to a smart start; let's keep blocking for the team-elect and let them make some ground. In football-speak they will be in the red zone all the time. And the Soup-Nazi re Legacy?: Hilarious. Overseas: Russia has already demonstrated more respect than they have in eight years.

  9. "The idiots can also be broken into two sub-groups: those for whom stupidity is simply a lifestyle choice, and those who are genuinely in fear..."

those who are genuinely in fear would be making themselves unnoticeable, like prey to a predator. therefore those that are publicly and loudly calling attention to themselves are merely useful idiots. accent on the idiot.

  10. Stilt, that "grinding sound" you hear is a paradigm shifting without the clutch! I hope our nation collects its' corporate brain and works to right the wrongs of liberalism!

  11. As long as our PE Trump continues to recruit smart, well grounded people, me thinks we should not worry. I do not worry about the protesters as soon enough they will get tired of ranting and raving the same old stuff over and over and on their feet all day. Then, maybe that is shift work, I don't know. Very happy with Rudy and Newt. Newt should be president and could have been had his personal baggage been as little less revealing but the honey trap has ruined many guys. Didn't do predator Bill a world of good and what? did I read that Crooked Hillary also partook of such?
    I digress.

  12. Although I never supported Trump, I have always acknoledged that his biggest upside would be his ability to unhinge what little remained hinged of the left. And over the last week, that's exactly what happened.

How unhinged? Unhinged enough to select a diaper pin as their symbol. Really. Can't make that up. (Click here to see the new-left's medals of honor)

Really want to make a diaper-pin-wearer melt down? Point out that the only reason that Trump might be a threat to them in a Constitutional Republic is because Obama failed.

You see, the Constitution and Bill of Rights exists to protect the ultimate minority, the individual citizen. If it's going to fail in doing so, it's only because previous leaders like Obama (with his "phone and pen") have fought tirelessly to weaken it. Presidents were never intended to have this much power over your life. If you think that Trump does, then you've bonded with the wrong ideology.

Over the last year, I've watched Progressives spew with glee as they watched what they believed to be the self-destruction of the Republican Party. The irony is that it's actually the left that is just starting to implode. I'd respond that at least the GOP got to choose the form of the destructor. The hapless Democratic voter never had such a choice.

So now, what seemed like it must have been some kind of big unkept secret is in the open: The Democrats, who have actually been at war with the "middle class" have now, in fact, lost the middle class vote. Of course, the still-faithful are spinning this as the product of the usual "isms"; sexism, racism, etc. What they don't get is that outside of a college campus, those pejoratives don't work anymore. They've worn them out.

Here's my nightmare scenario for the Democrats: Imagine if Trump were to build a coalition of the "middle class".

One of the most offensive aspects of the Democrat party is the division of people into controllable affinity groups by race, sexuality, religion, etc. Imagine a coalition of voters who actually don't care about these things; a party that wasn't about race, sexuality, religion, etc.

The Two faces of the New York Times: Suprised? Don't be. The New York Times has made the simple business decision to pander to its core audience, the smug north-east coast Progressive. They issued their mea culpa to make them feel good about themselves and to re-assure their core audience that they are the "honest" ones. Then, it's right back to business as usual.

As for what a Trump administration will look like? It's anyone's guess. I can only assume that it's going to be somewhere between the "swap clearing" he promised and the establishment GOP that both the far-left and true conservatives have grown to loath. But then again, I've long argued that at his core he's still a "Democrat", so buckle up. Could be anything.

  13. I still can't get over it. When O'Liar won the election TWICE, folks on the right dared not utter even a hint of our disdain for the little peckerhead socialist, lest we be branded racist KKK haters. So now Trump takes their next perceived ascendant to the throne to the woodshed, and they suddenly hate the Electoral college and the election was rigged. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and all other social media are filled with hatred coming from the a-holes who lay claim to being the "adults" and compassionate ones.

Listen up, all you big fat babies... Hillary got beat, fair and square; just like McCain and Romney got beat fair and square. That's how voting works. Sometimes you win; sometimes you don't. Grow the eff up, and more importantly, shut the eff up. The world is not going to end in a flaming ball, and Trump is not going to launch all the nukes his first day in office, and (probably more relevant to you) your food stamps and Medicaid will not get shut off.

    @Biff Wellington,
Of course the NYT is now suddenly interested in "the truth," since we will not have a Democrat President. Sheesh....

  14. Above all, the feeling I am having is a profound sense of relief. We dodged the real horror of what would be a Hillary administration. For those of us who have been dismayed over the rapid descent of our country into a socialist hell, where people have actually been persecuted over their beliefs (Christian bakers) instead of the false claims being made by the leftists and the protesters. For those of us who cherish the promise of individual freedom, the election of Hillary would have been a nail in the coffin of that concept. Only the favored would advance and the rest of us would be told to take a hike. The dishonest media has led us to believe that conservatism was a dinosaur on its way out when in fact, as Mr. Econ stated, its the Democrat party which is marginalized and in disarray, with a very shallow bench from which to draw. I was shocked to learn that one-third of Democrat representation in the House comes from three states! No longer will the liberal media be able to fool the average Joe. Their reputations are in tatters and deservedly so. Judging by some of the commentary I've read, most of them still don't get it. Expect fierce opposition from them for anything and everything Trump does and also expect them to be disregarded as the dishonest lot they are.

  16. Beautiful and so bang on. As a Canadian on the Westest part of the West Coast, I drown in liberalism daily. In fact, my city is the lesbian capital of Canada. As someone who supports Trump, well, I am not too well regarded and definitely of a lower class. After all my hair is long, not chic silver and very short. And I wear dresses not like a guy. There is no sense in speaking to these women about politics. Even the intelligent ones are stupid, often the most depressingly of all because they know better. Or they refuse to look beyond their bubble no matter what one says.

    Your material keeps me sane.
