Cold Comfort

obama, obama jokes, food taster, daughter, stilton jarlsberg, hope n' change, hope and change, conservative(Note: this cartoon originally appeared on Facebook over the weekend)

Last week, the president extended his alleged "charm offensive" to accepting a lunch meeting with Republicans in Congress, where the poor sequester-beaten politicians were served a pauper's meal of fresh lobster, potato chips, blueberry pie with ice cream, and probably an unassuming domestic champagne served in flutes of Waterford crystal.

Sadly, Barack Obama was unable to eat a bite - because his "food taster" wasn't present to make sure that nothing was poisoned (other than the atmosphere of trust).

The other guests dined happily and pointed out that they were all serving as tasters for the president, but he wasn't buying it - perhaps because he has some inside knowledge of plans to poison conservatives but was a little hazy on the actual date of execution.

The notion of a royal "food taster," willing to munch a mouthful of mutton and drum his fingers while waiting for the arsenic to kick in, summons up images of a medieval king. As does the impish presence of Obama's court jester, Joe Biden, and the president's propensity to invite singing minstrels to the Whitehouse - even though saying "minstrel" out loud will get you shipped to Guantanamo.

In any event, Hope n' Change suggests that as a provision of Obamacare, we all receive personal tasters. After all, it's the president himself who's given us so much that is hard to swallow...

  1. The REAL reason he wouldn't eat is because he couldn't be certain that the food was halal.

  2. You are ALWAYS on the mark. Thank you for being a breath of sanity with a chuckle.

  3. Almost as bad as the Royal Tasting is the fact that those tone-deaf asshat politicians are eating lobster for their lunch while folks all across this country are cutting back to put even a decent meal on the table. Eff them all!

  4. Well, as Nancy Pelosi says, "we'll have to pass it to find out what's in it."

  5. Yup, the politicos get lobster and the rest of us get the poor man's "Surf & Turf": a hamburger and the "crabs".

  7. Taster? Good cover for not eating Hallal lobster!

  8. I'm going to buck the trend a little, as I have read that;

    1. Food Taster is a SS provision/job, not a White House one, and

    2. It's been around since at least Reagan's day.

Now, I have no idea if that "excuses" Barack for his actions, since it WAS pretty obvious that, with other politicians eating, it was safe.

Was it purely bureacratic? I don't know. And it doesn't change the "let them eat cake" mentality and actions of the Obama Administration overall, but if the above is true, be careful.

The Dems will latch onto the thinnest of reeds to defend The One.

However, since he's called his daughters sons more than once, and called pregnancy a "mistake," I can totally see him using his daughters this way. There is so little "human warmth" from this President, towards his wife, his daughters, his extended family, anyone.

    Thanks for posting!

  9. @Coon Tasty- The thought had crossed my mind...

@JLVecchio- It's sort of a creepy chuckle sometimes, but I try.

@Grafton Cheddar- See, that honked me off, too. Why can't these guys be eating PBJ sandwiches like the rest of us peons?

@Jim Hlavac- True on so many levels (grin).

@It's No Gouda- We could have hamburgers if the first lady gave us permission.

@Stan da Man- You know, in this economy there's probably a good living to be made by manufacturing "closed" signs.

@Anonymous- If Barry uses a taster who is a devout Muslim, it would give him a good excuse for avoiding foods which aren't Hallal, wouldn't it?

@Earl Allison- I don't actually have a problem with the Secret Service making sure that the president (even this one) isn't poisoned. However, I'm a little unclear on why this "taster" wouldn't have been brought to a scheduled luncheon. Personally, I think Barry just didn't want to lower himself to eating with conservatives.

As far as the inclusion of the president's daughter in today's cartoon, I did it somewhat reluctantly - but the cartoon isn't really making her a target. Rather, it's Barry's own political use of his daughters (as you've cited) which made this fair game in my mind.

  10. Assuming that "the food taster" position has been around for ages for Prezzies of all different persuasions, what does it say about the Narcissist-in-Chief that he is the only one who has ever felt the need to call attention to it? Chicago Jasyesus, He is just so effin' important!!!

  11. Couldn't believe I saw this on MSM over the weekend:

A sob story about a group of grade-school kids who'd spent the last year raising money for a trip to Washington DC and the White House, only to discover upon arriving that it was closed due to the phony sequester crisis.

So John Boehner invites them over to the capitol, which is open and personally gives them a tour!

PR coup! I do hope in the background, his aides were educating those kids that what Obama spent on his single little weekend trip to play golf with Tiger Woods would have funded White House tours for at least the next generation.

The nearly unbelievable news is that it's starting to appear as though Obama is losing the PR war he started over the sequester. Even the pliant media can't keep him from looking hypocritical and silly as it becomes more and more undeniably obvious that the the sequester is a scam designed to blackmail America from demanding fiscal responsibility.

Heck, he's even lost Jon Stewart, who actually applauded Rand Paul over domestic drone attacks:

You take your good news where you find it.

  13. This hit 9.99 on the bull-shito-meter! A food taster? Really!? Buck you Farry! I don't give a rat's ass if this has been going on since Reagan. NOBODY brought it to light until you. Do you really think this somehow makes you look important? What it really does is make you look like the pathetic little narcissist that you are.

Now... outside to look for drones....

  14. And a pleasant evening to y'all, I see some of ya are still wear green -around the gills, a sure sign ya had a sure sign ya had a pleasant St paddy's day. This Irishman must refrain from that stuff cause I am allergic to it, cause me to break out and get tossed in places where it's even tougher to break out.
I really am Irish- dual citizenship. I had a teacher in high school, before the days of pc and self esteem building, that pointed me out and said the Irish were good for nothing but being drunks, soldiers or authors -ha I showed her- I have never written a book.
Thanks Stilton I was really worried he was using junior officers or senior enlisted to taste his food, but I should have known he would not waste kobi beef on them. Plus knowing how he, his wife and his staff feels about our military they would not want them around. With biden as vice president who the hell would dare poison Ø?
It was truly a crude slap in the face, since he knew he had been invited to dine with them. Ahh it for the best I am sure that they would have followed the old Italian tradition of throwing his plates to the floor, shattering and spitting on them as he was leaving. ( at least the few who have backbone.)
