A long time ago, a wise man said "the time has come to set aside childish things."
Well actually, it wasn't all that long ago...it was January 20, 2009. And the man wasn't all that wise either, because these words were spoken by Barack Obama in his inaugural address.
At the time, he was referring to "childish things" like believing that the unborn have a right to life, or thinking that actual evidence was necessary to believe in global warming. And in the place of these "childish things", the new president promised unicorns and rainbows, world peace, full employment, free healthcare, free pie and, best of all, free Obama-money!
But none of it happened. And voters eventually realized that the genuinely "childish thing" had been electing a fast-talking Prince Charming who promised them a "happily ever after" when we live in a real world, with real problems, requiring real solutions.
Which is why on Election Day, 2010, Americans sent a resounding, historic, and unmistakable message to Barack Hussein Obama. And the unicorn he rode in on.

I am going to sleep a very, very happy man tonight. I used to think that this country was entirely lost to the inexorable thievery of the socialists. Now we stand a a chance of actually sustaining a country.

ReplyDeleteWish I could be as thrilled. As much as the house was cleaned last night, the cancer remains. I still fear that becoming a EU is still in our future, and California is our Greece. Jerry Brown won, and Barbara (I worked hard for that) Boxer retains her seat. They even voted to keep their "global warming" job-kill law.
ReplyDeleteThis proves the prediction I made 25 years ago that we were near the point where those who depend upon government largesse in some form (state employee, student, welfare recipient, medicare/medicaid, social security, crony capitalists) would soon outnumber the productive citizens, and there is no way a "democracy" could survive that. It's only a matter of time before California asks the rest of us (or Communist China really) to be their Germany.
If this trend is going to be reversed, we still have a lot of work to do. I hope that this time, the GOP really is the "party of NO".
My joy is tempered by living in Massachusetts, which had a democrat sweep.

ReplyDeleteJohn, I have to agree with you completely. Conservatives may have gained a spindly foothold, but unless we are able to dig our heels in for a long, long fight we (and our Country as we know it) are lost.

ReplyDeleteIn my mind, America still has a life-threatening tumor... but aggressive treatment has caused it to stop growing for now. And so the next step will be trying to excise the tumor itself, followed by all the work necessary for rehabilitation of the damage done, and lifestyle changes (to beat the analogy to death) to avoid recurrence.
So, is it really a cause for joy to think "things are terrible, but at least they may not get a lot worse in the next two years"? In these strange days of Hope n'Change, the answer is yes.
I wouldn't say Obama is a fast talker, he's more a smooth talker.
ReplyDeleteNiki Hampton: Not only did Oregon vote all Democrats into office, Oregon voted all INCUMBENTS back into office, without exception.
There's lots of hard work ahead and I'm so sympathetic to conservatives living in solid blue states. But I'm particularly happy about the net gain in Republican governors. As long as Obama is president and has veto power, Obamacare can't be repealed legislatively. But states can sue and send this abomination to the Supreme Court where it can be overturned by the slim majority of judges who still use the U.S. Constitution to determine a law's constitutionality. I'm also guardedly optimistic that the next Speaker of the House has returned to basic conservative principles. The next two years will provide tremendous opportunity for some of the "stars" who just got elected (Rubio in Florida) to help educate the public. There are some very articulate conservative legislators heading for Washington in January. Trust the mainstream media to misrepresent them, but we still have a tremendous assortment of talented t.v., radio and web site hosts to highlight their hypocrisy. Thank you FOX, Rush, Stilton and all the rest.
ReplyDeleteWow cancer really is a great likeness....its true the tumor stopped growing but now we need it to begin to shrink. It will take years and a miracle to eradicate.

ReplyDeleteAs long as there is a single cell in the body, the threat of the cancer growing is always present. We will never be free of the threat, so we must continually defeat each cell as we find them.
ReplyDeleteJust head the one on the radio; he didn't get the message. He says we're just tired and frustrated with the slowness of his recovery, and backing off of his policies is not going to happen. The cancer is still in place, and it will take at least another 2 years to be rid of a big chunk of it.
John the Econ- No question that we're in for a long haul...and there was never really any question of whether or not Barack would "get the message." He already knew the message, and declared that voters were too stupid and frightened to know what's good for them.
ReplyDeleteAnd if Obama is knocked out of office in 2012, plenty of others will be waiting to take his place. Freedom, by its very nature, makes enemies of all those who want to control others. So the fight will be unending, but it doesn't mean we can't take and hold the high ground.

(He well knows that we know who and what he really is) It's the remaining hopey-changy people he's talking to who are tired and frightened; tired of waiting for a nanny state that is never going to really come, and frightened of a world where the people have to take responsibility for their own fates.
ReplyDeleteI'm sad that Raul "Boycott Arizona" Grijalva won. What's really amazing though is that he barely made it. He was predicted to win by a landslide.
