Barack Obama recently boasted that he'd be unilaterally (and, oh yeah, illegally) changing our nation's laws using nothing but his pen and his phone. And for once he was actually telling the truth.
The president just issued yet another change to Obamacare, this time delaying the law's employer mandate until 2016 for companies with between 50 and 99 employees. This means that those companies can now refuse to give their employees health insurance with no penalties whatsoever.
Of course, this boon to business came with a hidden cost which was also scrawled by the president's pen. In order to qualify for this exemption, employers cannot fire or lay off any employees. Moreover, if any employer is forced by economic need to still lay off employees, they will be required by Obama's new imaginary law to make an official declaration to the IRS that Obamacare was not a consideration in the downsizing, or face penalties. Of course, this declaration doesn't have to be true - it's only actual purpose is to give this administration documentation proving that Obamacare isn't a job-killer.
But that's not the only inkblot-related news (think "Rorshach and Awe") coming from Obama's pen. Because last Friday, he also unilaterally changed our immigration law - which might as well be called Obamagration at this point - to make it easier for people to enter our country if they've previously given (ahem) "limited" support to terrorists or terror groups.
This flagrantly unconstitutional method of changing laws is now being used so regularly by the president that Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (quite likely the dumbest woman in Texas) has stated that the real work of Democrats in Washington is now writing up Executive Orders for the president to sign.
Fortunately, the framers of the Constitution foresaw the possibility of this sort of governmental abuse, and created a system of checks and balances which the Republicans could use to set things right if they were vertebrates. Which, unfortunately, they're not.
Not only are they letting Barry get away with his anti-Constitutional imperial declarations without challenge, but yesterday Speaker of the House John Boehner and a group of anti-Tea Party GOP members voted with the Dems to pass a bill raising the debt ceiling yet again without asking for anything in return...except higher spending. Take that, King Barack!
For some reason, perhaps associated with cheap whiskey and the unflagging belief that it's always 5 o'clock somewhere, thinking about Barack Obama's magic ink-filled pen has caused Hope n' Change to conjure up memories of Jimmy Durante singing "Inka-Dinka-Doo."
We just wish there was someone - anyone - in authority who would look at the president's executive orders and say "Inka-Dinka-Don't."
I don't know about you, but I'm getting real well known at the liquor store. This crap ain't helping.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that congress is doing absolutely nothing to curb the Executive branch's flagrant violation of the separation of power makes them just as guilty of destroying our Constitution and our country as O'beelzebub himself. The question is: why are they allowing this to happen? Are they really that afraid of being labeled racist, or have they all been bought off by the globalist New World Order? Could they possibly all have skeletons in their closets that Der Führer has learned of through his NSA spying and is therefore blackmailing them, or do the Republicans just hope to one day have their own dictator in the White House? Whatever the reason, with very few exceptions such as Rand Paul and Ted Cruz, the whole lot of them should be taken out and shot for treason.
ReplyDeleteDitto on the treason. As for the Why....they want to be reelected and, I think, are misjudging the mood of at least half of their constituents.
DeletePlease, Sir, may I have another? seems to be the Republican's new mantra.
ReplyDeleteAt this point, I don't have a problem with Geoff's solution.
@Stilton: Surely you don't give SJL enough credit - I think she sets the standard for hair-crown induced stupidity for the nation. As an ex-Houstonian, have seen SJL's ballot stuffing, busing illegals/others from poll to poll and other digging up the dead tactics to remain in office. I used to say no one was useless - they could always be used as a bad example, but SJL has destroyed that premise.
ReplyDelete@Geoff: Why waste a bullet - pitchforks and bonfires come to mind, slower and more fun, course DHS will have bought up all the bullets anyway to prevent the uprising. Downside, we'll probably have to fill an EPA impact statement, upside, we can roast marshmallows - be the first time anyone in Congress has actually contributed something useful.
