The Bill With No Birth Certificate
Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, who has frequently been credited as the "author" of the sweeping Obamacare health bill, now admits that even he did not read the entire bill before it was voted into law by the Democrats.
"I don't think you want me to waste my time to read every page of the healthcare bill," said Baucus, claiming that most of the bill contained "statutory language" (ie, new laws) which had been inserted by nameless "experts."
And in the immoral words of Nancy Pelosi, the Democrats "had to pass the bill so you can find out what's in it." And so they could find out what's in it. Just like college students who are losing access to low cost health insurance are finding out what's in it. Just like senior citizens who are losing their Medicare Advantage plans are finding out what's in it. Just like working people across the country who are losing their company-sponsored healthcare plans are finding out what's in it.
But oddly, there is one group that clearly benefits from the "out of this world" costs of Obamacare: aliens.
Coincidence? We think not.

Passing a bill without reading it should be illegal! I *rarely* cry "There Oughta be A Law!", but $h1t like this just cries out for legislative reform.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we can start this November!
It seems that Baucus authored the healthcare bill in much the same manner as 0bama authored his two biographies.
ReplyDeleteI cannot understand how these idiots can possibly think that it's OK to pass a bill without any idea of what's in it. Just doesn't fit the job description. And then to TALK about it?!
I've an idea! From now on, anyone who drafts a bill must create a test from it. No legislator is allowed to vote on the bill unless they can first pass a test that shows they read and understand it. Not only would such a measure eliminate the "I didn't read it" aspect of Washington life, but I bet it will severely limit the number of new laws on the books each session - and the fewer things these putzes can foist upon us, the better off we are...
I doubt anyone read it. And why should they have? It doesn't matter. It's all designed to fail and crash what is left of the private health marketplace so that a true single-payer system can be put in its place. Reading the details would have been a complete waste of time.
ReplyDelete"waste my time to read every page"
ReplyDeleteWhy would reading a bill he supposedly "authored" be a waste of time? And even it it were a waste of time to read every page of the legislation they pass, isn't that why we pay them?
Izzat alien in the cartoon illegal??? If he is...he's covered.
ReplyDeleteAww, c'mon now. It WOULD be a waste of his valuable time to read the bill.
ReplyDeleteHe has lobbyists to meet and get "for your timely consideration" plain white envelope money from. He has free concert and sporting event tickets to use. He has parties and drinking and smokers to attend. He needs to raise campaign funds for his next election bid. He needs to convince his "comrades in crime" the earmarks for his district are not really earmarks at all. He needs to line his pocketbook with lots of under-the-table cash donations so he can leave congress a multi-millionaire in case he isn't re-elected.
Give the guy a break...he's got lots on his plate besides having to read some "stoopid" bill written by "stoopid" people for "stoopid" people who elected him and "stoopbama."
Glad I didn't vote for him, otherwise I'd be "stoopid" too...or not.
Emmentaler,
ReplyDeleteHuzzah! on the idea of a test, but you, if anybody, should know that only honest people take tests honestly. Maybe they should be required to read every word aloud on Fox News or something.
I often wonder how different our government system would be if the internet had existed in 1780. The only reason we have representatives is our founders recognized that it would be too cumbersome to let everyone vote on everything. We actually have that technology today! Who need congress to actually vote on things? Let everybody vote! Let the idiots write stupid ass bills that they don't read, but let us decide.
I say, yeh we got the internet now...let the congressman stay home and have meetings online, lower their stinking salary so only those who actually want to do some good will run for office. Maybe they will stay in touch with real people a little better, plus they cant get behind those closed doors with lobbyists and all.
ReplyDeleteRemember, our reps used to only go to DC occasionally way back when, I am all for that again! Down with career politicians!!!
Saw a great bumper sticker in an email today: "If 0bama is the answer, how stupid was the questions?" Beautiful, that!
ReplyDeleteColby, I hear you. There is no way around it: throw the bums out!
And on the internet, since I have first hand experience with "the dark side of the net" and knowing how easy it is for them to break into my systems, I believe the libs would simply hack and game any system put in place to allow direct voting. Or they'd hire those who can.
Having them stay home and hold their sessions via webcam is an interesting idea. Lessee... Comcast internet is about $60/month... A really nice Logitech web cam is about $150... Pay them each five grand a year plus 0.001% of any amount they manage to cut from the federal budget through their personally-authored legislation (REAL cuts; not the shuck and jive "savings" of monies we never had and never spent, anyway...). If it goes to plan, they'll be crazy wealthy! And so will we...
Readers- I'm impressed that over the course of a single day, you've managed to develop a new and improved system for running our representative government!
ReplyDeleteThe only bit of technology I'd add to your suggestions above would be an electronic ankle-monitor so we could make sure the public was protected from politicians!
