Ear of the Beholder
At Wednesday's Memorialpalooza rally in Tucson, Barack Obama asked our nation to start speaking "in a way that heals, not a way that wounds." Which is excellent advice, even if many people couldn't hear the president over the chanting crowds, t-shirt vendors, and trumpeting vuvuzelas.
But Hope n' Change got the message loud and clear, and we're putting Mr. Obama's advice into practice immediately.
We won't accuse talk show hosts of murder, nor will we accuse politicians of anti-Semitism when they deny false allegations. We will not suggest that heartless doctors saw the feet off diabetics to make money, nor will we threaten bankers with pitchforks. We won't say that police historically act stupidly.
We won't falsely accuse any news network of saying "wouldn't it be fun to kill people we disagree with?" We will not equate military veterans with terrorists. We will not treat the word "Caucasian" as a synonym for "racist." And we will not disparage America or American values overseas.
Thank you, Mr. Obama. You've opened our eyes.
In fact, it happened right after you left our room.

Spot on!
Ira Levine had a very good show today on SiriusXM where he strung a whole lotta sound clips of Obummer together.
It was hilarious and eye-opening. HRH Obummer used language identical to what the moonbat lefties and the lamestream media are screaming about!
Sorry Barry we don't want to get along. The local hate filled nazi conservative Rush Limbaugh playing bitter gun clinging radio station played Butch Napolitano reading bible verse at the pep rally and I almost drove off the road laughing.
Jeepers, Cheeses, I'd so hoped you would link to a real news organization in search of a story about "killing people [with whom we disagree]" but, alas, it's only a link to News ("how do you like my breasts, boys?") Busted and haircut victim Noel Sheppard.
Cheeses, if you really want a story about how much fun it would be to kill people [with whom we disagree] you'd be better off starting here.
Mitch, you're back again today already? *sigh* No offense intended.
As far as the cartoon...I was gonna comment that it will be nice if the government follows its own advice so we no longer have to hear about sitting at the back of the bus, or policemen who acted stupidly, etc....
Stilton:
Really now, is Mitch the best you can do? I expect a site as good as yours to attract a higher class of troll. You deserve a Juan Williams but you get a Bill Maher (photo apropos). Sad.
Wow, Stilton, normally I would commend you for hitting the "big time" - you've obviously gotten the attention of a Soros-funded troll. Except that they are showing up everywhere - even our local blog has had a few of them pop up after the Tucson fiasco. They are usually pretty easy to call out - they all sound the same (maybe they are provided a template or script or something), their comments tend to "deflect" and they try to take the oxygen out of the room to stifle on-topic comments.
The link to Huffpo post is a giveaway - usually those trolls are smarter than that. Must have been in a rush to recruit new trolls, and in that rush, hiring standards went down.
Thanks, Alan, you helped me win the office pool on how long it would take for one of you to shout SOROS! in a crowded blog!
Don't like HuffPo? How about Politico, Newser, World News, or SodaHead?
Yeah Mitch, don't quit that day job - you may be good, but not good enough to get paid. Glad you clarified that. Thank you so much.
So, you are basically a free-lance "wanna-be" or "poser". You don't whore for money - good for you.
Also, typical leftturd logic - bring up SOROS! and that imputes to SHOUTING! Bring up anything a leftturd doesn't want to hear - it's SHOUTING!
Stilton, when is enough enough? The reason trolls don't have their own blogs is that they know no one would read them. So they hijack a blog with opposing views (and a readership) to get the attention they crave.
On the one hand, I really admire your patience, but this is getting very tiresome. If the troll at least had something to say that was even remotely on topic, it wouldn’t be quite so bad. But then, trolls aren’t interested in discussion, only disruption.
Mitch- Odd that you criticize my link as being somehow unreliable, when it takes you to a video of Maher making the statement verbatim. For a guy who claims to want firsthand information, you seem readily inclined to ignore the evidence of your own eyes and ears.
On a separate note, I'd like to congratulate you for having (or imagining) an office job that allows you not only to blog all day, but to make wagers about your blogging activities with your coworkers. Is this a union position, government job, or simply employee theft of time?
In any event, Mitch, the sparring has gone past the point of amusement. Your points lack a point (hint: Nancy Pelosi hasn't been poisoned by Beck or anyone else), and it's time to move on.
If you want to contribute opposing viewpoints based on substance (not semantics) and evidence, then your posts will remain up. But if they simply appear argumentative, they'll get deleted (hint: you've made two such posts already today).
Chuck & Others- I apologize to everyone who spends time in the comments section that I haven't pulled the bowl of kibble away from Mitch sooner.