I really don't know how much more I can take. Every morning I feel like I wake up with a hair shirt on....and underwear....then I spend all day in an iron maiden....then after work I spend an evening stretched out on the rack. Weekends, drawn and quartered.
ReplyDeleteThree more years, then Hillary.
Happy Happy Joy Joy!

My two bits, it's all about the 2014 midterms. With few exceptions (you mentioned a couple), they are in "Don't make waves..." mode. They believe, and likely correctly, that the sheeple will vote for them if they pretend to be nice to each other for a while.
I almost tend to agree with their strategy, IF (BIG IF) it results in a big Conservative super-majority, and they immediately start repealing every last bit of O'Liar's socialist BS magic pen laws in January 2015. Then, in February, they impeach the lying bastard. Lord knows they have constitutional grounds, and proof out the ying yang.
I believe in the tooth fairy too.
Hmmm. Didn't Ayn Rand's fictional government outlaw firing people?
ReplyDeleteIf the RNC plan is to be "nice" for the upcoming elections, the result will be as it was in 2012: The conservative right will sit it out again and that is a recipe for disaster. I include myself in the conservative right group, but I held my nose and voted against Øbama and the lefts' agenda. Had the multitude who sat it out done the same, the left would have lost the Presidency (he got fewer actual votes in 2012 than he did in 2008) and their senate majority (IMHO). Now, we pay the price with an imperial president and so many more liberal justice appointments yet to come.
ReplyDeleteMy prediction: if the RNC continues on their current path, nothing changes in 2014, except that the Republicans will lose seats in the House and Senate as conservative voters sit out the election ... again.
Exactly right.
DeleteLike most of you, I also can't figure out why nobody is standing up to barry and his blatantly unconstitutional actions. It can't be fear of the IRS - there's “not even a smidgen of corruption” at that agency.
ReplyDeleteAs for Sheila Jackson Lee, I had the misfortune to live in that creature's district for several years. She's not only the dumbest woman in Texas, she's a strong contender for dumbest woman in the USA.
Emmentaller - Yes, it certainly did...
ReplyDeletehttp://conservapedia.com/Directive_10-289
"inka-dinka-do"? How quaint. This dumba*s actually sang this yesterday: http://www.mediaite.com/online/speaker-boehner-sings-uncle-remus-song-after-announcing-debt-ceiling-deal/
ReplyDelete@rickn80r- Hey, when the national meltdown finally hits and people are rioting in the streets, it'll be good to have friends in the liquor business.
ReplyDelete@Geoff King- While I understand your frustration (to put it mildly) I'm going to have to ask you to tread lightly regarding any statements which could be construed as endorsing violence against our political enemies. Of course, you were quite specific about "treason," which implies legal charges, a fair trial, conviction, and appropriate sentencing involving a brick wall and a blindfold. So I'm leaving the post up, but let's all try to avoid giving undue fodder for the NSA to assign a second drone to my office (grin).
@Bobo the Hobo- Within the confines of our legal system, neither do I.
@Grumpy Curmudgeon- I'm guilty of making the assumption that in my home state of Texas, everything is bigger, better, and most. Ergo when I say Sheila Jackson Lee is the dumbest person in Texas, it should be implied that she is therefore the dumbest person in the nation.
Regarding the bonfire idea, it has a nice ironic quality about it: the group always asking for "s'more" could actually be s'mores.
@TrickyRicky- Wish I had a snappy rejoinder for you, but I feel the same way.
@Colby- Clearly the GOP is thinking that if they play nice (by rolling over) it will help them win votes. I disagree. They're alienating the only voters who actually give a rat's rear about restoring this country to a working model.
@Emmentaler- I think "fictional government" is what we have right now.
@Judi King- Isn't it funny (or, uh, not) how "reelected" is increasingly a repulsive word?
@Chuck- I agree with you. Are we supposed to think that the GOP can play possum, win enough votes to take the Senate, and then suddenly they'll grow gargantuan testicles and start governing in a tough conservative manner? Sorry, I can't swallow that.
