Completing The Shaft

There was good news this weekend when rescuers finished drilling a "rescue shaft" to 33 Chilean miners who have been trapped underground since August 5th. Following safety tests and inspections, it is hoped that the miners can be pulled to freedom within the next few days - far earlier than the previous estimations that they would be stuck until early November.

Sadly, November is still the earliest rescue date for Americans who are still trapped beneath the Democratic super-majority. But while waiting for their freedom, the Americans have kept up their spirits, worked hard on exercising their rights, and have maintained a healthy diet of real news and plenty of Tea.

Whether we're talking about Chilean miners or incumbent Democrats, we can't wait for them to be out...at which point we'll finally be able to enjoy a deep, restorative breath of fresh air.

  1. The Democrats dug themselves a deficit hole without the strengthening sidewalls of a firm economy. Now that the hole is collapsing, they stand at the bottom wondering who's throwing all that dirt on their heads. Pssst, hey Democrats...it's us.

  2. First rule of holes - when you hit bottom, quit digging!

Pretty amazing they're able to drill a hole that size, that far w/ that degree of accuracy... Not sure I'd care for the capsule ride out, but I suppose people w/ claustrophobia are not likely to be miners in the first place..

  3. Pete(Detroit)- According to news stories, one of the biggest worries is that the miners may have panic attacks while confined in the small enclosure that will be used to haul them to the surface. Very scary stuff, and in all seriousness we can't wait for those men to come back up to the surface safely.

  5. Give the miners a mild sedative before taking the trip.

  6. TheOldMan- While that's probably a good idea (heaven knows that I've been on sedatives - mild and strong - since Obama took office), the miners can't be too tranquilized because if there's a problem mid-trip, they'll need to be physically able to help out...including, in a worst case scenario, opening the bottom of the rescue vehicle so they can lower themselves back down to the mine via rope.

  7. Kudos to the EMT and drilling specialist who will be the first ones to ride the rescue vehicle down to the miners. And I think it was a U.S. made drill that got there first. Nice to know the U.S. still has engineering expertise.

  9. Pete(Detroit)- Oops. The cartoons are supposed to upload automatically just after midnight, but Tuesday's cartoon had a number out of whack and so wasn't going to show up until 2 in the afternoon. It's been fixed!
