Father Knows Best

As the US workforce shed yet another 85,000 jobs in December, only one thing kept economic experts from declaring this to be a "jobless recovery"...and that's the fact that along with the joblessness, there doesn't seem to be a recovery, either.
Many experts do agree, however, that the policies of the Obama administration and the economic uncertainties associated with the Democrat's healthcare bill are combining to actually kill jobs in unprecedented numbers.
In fact, over 3.2 million jobs have been lost since the alleged "stimulus bill" was passed, and the only reason the unemployment rate is currently shown at 10% instead of 17% or more is because the "Hope and Change" administration no longer bothers to count the unemployed who have given up all hope and stopped looking for work. But the news isn't all bad. The government has been on a huge hiring spree, and nearly 1-in-5 government workers now earns $100,000 or more a year!
On second thought, maybe the news is all bad.

Size Matters
Click Cartoon for Larger Size if you want, But you don't have to anymore!
A frequent comment from readers of Hope n' Change has been "why don't you make the cartoons bigger? Conservatives are getting squinty and it's your fault!"
Looking into how to do that, we recently discovered something called "HTML," which we had always assumed meant "Hate Mail," but actually turns out to be a website programming language which, surprisingly, is no harder to learn than Sanskrit!
And so, after reading a book called "HTML for Dummies Who Even Other Dummies Call Dummies," we present the new and improved Hope n' Change Cartoons website. Bigger cartoons, fewer ads, more breathing room, and constantly updated news links in the sidebar instead of all the way at the bottom (did you even know there had been topical news links at the bottom of the page? Neither did anyone else!)
Your comments on the new look are welcome, and please let us know if you encounter any problems. Chances are we won't be able to fix them, but you never know...we haven't finished that "Dummies" book yet!

Many Are Cold
Click Cartoon for Larger Size
Okay, Hope n' Change was skeptical that the Copenhagen climate summit could really do anything about "global warming." Yet only weeks after Obama spoke and Al Gore read eco-poetry, the US and much of the world has been plunged into the coldest winter in decades. Clearly, these political giants have accomplished their goal to cool the Earth...and then some.
In fact, many people are freezing to death...businesses and power plants are shutting down...and record-books are being rewritten as snow and ice pile up to unprecedented levels.
Hope n' Change deeply apologizes for our previous skepticism.

Get The Hose

Despite Barack Obama's solemn (and frequently repeated) promise that Healthcare negotiations would be held on C-SPAN for the American public to watch, he's now meeting in complete secrecy with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid to massage their healthcare bills. So to speak.
Presumably, the process isn't pretty...and it's obvious that the participants feel that the Healthcare bill's final passage is more likely if the American people don't get a chance to find out what's in it before the Democrats vote.
Hope n' Change would like to encourage the president to prove that he's not a liar, and conduct the negotiations in public. Unless, of course, his little managed care ménage à trois is doing something to be ashamed of..?

Oh Ye Of Liberal Faith
Click Cartoon for Larger Size
When news first broke that Rush Limbaugh had been taken to a Hawaiian hospital suffering from chest pains, the Internet exploded with tweets, blog posts, and instant messages from liberals. Unfortunately, it seems that many of them were hoping and, yes, praying for Rush's death.
Even here at Hope n' Change, where we don't exactly hold liberals in the highest regard, we were surprised - and nearly sickened - by the amount and degree of hatred, ignorance, racism and blood lust expressed online. And not just from the usual small-time bloggers and twittering halfwits. No, full blown media outlets joined in the vicious attacks. The politics of the left has become bloodsport.
But Rush Limbaugh is fine, and will be back on the air starting Wednesday. We're grateful for that. And if a lot of liberals are now bitter and angry that their so-called "prayers" went unanswered, we're grateful for that too.

Mister Security
Click Cartoon for Larger Size
Barack Obama, showing his continuing ability to be on both sides of every issue, has suddenly declared that the flight 253 bomber was not only an "isolated extremist" but also a trained agent of Al Qaeda.
The president further declared that he is going to get to the bottom of the egregious lapses in protocol which allowed the underwear bomber to penetrate security, with tough consequences for anyone who failed in their responsibilities.
Yet the president still refuses to let Whitehouse staffers be questioned by Congress on how the Salahis were able to crash a state dinner, potentially endangering a number of world leaders. So once again, "tough consequences" are appropriate for the rabble...but not for members of the Obama administration.

Beach Beach Beach

Despite the fact that Barack Obama has been swimming, sunning, surfing, going to movies, and making "shave ice" runs in Hawaii, the mainstream media is growing concerned that he may not be sufficiently "recharging his batteries" because it's so very, very exhausting for him to think deep thoughts about airline security and "lone wolf" terrorists.
"We will not rest until we find all who were involved and hold them accountable," the president declared from the golf course, adding: "And I'm also looking for Nicole Simpson's real killer."