@CenTexTim- I'm afraid that the reason Barry is getting away with his illegal usurpation of power is that he's frequently using it to suppress the damaging effects of his own legislation. If the GOP stands up to him and says he can't postpone the employer mandate again, then employers get hurt, hiring goes down - and the Left and the media would blame the GOP for it.
And so the GOP does nothing. This will be an endlessly repeating cycle until the true Right starts making bold stands which are based on what the country needs, and not what the polls favor.
@Pete(Detroit)- The Fahrenheit 451 firemen are on their way to your location to burn your books. Do not resist.
@mlester101- Oh, for the love of... Boehner sang "Zippity Doo Dah" after announcing his cave-in?! Perhaps he was thinking of what he asked the Dems for in return.
I'd also like to make a tar baby joke about now, but won't do it until Guantanamo really is closed.
Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.
ReplyDeleteH. L. Mencken
Why is Dear Leader not facing impeachment for all of this extra-consitutional overreach and the various "smidgens" of corruption? Because the voters deserve Dear Leader. The founders expected that Congress would be the seat of power, the president would merely execute their will. But for decades, the imperial presidency has marched on and we are to blame.
For the love of Pete! How many imbeciles in Washington does it take to run this country? *sigh* Methinks the Dems and Pubs are all standing in awe at HRH the demon potus just like this:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LGA2EpdVKY
@Chuck,
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean, "WE"? I haven't vote for a Demo_Rat for anything for a decade or more--and I sincerely regret having done that. A couple pollsters have called me lately and I tell them I WON'T vote for a Demo_Rat, not even for dog killer (Firesign Theater joke)!!
@JustaJeepGuy - you meant "@Chuck EF", yes?
ReplyDelete@Stilton: the scary thing is this government is very, very real. And I think we all now understand the open mike gaffe "I'll have more flexibility after the election...", hey? Since he need not concern himself with getting back into office, his pen is supreme.
ReplyDelete@Chuck,
ReplyDeleteD'oh!! Yes, I did mean Chuck Ef. Why did I not remember that there can be more than one Chuck?? And, I wouldn't vote for a Demo_Rat if Satan himself were running against her!!
And to all, I would not vote for a Demo_Rat either. The "we" in my comment was rhetorical - not literal. I meant "the electorate" - in other words, all of those idiots out there that DO vote for Demo_Rats. But let's face it, the Repub_Rats aren't much better these days and that is another aspect of what I was getting at. The Repub_Rats don't have the backbone to be a real opposition - because "the electorate" are mostly idiots. Am I cynical or what?
ReplyDeleteDisclaimer: The term "idiot" by definition includes no one who loyally reads hopeandchangecartoons.com. A thoroughly self-serving disclaimer if ever there was one ...
It's time to use a pen and put him in the Pen.
ReplyDelete#ImpeachObama
Although I've never found much to admire in Boehner's leadership or lack of same, I do agree with this tactic of allowing the debt to rise without a budget fight this time. The Dems were counting on the Republicans to force a shutdown of the government so they could shift the focus of the fall elections away from Obamacare and onto those "mean old Republicans" once again taking bread out of the mouths of children. I can assure you that no one is more disappointed with the Speaker's decision then are the treasonous scum in the Democrat Party. The Fall elections will now be focused on Obamacare and Comrade Zero's mishandling of the economy and the "Ship of State". The budget battle is one the Republicans cannot possibly win given the news media's love affair with "The Chosen One". Best to pick a fight you can win and a hill worth dying for.
ReplyDelete@Chuck Ef, JustaJeepGuy etc...
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, it's not even so much that they're spineless as that many of them have wet dreams at the idea they themselves (or their party) can one day hold the magic pen and issue their own royal decrees. After all, it will then be blessed by "precedent," which is much more binding than mere laws (even the Constitution).
Thanks for the head's up, Stilt - fortunately what w/ the snow forcing cars to park further from the curb, the streets are too narrow for Michael Moore's wide side to fit down... (and yes, have actually read the original Bradbury - just couldn't resist a jab at the Great White Whale)
ReplyDeleteAnd Thanx, Cookie! Love you too!

