A Great Gift
Tis the season for holiday classics and reflection on the world around us.
"It's a Wonderful Life" is one of our favorite movies. But you can't accept the premise of the film (that if we simply try our best to lead good lives, the world will be better for it than we might ever know) without also accepting that the Abortion Holocaust in this country (over 50 million since 1973) is likely depriving us of more good deeds, good people, and potential improvements to society than we can ever know.
Not that every fetus would necessarily grow up to be a George Bailey. But if you don't at least believe in the potential of a fetus - or a newborn - to become someone decent and of consequence, then you've hardened your heart to life itself.
But if you do believe in that potential, then you'll grieve the loss of so many lives. And mourn the millions of unborn who, unlike George Bailey, never got the chance to say "I want to live!"

Powerful stuff, Stilt! And spot on - I remember reading about how Judy Garland was almost aborted, but her mother's doctor talked her out of it. When people get more upset over throwing an aluminum can in the trash than trashing a human life, then we're in big trouble
ReplyDeleteThanks, Stilt, for today's spot-on "cartoon". With the millions of aborted babies, one wonders how America would have fared with those additional citizens.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas, Stilt (and readers); may the beauty of the season remind us of one baby who was not aborted.
Excellent post dear Stilton. I completely agree! This is something near and dear to my heart. I am adopted because my birth-mother was unmarried. I searched for her as an adult just to tell her thank you but by then she was deceased. I'm so thankful she let me live even though I was "unwanted" (no such thing in my book!). We all have a purpose. It's up to us to make good in this world. I don't understand how anyone that is sane can murder a child. It's the ultimate child abuse. This really is a Wonderful Life, especially if one has a Christ centered life. He helps us to want to 'be good'.
ReplyDeleteGod bless. ~:)
@SusieBee: We're in big trouble. Definitely MUCH more concern over real or imagine affronts to mother gaia than affronts to the human race.
ReplyDelete@Bobo: With the lost population from 1973 to 1990, maybe voter demographics would have been different enough to have prevented the current Ă˜bamanation in WDC? We'll never know. Clarence isn't coming 'round to undo that bad wish...
@Stilton: YOU, Sir, continue to command my deep respect and gratitude. You're spot on with this, and your message was delivered in such an imaginative and creative manner... BRAVO, Sir! Bravo.
I often wonder how many Einsteins, DaVincis, Poes, Ghandis, Newtons, Carnagies, Washingtons, (Jackie) Robinsons, VanGoghs, et al were aborted-and how mankind has lost out on their contributions.
ReplyDeleteWhat can I say except "Amen".
ReplyDelete@SusieBee- I agree entirely. I don't want to hear that a fetus is "just tissue."
ReplyDeleteIn the interest of truth and full disclosure, I'm strongly anti-abortion but not against all legalized abortion. Which is to say that in rare cases (usually cited as rape, incest, or genuine medical threat) I can understand having the procedure done reluctantly, and with a full knowledge that the result is a death.
BUT, the way abortion is actually practice in this country is what sickens me. Lives are created without thinking, and lives are destroyed and discarded just as casually. I'm not religious, but I know a moral wrong when I see one.
And somehow, "It's A Wonderful Life" just brought all of this together for me again. When a nation no longer believes in the potential of the unborn, they've quite literally become a nation without a future.
@Bobo the Hobo- How many of that 50 million would have been unspectacular but good and caring people? How many children might they have had who would also try to do the right thing? What would our nation be now?
Of course, Planned Parenthood was founded on the notion of eugenics: specifically aborting undesirable black babies in hopes of more or less eliminating the race.
And yes, surely some of those aborted would have brought little but pain into the world.
But who are we to decide preemptively what an unborn's potential is?
In my too long-winded way, this is just a plea to respect life. And also not to treat sex as a meaningless game in which the loser can be (in Obama's words) punished with a baby" unless the mother and the state have it killed.
@Sparky- My father was a bastard. By which I mean that this wonderful, kind man was born out of wedlock. Had abortion been easy to get back then, the odds are good that I wouldn't be here now, trying to help Clarence earn his wings by annoying this jackass of a president.
And as I've said before, I'm not religious - but I certainly believe that there is no greater influence in helping people "want to be good" than the church.
