Johnny Optimism
Check out Stilton Jarlsberg's other webcomic "Johnny Optimism!" Updates M-W-F!
In the face of a collapsing economy, rampant unemployment, and global instability, Barack Hussein Obama took office in 2008 promising Hope and Change. The "Hope" thing didn't really work out, but we got plenty of "Change" as everything got worse. And now, the jug-eared jackass has a second term.
That's why at Hope n' Change Cartoons, we're creating conservative smartaleckry to provide a little laughter in these strange times. Cartoons will probably be posted Monday and Wednesday, and definitely on Friday. Additionally, cartoons and graphics will be posted randomly on our Facebook page and Friday we'll add the week's postings right here to kick around in one of the greatest comments sections on the Web.Note: please feel free to repost our cartoons on your favorite blogs!
Click Cartoon for Larger Size The mainstream media found it warm, delightful, and humanizing when the president quoted his daughter, Malia, asking "Did you plug the hole yet, daddy?"
And while it's certainly possible that Obama hoped this cynical ploy would gain him some sympathy, we think it goes farther than that...and was actually Obama's attempt to cast everyone who questions his mishandling of the crisis as a naive and dewey-eyed child, who means well but can't understand grown-up complexities.
In other words, we should all shut up and let Big Daddy do all the thinking.
Meanwhile, we think Malia may have hit on something...and that citizens and the press should now start each day by asking the president what holes he has successfully plugged?
Click Cartoon for Larger Size In these strange days of "Hope n' Change," there are no acts of terror...simply "man caused disasters." And so it is that Obama's top counterterror adviser, John Brennan, is now giving Americans a lesson in grammatical etiquette to avoid giving terrorists "man caused hurt feelings."
In a recent speech, Brennan declared that America's enemies are neither "terrorism" nor "terror," and that the (ahem) violent extremists who occasionally do things like blow the living hell out of the World Trade Center are actually the victims... "of political, economic, and social forces."
But not religious forces or dogma. NooOOoooo.
Because, gosh darn it, there's nothing wrong with "jihad" and nothing wrong with "jihadists" - because jihad is "a legitimate tenet of Islam" and is, Allah be praised, "a holy struggle."
So remember when it comes to radical Islamic terrorists, if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.
Click Cartoon for Larger Size In response to the tremendous support voters across the nation have voiced for the Arizona immigration bill, and after the embarrassments of top administration officials refusing to either read or enforce the law, Barack Obama has now ordered 1200 National Guard troops to the U.S./Mexican border. And what happens next should be very interesting...
After all, the president has repeatedly said that any "visitors" backpacking across the desert shouldn't have to prove their citizenship. He's additionally made it clear that no one can be stopped based on the fact that they "look Mexican." And no part of the law can be enforced in such a way that there's even the "potential for abuse." All of which makes us wonder...once the troops arrive at the border under Obama's direction, in which direction will they be pointing their guns?
UPDATE: The State Department has issued an official clarification that the 1200 National Guard troops will have nothing whatsoever to do with enforcement of immigration laws, and will do nothing to impede illegal aliens. Presumably, then, the troops are being put in place because the Mexican drug cartels are "tired of just shooting at tin cans" with their automatic weapons when crossing the border.

But some days, there's only one story...even though it hides behind many faces and details. No matter whether we're talking foreign policy, the economy, terror, ethnic hatred, lawlessness, socialism, or ecology. And that one story is that everything points not only to America in retreat, but that this appears to be the actual goal of every policy decision which has been made by the president since entering office.
Our enemies are ascendant, our allies are alienated. Our debts have quadrupled while capitalism - this country's only source of revenue - suffers unprecedented governmental attacks. Government metastasizes while unemployment soars. Our borders have fallen, and the intelligence agencies which dare not say "islamic radicalism" aloud warn instead of the dangers posed by ordinary citizens who ask that our Constitution be honored.
A seeming lifetime ago, Democrats insisted that we "connect the dots" to get a clear picture of our nation's enemies and to try and forestall disaster. And we agree with them.
There's no better way to get a clear picture of Barack Hussein Obama.
Click Cartoon for Larger Size The world is watching nervously to see what may happen in the quickly escalating confrontation between North Korea and South Korea. Any time "all-out nuclear war with a lunatic" is on the table, it really deserves our full attention.
Unless, of course, you're Barack Obama. His foreign policy toward North Korea (and anyone else with a bad attitude) has been a powerful one-two punch of apology and appeasement. And it's had a dramatic effect. Charles Krauthammer accurately, and brilliantly, describes the dangerous changes in the world as "the fruits of weakness," as despots test their power and - finding no resistance from the United States - push a little farther and a little farther to find out where the limits are...if any.
The enemies of freedom are enjoying a new renaissance of unrestricted power, while America's former friends are scurrying to make alliances with the dominant new players on the world stage...previously known as "the bad guys."
"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." Who could have ever thought that this grim warning would eventually be codified as American foreign policy?
Click Cartoon for Larger Size The Head of the Immigration and Customs Enforment bureau (ICE) has announced that his federal agency may not even bother to process illegal aliens who are caught by the Arizona police. Not to be outdone, Janet Napolitano has announced that Homeland Security may also choose not to accept "immigrants" who are captured under the new law.
By definition, any individual ensnared by the Arizona immigration law is also guilty of breaking the federal immigration laws that ICE, in particular, is charged with enforcing. But it doesn't matter. Everyone is getting a federal "Get Out of Jail Free" card...written in Spanish.
Basically, ICE and Homeland Security are engaging in a bizarre form of racial profiling: choosing to release suspects based only on their appearance and the color of their skin.
It's not the law. It's not justice. And it's not acceptable.

Reports out of Washington this week say that new unemployment claims unexpectedly rose yet again, by the biggest margin in the past 3 months. An additional 25,000 people were added to the jobless rolls in just one week. Ouch!
In response, Democrats are hastily assembling a bill that Nancy Pelosi describes as "creating jobs, preventing outsourcing of jobs overseas, closing loopholes that corporations and wealthy individuals use for avoiding U.S. taxes, and meeting the needs of those who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own."
The new bill, expected to add an additional $200 Billion to the deficit, can numerically be expected to generate one fourth the number of net jobs created by the Democrats' previous $800 Billion jobs bill.
