Out on the campaign trail, lukewarm Barack Obama is trying to portray himself as Luke Skywalker, and warns against the potential resurgence of the GOP by saying that "The Empire is striking back."
Obviously, the farce is strong with this one...because it's the Democrats who control the presidency, the House, the Senate, and the mainstream media. And it's the grass roots "rebel alliance" known as the Tea Party that is fighting the oppression of the Democrats and the potential enslavement of future generations by the terrifying "Debt Star" which has grown by over $3 trillion just since Obama took office.
Frankly, we think the president looks desperate and more than a little ridiculous when he tries to make "Star Wars" comparisons to his administration. But then again, he can't really go back to making speeches about "Hope" and "Change"... because people only fell for that a long time ago, in a galaxy that seems increasingly far, far away.

Philip- Interesting link. It seems that Obama has actually endorsed Jon Stewart's so-called "Rally to Restore Sanity." But then again, why wouldn't the president encourage people to get their news and views from a comedian, considering that his own administration has been a joke (albeit not a funny one).
ReplyDeleteDo a search for "We are Sith" over on the Anti-Idiotarian website. It is a lengthy examination of the entire Star Wars universe broken down in economic terms and explains why the Jedi were the oppressive enforcers of a corrupt system and the Sith were the true heroes (well sort of).

ReplyDeleteI'm reading the tweets of the Obama speech in Portland, Oregon. It's mostly just a bunch of meaningless metaphors, lots of "car into the ditch" stuff. "Republicans want the keys to the car but they don't know how to drive." and "We don't want what you're selling. We tried it before & we don't like it." Is this the way political rallies always are?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous (immediately above)- No, this isn't the way all political rallies are. With so many real problems in need of real solutions, lame metaphors are the last resort of the morally and intellectually bankrupt.
ReplyDeleteAmerica is not a car. A depressed economy is not a ditch. A desire to return to constitutionality and fiscal responsibility is not a sales pitch.
If Obama (or any Democrat) has anything to say about our actual problems - or a proposal for actual solutions - they are free to do so. But they aren't because they either have no ideas, or the things most Americans see as problems are the things that Democrats see as victories.