@Emmentaler- And it's not just voter demographics which could be strongly affected by the legions of missing: think of the societal effects that just one person can have: a Steve Jobs, a Bill Gates, a Rush Limbaugh, a Christopher Hitchens, a Ronald Reagan, or yes - even a Barack Hussein Obama. The degree to which our world might be different is unknowable and immeasurable.
@FlyBoy- Exactly. Although again, George Bailey wouldn't have usually been counted among those exalted individuals...but wasn't the world better off for having him (and those like him) here?
@Chuck- I figure even a well-mannered heretic like me can echo such an "Amen" if I do it with respect and humility. And I do.
@Stilt...I know what you mean by the 'church', but more correctly, it is the spirit of God himself that inspires and empowers us to 'be good'.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, great post today...it's so tragic that American culture has turned its back on God, and thereby turning its back on goodness, as it is plain to see every day! The population of the US would be greater by 50 MILLION people today if not for the attitudes and policies of this country.
Speaking of religious stuff, Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty really screwed up, even though he was correctly quoting the word of God the other day...I mean, I concur in his feelings toward gays as I beleive every believer does, BUT...he did something that the word of God says not to do....he 'cast his pearls before swine'! Which is to say...you sometimes cannot quote the truths of God to unbelievers, because it is very offensive to them. We are called to react in God's spirit of Love whenever possible, it is much more effective and inoffensive.
I am praying for all readers here to have a safe and blessed Christmastime!
This is the best comment you have made (since I've been reading you at least). Thank you.
ReplyDeleteWell, I suppose it could be argued that, for every Einstein or DaVinci aborted, there are also Hitlers and Bin Ladens aborted. It could also be argued that, since it is mostly libs that get abortions, we now have fewer libs running around. But the bottom line? On demand bortion is the most cruel and dispicable form of murder imaginable, and it needs to be stopped somehow. I truly believe this once fine country will go down the tubes eventually, due to our acceptance of loathesome and un-Christlike behavior. Can anyone say, "Roman Empire?"
ReplyDeleteI'll also repeat something that I have posted hear at least once before. My awesome 13 year old grandson almost wasn't. If his maternal grandmother (NOT my wife) had gotten her wish, he would have been murdered in the womb and cast away like a piece of rotten meat. I think God that my son and his wife prevailed and stuck by their beliefs! Yes, they were way too young to get married, and the marriage eventually failed, but they did it and saved this young man's life.
@Sparky,
I was adopted too, but back in those days (we banged rocks together to get dirt), good boys and girls weren't supposed to do things to get pregnant, and they absolutely did not get (gasp!) abortions. Today, it's probably the most popular form of birth control. No pills, no pesky condoms, no unreliable diaphrams, no IUD's. Just f**k your brains out at will and flush out the results later. Sorry to be so graphic, but this is exactly how too many young people think about sex.
So..... On a lighter note, y'all have a Wonderful Christmas and try and not drink too much coffee on New Year's!
If the GOP really wanted to put an end to abortion-as-birth control, then they should come out and enthusiastically support it. Reflexively, the extreme-leftists and their media cohort would accuse them of engendering genocide; or an agenda to "decrease the surplus population" as Dickens might have put it.
ReplyDeleteThen, it would be fun to watch the pro-abortionists rationalize how they are somehow any different.
Did I really just hear Wolf Blitzer say this: After his press conference, he's off to Hawaii for "some badly needed R&R"?
ReplyDeleteWithin the first 30 seconds of his presser, it drops at least 8 outright lies.
But good news. The President thinks that 2014 is going to be a "breakthrough year" for America. Get ready for "Recovery Summer 5".
You know, I'm against abortion, without a doubt. Though I have some observations that skew from the usual. First, for decades "abortion & homosexuality" were side by side, linked by some bizarre concept I've get to grasp. For if there's one thing gay guys have no connection to, it's abortion. We're not making the babies, nor killing them afterwards. It is also true that in 1973 heterosexuals started to kill babies at a steady clip -- while gay guys were still being committed to mental institutions for not making babies to kill. We were insane for not wanting to kill babies! Talk about warped mentality. Then too, in the 30 years from 1973 while heterosexuals could kill their babies, gay guys not making babies was illegal until 2003 -- our sex a felony. Smooching a perfectly willing sissy a damn felony while heterosexuals murdering their own kids was legal -- and we are called the threat to children and family. Perverse, audacious and hypocritical to say the least.
