Helter Shelter

As our nation's anniversary approaches, it's hardly surprising that so many Americans are thinking about bunkers rather than burgers for the big holiday. After all, it's been a rough couple of weeks thanks to the Supreme Court, Isis, and the other usual troublemakers.

The Supreme Court is leading the pack, with recent decisions which are amazingly consistent with the Liberal agenda if not the bruised and battered Constitution. According to the Court, you can now be guilty of racial discrimination even if you didn't practice racial discrimination. Obamacare is now sure to finish off the private health insurance industry thanks to John Roberts pulling a decision out of his Supreme hiney.

The ruling affirming gay marriage came as a shock to many (full disclosure: Hope n' Change has supported gay marriage longer than Hillary and Barry combined, but on a state by state basis - not the crazy judicial overreach seen here. This decision really will be a threat to traditional marriage and traditional religious protections.)

But wait, there's more! The rascally Justices then blocked a law which would make it harder to abort little cowboys and cowgirls in the Lone Star State, and then followed up with a decision saying that the states will now be forced to accept Federal voter registration forms for Federal elections even though the Feds don't bother to verify the citizenship of the applicants.

Meanwhile, ISIS has been going on a killing spree overseas to celebrate the one-year anniversary of their caliphate, and uncharacteristically strong warnings (violet level on the new rainbow threat assessment scale) are being issued by Homeland Security, saying that there is a significantly increased risk of terror here at home during 4th of July celebrations.

Far less important, but still threatening, the Left has discovered the jihad-style joys of banning offensive imagery under threat of professional death (just ask the poor cop who lost his job for wearing a pair of confederate flag boxer shorts). Mind you, Hope n' Change has no particular love for the Confederate flag - but now that the liberals have tasted blood, you just know they're going to go on a banning frenzy.

For all of these reasons and more, the notion of hunkering down underground with friends, family, a clattering generator, and some tasty emergency rations on Independence Day doesn't seem like such a terrible idea. And remember, after displaying your American flag in the yard and taking a few moments to thank all of those who've fought for our liberties, there's no better way to celebrate the fourth than with a fifth. Not this year, anyway.

Bolivian bus vacation for the Supreme Court.

  1. We need to get a strong conservative President from the upcoming election or all is lost for America. There will be no Constitution, no rule of law, no hope and nowhere to escape to.

  3. Obama says he has a lot to do in his last (Thank God) 18 months. I'm guessing
    it involves crushing regulations, executive orders, vacations for his "wife"
    some golf and attempting to appoint himself to the Supreme court. Bunkers, food
    guns, ammo are starting to sound pretty good and I remember when there were bunkers
    in the late 50's and early 60's but that was from a foreign, not domestic threat.

  4. As this may quite possibly be the last time we are allowed to fly the American flag and celebrate the 4th of July, I say we should party hard, pack heat, and dare the US government created and supported ISIS terrorists to mess with us.

  7. The Feral Gov.,in all 3 branches, has assumed Total Control over the States and We the Sheeple. The flag and assorted symbols belong to the Feral Gov. Tyrants, We have only the freedom to Obey.
    I am disgusted at the sight of people stuffing their mouths and going ooh aah over meaningless fireworks. The USSA is Not my country, Government is not the country.
    I bought a Confederate flag for the first time and am flying it from my porch.
    Amazing how soldiers dead for 150 years still terrifies these ProgreSSives. The mere idea of any overt resistance to the Ferals must be banned. The people, "bitterly clinging" to your Bibles and Guns are going to get it hard now.
    The Soopreme Jesters just outlawed "The Law". Does anyone really think the 1st and 2nd Amendments will not follow the 10th and others into the dust bin of history?

  8. Yes, lots of bad news lately, even fast and furious, but be not dismayed, my dear friends.
    In light of the promises of God in 1 Nephi 16-17 wherein He will not suffer the wicked to destroy the righteous, who will be preserved, even if necessary to the destruction of their enemies by fire. (Paraphrased). Furthermore, Isiah 32:17-18 and 54:13-14 (KJV) contain
    more promises to the righteous, as well as Leviticus 26:1-13, As for the wicked, who will
    not abide His counsel, verses 16-39 lists their rewards, beginning with terror! Not good.