I welcome alternative viewpoints, and rather foolishly thought that I could establish a more meaningful dialogue. After all, there are certainly liberals who read HnC and post here, and whose opinions are welcome. And there are liberal pundits who I have enornmous respect for (Mort Kondracke and Christopher Hitchens spring to mind).
People can come here to disagree...but not to be disagreeable. I'll step up the housekeeping as long as necessary and, again, apologize for the distraction.
Stilton,
Spot on.
The Prez's speech was eloquent but also very crafty, playing to our heart for the horrible death of a 9 year old.
Your comic asks just what kind of America would little Christina Taylor Green want? One of individual responsibility? Or of collective responsibility? Depending on our answer, disagreeing with the Left, we'll go right back to harsh political vitriol.
The Prez. did what he does best. Great speech, but after review, containing zero substance.
AngieComics- It was a very well-written speech but, as you point out, lacked any real substance. And there was plenty of political nuance and inference skillfully woven in... subtly making it seem insensitive and disrespectful to disagree about, well, about anything on the president's agenda.
I really do believe in the importance of "healing words" - but I also believe that the only meaningful healing of our nation's wounds will come from fiscal accountability, personal responsibility, moral accountability, and freedom. Words that promote those and similar values will always be healing... even if they need to be spoken loudly to be heard over so much meaningless noise.
Those who cannot elevate their argument will always elevate their volume. The words you speak of, Stilton, are inherently loud because they are true and rise above the screaming blather of the progressives. We only need repeat them so that future generations will never forget the truth of God's gift of liberty and the ultimate price so many have paid to keep it for us.
Mitch, the point isn't that the Left is evil and the Tea Party or Right is angelic. Rather it is that Left generally ignores its own behavior while attempting to pin such behavior on its opponents. For example,
http://www.mediaresearch.org/realitycheck/realitycheck/2011/20110111020540.aspx
points to many sourced examples of the Left hoping for the death of several of its opponents. Please point to sourced examples of Left opponents doing the same thing, especially SP. Skip the nonsense about "targeting" districts, "campaigns", and so on. Everyone from Kennedy to Goldwater has used that terminology.
Stilton,
"I really do believe in the importance of "healing words" - but I also believe that the only meaningful healing of our nation's wounds will come from fiscal accountability, personal responsibility, moral accountability, and freedom."
Can we get this in stone somewhere? Perhaps a Hope N' Change T-shirt?
Brilliant...
The Old Man- Very well put.
Mitch, a valiant effort, but dude!
Do you really think you are going to get on a conservative blog and spew a bunch of liberal vitriol and win your arguement?
Sorry, but us Americans are sick to death of the double standard by which we are judged, and we are even more sick that the judges are, more than not, smart asses like Mahrer, Olbermann, or even Paul McCartney. I don't waste my time trying to argue with Liberals, so I would think you wouldn't want to waste your time on a conservative blog.
We seldom get to hear truth coming out of our radios or TV's, so having a place like Stilton's to vent is fantastic! Please go away and find some of your like-minded buddies to pester. And, by the way, we are NOT going to sit in the back of the bus like your president wants, so get used to it.
The healing words I would most like to hear from Americans is "Sorry I voted for Obama."
Americans with traditional values will reject all this liberal nonsense, if they just pay attention...sadly, too many traditional-thinking Americans believe the crap they hear on the MSM.
Im glad you gave him the boot...his kind of thinking in NOT in the majority in this land of ours!
I guess there's no need to point out that Mitch is still not an elbow--or that Baracky Fife is still a partisan hack.
JustaJeepGuy
I'm going to play Devil's Advocate for Mitch...
I don't think Mitch is a libtard at all; I think Mitch is just a bitter little person with low self esteem who is obsessed with being the winner of any argument... He's the type that will disagree just to be disagreeable even if it's an argument he agrees with. There are some people out there that believe this type of behavior makes them superior to everyone else. (Given: Most of those people who display this personality trait are libtards - sic. Maddow, Olberman, Matthews, Shultz, need I go on?) So in Mitch's mind by emulating this type of behavior, he actually believes he is elevating his self worth through angry rhetoric, hostility, and negativity. Kind of like Jared Loughner and his posting habits on the internet.
Readers- Basically, winning political arguments one way or another is pointless...unless those arguments motivate actual and positive action. The word games and gotcha moments can be fun, but unless there's genuinely an effort to identify real problems or propose real solutions, they're just a distraction.
Although I hate to quote wisdom from a fortune cookie, a phrase that has stuck with me is "Cleverness is serviceable for everything, sufficient for nothing." That's particularly true when it comes to politics...which is why I always attempt to actually say something besides trying to get a laugh in.
Whether or not I succeed is something that can be debated. But I try to bring at least a little substance to the table every day, because I value and respect the time you readers share with me here...and am utterly serious about the state of our nation.