ReplyDeleteAnd then, too, there is mention of what sort of minds we lost. Well, my sort of mind, the gay mind. For if 1/2 the babies were boys, that's 25,000,000 boys. And since -- by whatever reason anyone proposes 5% of boys are gay (there's 106 boys born for every 100 girls - the six are the gays one, I can prove it) that meant that roughly 1,250,000 gay guys were killed. You know, we gays could have used those numbers.
And perhaps if this nation, conservative and liberal alike (and remember, liberals were just as against us not that long ago) had given the political effort and financial resources, and endless blather over sissy smooching to abortion -- you all might well have ended the practice.
And now yet today -- abortion is legal and barely mentioned in the public press -- and the nation is agog yet over sissy smooching - while some heterosexuals quite willing to propose a genocide or forced cure upon us to solve the problem that ails them. Ain't that ducky? Maybe some hunter should change his focus the next time he talks of Bible verses to gay men's fashion magazines, ya' think?

ReplyDelete"Planned Parenthood was founded on..."
Margaret Sanger, the patron saint of Planned Murderhood, established the pro-abort movement for the purpose of "Ethnic Hygiene"!!!! In her writings she encouraged "colored" preachers to keep their... well, I'll just cut and paste; "We should hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with social-service backgrounds, and with engaging personalities. The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal. We don’t want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population, and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members." (bold type mine)
If the "colored population" actually was informed, I wonder if they would have the "cajones" to DO something about it?
@PRY- I don't personally agree with what Robertson said, but he was simply stating his own beliefs (in answer to a direct question) - not trying to force them on anyone else. He also said that he believes Christians should love everyone, and that it will be God who sorts folks out in the hereafter. I can't take exception to that.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous- Sincere thanks. This isn't a cartoon/commentary I had to work to create; it was a fully formed thought when I was thinking about the message of "It's A Wonderful Life." And I'm glad that it struck a responsive chord.
@Colby- To put it bluntly, abortion has probably spared the world of many assholes. But who among us is fit to make that judgement before a person is even born? And just for the sake of argument, let's say a LOT of aborted fetuses would have become assholes. It only takes one special individual to change MANY lives - perhaps millions or billions.
Abortion as a form of birth control is unacceptable to me. So pardon the hell out of me if I suggest that people should stop having sex with people they don't potentially want to raise a child with.
And good for you and your grandson for beating the abortion reaper.
@John the Econ- I'd actually love to see that happen. Go ahead and let the GOP embrace planned parenthood and abortion as "the elimination of undesirables." The Left would suddenly embrace adoption and even sexual discretion.
Regarding Barry and his R&R... (long pause; 3 minutes without being able to come up with a way to finish the sentence without an obscenity.)
@Jim Hlavac- If it's a given that humans are going to have sex, I have no problem endorsing acts which can't result in babies over acts which result in the killing of a fetus.
I'll throw in my usual codicil: I don't care who loves who (consenting adults, of course), but I'm against promiscuity and lack of responsibility in any orientation.
@Bruce Bleu- It's remarkable that Planned Parenthood is so exalted by the Left, but was absolutely founded with the idea of killing the "coloreds" before they got big enough to become the "white man's burden."
It's a shame that more people don't know that.
Hi Stilton, I posted this entire blog in todays E-Blast (Sun the 22nd), and today of all days, the Blast was rejected by your server.

Glad tidings of great joy in Oregon...
ReplyDeleteThe Oregon state health insurance exchange is all but admitting failure and sending Oregonians elsewhere for insurance. Oregonlive.com writes:
Oregon's troubled health insurance exchange began robocalling applicants Friday, warning them that if they don't receive enrollment confirmation by Monday, they should seek coverage elsewhere for Jan. 1.
"If you haven't heard from us by Dec. 23, it is unlikely your application will be processed for Jan. 1 insurance coverage," a woman's voice on the pre-recorded call from Cover Oregon says. "If you want to be sure you have insurance coverage starting Jan. 1, you have other options."
It's yet another sign that the health insurance exchange's technological breakdowns will prevent some -- perhaps many -- Oregonians from getting subsidized coverage Jan. 1, despite Gov. John Kitzhaber's previous assurances otherwise. Out of more than 65,000 applicants, the exchange reports enrolling nearly 30,000, but only about 11,000 of them in private insurance plans.
The calls also suggest the exchange's problems will prevent many of those individuals from receiving tax credits or subsidies in January, even though they qualify for them.
Yet another wretched failure of Obamacare.