Term limits was something that I used to view as unnecessary since the vote was the best tool for removing the chaff but now it seems that there is no other way to rid the system of career politicians. Two terms in the house and senate then you're gone. And no retirement or lifetime benefits. Government service was never meant to be a ticket to "Easy Street". All these weasels in both parties need to be sent home. I'm tired of seeing the Constitution used like toilet paper by these scoundrels.
ReplyDeleteJust further evidence that suggests that it really is this President's mission to destroy the American economy.
ReplyDeleteFor the last 5 years, I've argued that the biggest problems preventing any real economic "recovery" from taking place in America is the endless stream of "temporary" fixes to problems real and imagined issued by every branch of government, and the executive branch acting outside the law. All of this activism just adds to the unpredictability, making it literally impossible to make long term plans and investments. Obama has just given medium-size businesses another reason to question why they even bother.
This may be the closed yet to Obama signing an actual "Point 1" of Ayn Rand's "Directive 289":
http://theexplanationproject.wikia.com/wiki/Directive_10-289
ObamaCare is a twofer: It's bad law that is destructive on the face of it, and then the Administration just piles on to the pain and uncertainty.
And then there's the banana republic aspect of it all; Special interests get "waivers". Rules change based on political needs instead of reality. Is the law screwing up our re-election prospects? No problem; we'll just postpone it until later.
So now if I lay someone off, I have to swear out a statement to the IRS? Then what? Take it on faith that some functionary at the IRS will believe me, or live in fear that he's googling my name to make sure that I've haven't expressed any Tea Party sympathies?
Or even worse: Is the agenda here to further squash support of the Tea Party going into another election?
And then it's just plain difficult for any writer to adequately express in writing the extreme of idiocy of legislators like Sheila Jackson Lee. Fortunately, her idiocy needs little elaboration.
As for the GOP: Why don't they just change their symbol to a slightly smaller, sickly looking donkey and be done with it? I'm quite tempted to write all of my representatives and tell them that I'll be voting exclusively for Democrats this year. After all, just what is the point of supporting Republicans anymore? At least some Democrats have some balls.
Is there NOBODY who is concerned that the Executive Branch of our Republic is demanding that people's FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS are being CANCELLED? American people are being told to LIE by this mendacious bastard, or face "getting their prostate checked" by the most feared entity on EARTH!!! This worthless poseur, (who has a Wookiee fetish), can OSCULATE MY POSTERIOR if he expects ME to be prosecuted for perjury for TELLING THE TRUTH!!!! PLEASE... someone set up the court time for me to play this faggot one-on-one b'ball... I will foul him so hard his GRANDCHILDREN will be born with bruises! I've HAD it with this maggot!!!!
ReplyDeleteWiregrass;
As has been opined before... term limits are absolutely necessary... one in office, and one in PRISON!!!!!!!!!!!
Juan the Econ;
No, I'm NOT a racist, but I just thought that having an oreo who sells himself as a "black man" with NO discernible abilities running a nation might justify the term "Watermelon Republic".
AND, someone could get on the blower to SNL and tell them that the parody name for SJL should be She-dumberthanahouseplant Jerkson Leffmybrainsatdedoe. I'm SURE they are anxious to get to work exposing this absolute MORON to their audience! To accuse her of having "shit-for-brains" is a slam against every self-respecting turd on Earth!
I wonder many times just how long it will be before that all powerful supreme pen signs executive orders that suspend elections, end term limits(for "The Wahn's")elite cadre, and declare all truly patriotic Americans as "enemies of the state" to be imprisoned, or worse, on sight?
ReplyDeleteHistory is filled with accounts of countries that thought that would never happen to them.
Mr. The Econ: We have no need for Google. We already know every emanation from every electronic device around you - both those you purchase and control; and those we've planted and you don't.