    So our task, should we choose it, is to be righteous enough to qualify for His promises
    of deliverance. It's not without sacrifice, but it is so very worth it.

  9. I'm not even reptilian, (a lawyer), and understand the wording that Thief Justice Roberto wrote had more to do with the self-esteem of those whose sexual affections revolve around anuses rather than the actual LAW!
    Homosexuals will NEVER find happiness in sexual pursuits, so, to make laws based on their LUST will always require addendum. We might as well have a law passed that says obese people have a RIGHT to never stop eating, then force everybody else to provide the food.

  10. It used to be a holiday where we celebrated our freedom. Today, it feels like I'm watching collapse all about me.

    I agree with @Stilton; I'm not a fan of courts unilaterally inventing rights. But it's been going on for quite some time.

    But if you want to tweak your Progressive friends this weekend, consider this: The Court used Section 1 of the Fourteen Amendment to justify its argument, which reads: Amendment XIV Section 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside. No state shall make or enforce any law, which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

    What the court has done is to expand the Due Process Clause to personal choices central to individual dignity and autonomy. So it's only logical that other constitutionally guaranteed rights, such as possessing a weapon should be universally respected as well. So a concealed carry permit should now apply everywhere as well. Just wait until the first test case for this hits the courts.

    What gets me is that Obama & Hillary, who mere months ago were against gay marriage now victoriously celebrate it, and will get a pass. Call it "Democratic Privilege". It's like the so-called "white privilege", except just real and more hypocritical.

    Speaking of "white privilege", I'm over it. Just when I thought it had run its course, the South Carolina shooting brought it back with a vengeance. How about a conversation on race instead of a lecture? Instead, let's talk about "black privilege". This is the notion that a black person should be able to walk down the middle of the street high on pot after robbing a store, and then assaulting a police officer with the expectation that absolutely nothing bad should happen as a consequence. Or how about the notion that a murderous riot-inducing openly irrepentant tax evader should regularly get treated to dinner at the White House.

    What's been amusing me lately are the memes the Progressives have been putting forth. They're criticizing the GOP for having too many choices. At least the Republicans will be getting a wide choice of candidates to represent them. As the party that seems destined to coronate the country's most transparently corrupt mega-millionaire, it seems they don't think much of "choice" outside of the sexual realm.

    I thought Ramadan was supposed to be peaceful. Or so Obama tells us. I guess that's not the case.

    And finally, Greece: The Greeks have become the perfect model of hopeless welfare state. Spoiled brats now in a rage because the Germans have grown tired of endlessly propping up their fundamentally bankrupt economy. Even if the EU were to totally wipe out Greece's debt, Greece would still be fundamentally bankrupt. The unfortunate reality is that people can't expect to enjoy a 1st-world standard of living when they can retire in their 50s after working 20-so hours a week for 30-some weeks a year while not paying enough taxes to fund 30-year vacation retirements.

    But don't get too smug. Greece's current debt-per-capita is around $40,000. Not pretty. But then again, the US debt-per-citizen under Obama is now pushing $60,000. At least they get to live on pretty islands.

  12. Leaving the marriage issue to the states wouldn't work either. How could you be considered married in one state and not the state next door? It's just not logical or workable. Just because voters approve something, doesn't make it right or good for a society. (Although I admit it's better than court-imposed baloney.). As Benjamin Franklin said, "Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become more corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters."

    As a Catholic, I believe God will triumph, of course. But in the meantime, I mourn the loss of our country and who knows how many souls.

  13. @Geoff King. And you also notice (for the first time in IMO): This year's fireworks celebrating Independence Day come with two nationally broadcast warnings. It's no long about don't get your fingers blown off. NOW it's about (1) DANGEROUS air pollution and (2) Fireworks may have a bad effect on veterans with PTSD.

    This really is looking more and more like an all-out conspiracy against the old American ways.

  17. Yup, @Joseph ET. Told you that was coming. The funny part is that the pro-gay lobby swore that wasn't going to be next. But I don't see how it couldn't be.

    FYI: I don't have a problem with it. After all, our Muslim friends will be all for it and it's well-supported biblically. If you like quoting Leviticus as an argument against homosexuality, then you have to accept polygamy as equally sanctioned.
