ReplyDeleteThis morning, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to do something to make my own world feel a bit better; my wife and I drove to the DFW airport to join the volunteers welcoming returning soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan.
ReplyDeleteFlag waving, applause, handshakes, and many calls of "thank you!" and "welcome home!" to these brave men and women. We were honored, and humbled, to be in the company of service families and veterans.
This was the first time I had gone to the airport to greet these heroes. It won't be the last.
.. and when the opportunity to step up and actually act "Presidential" what does Obama do? He offers a "shout out" to Dr. Joe Medicine Crow and thanks many others before FINALLY acknowledging the events at Ft. Hood -- honestly, the only thing me might have done that was less "Presidential" would have been to high/low "five" the people as he walked on stage
ReplyDeleteThen, the genius, acknowledged the "Congressional Medal of Honor" recipient .. umm, Mr. "President" .. what YOU awarded Dr. Crow in AUGUST was the "Presidential Medal of Freedom"
Honestly .. is this man capable of anything else besides reading prepared statements and voting "present" on critical issues?
Dan M, you're so right. My jaw dropped when the happy-go-lucky prez did the "shout out" to Dr. Joe Medicine Crow, then made clear that the announcement about the military deaths was an unwanted (and to him, unimportant) interruption in the pow-wow with his adoptive people (Obama claims he was adopted by Crow Indians in 2008. No, really)
ReplyDeleteNow, with the benefit of a full day to think about it (and consult with image makers and speechwriters) what does the president have to say? That we "shouldn't jump to conclusions" that the bastard who shouted "Allahu Akbar!" as he shot his victims was acting out of Islamic beliefs.
What a waste of a perfectly good oval office...

Its kinda sad that Stilton acted more "Presidential" today than our President.... I was sadly thinking about how Bush would have reacted to the shooting and it would have been with grave respect and compassion for the victims... none of this Obama stuff, where you have to once again wonder where his loyalties REALLY lie....
ReplyDeleteSuzy, there's no question that President Bush would have reacted with genuine emotion, intensity, and sincerity. Barack Hussein Obama seemed to show no more interest than if he were reading a grocery list.

Los Angeles Times:
Last night former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura made a secret visit to the devastated military families at Fort Hood.
The Bushes instructed the mourning military base's commander that they wanted no publicity. With their Secret Service detail, Bush and his wife made the 30 mile trip unannounced from their ranch near Crawford, Texas Friday evening.
Fox News broke news of the visit this afternoon. Other sources said the former first couple spent about two hours meeting with family and soldiers, talking quietly and at times hugging them as they did in private at other times of crisis such as post-9/11.
Most presidents come to feel a genuine respect and affection for the people they lead as commander-in-chief and sometimes the affection is reciprocated.
