Storm und Drang

It's easy if you don't pay attention to the news. Or weather. Or traffic report.
As we write this on Tuesday afternoon, we have a feeling of sick anxiety and foreboding in our stomachs. We were trying to decide whether this is due to the predictions of tornadic weather for our area today (and especially for our daughter in the Oklahoma City area), or if it was anticipating Tuesday night's primary election results.

And then it dawned on us that there's really no difference between the two. Powerful forces are at work which are likely to wreak havoc, and there's really not much we can do but wait it out and hope that no one near and dear to us gets clobbered. Then again, we hoped the same thing for the Obama administration, and look where that got us.

The parallels between twisters and elections run deep. A collision of hot air with cold facts causes massive instability, and all that collected energy has to do something pretty drastic. And in the meanwhile, we watch the news coverage to see the colors rapidly changing - whether it be precinct locations or storm fronts of varying intensity.

At Hope n' Change, we've got a healthy fear of both politicians and tornadoes. The reasons for the former are obvious; the reason for the latter is that we were raised in Indiana and had enough close calls (including saying goodbye to Mrs. Jarlsberg while under our trailer as the sirens wailed, the wind roared, and sky-tentacles of destruction raked the land around us) that our pulse quickens and our bile rises when the skies turn grey-green and the clouds begin to boil.

We'd say more, only now we're starting to scare ourselves (nervous grin). In any event, here's hoping that all of us survive the coming storms - be they meteorological or, in the case of politics, totally illogical.

May I add my Happy Birthday to your daughter and convey my appreciation and thorough enjoyment of Hope n' Change. I originally received it in a forward and once read quickly signed up as the humor and wit are unsurpassed.

What oh what could your poor daughter have done so terrible that y'all banished her to OK?
For a birthday gift I suggest time off for good behavior and returning her to Texas.
We are pulling for ya girl.

We are still working with ins adjuster from the storms 2 weeks ago and won't know what happened last night till day break. But in my trips to check the mailbox I have noticed the center of the road has appeared to have sustained absolutely no damage. However I ain't setting a chair out there there to verify the safety of that position.

Happy birthday to Daughter Jarlsberg!

Great analogy, Stilton.

Happy Birthday to your daughter. Ditto on Ementaler's "great analogy". This country is indeed in for massive storms. What is most upsetting is the stupidity of the American voters. We will probably have no choice in the election this year.

Happiest of birthdays to Daughter J! Today, the 27th, is also my wife Siouxe's b-day.
We live a short distance north of OKC. Let's just say it was an interesting evening and night.

And a most happy birthday to Daughter. And, if she's a Trump fan she got a BIG birthday present.

And another thing; is there a face in the tornado? Kind of looks like Bin Laden.....

Considering all the political blather being bandied about, I would have gone with "Storm and Dreck".
Happy B-day to Daughter Jarlsberg.

Interesting times indeed. I recognize the feeling in the pit of my somewhat ample stomach, fearing that either outcome cannot possibly be good for us.

Happy birthday to the younger Jarlsberg, she shares the day with my youngest. We will be trekking up 35 to Denton today to celebrate his 39th. Ach, where has the time gone?

Death by "politician" or "tornado"? Tough question. I guess it comes down to whether you're a remove the band-aid slowly or quickly kind of person; Do you prefer slow torture and pain spread over time, or do you just want to get it all over quickly?

Birthday blessings to Daughter Jarlsberg today! May your new year of life include excitement not related to tornadoes or ObamaCare.

That first one sure does nail it. It's a shame this country's future depends on those lacking convictions and wander where they're led.

Happy Birthday Daughter Jarlsberg from way out here in CA where we do not expect tornadoes but some light rain. We could use some heavy rains every four days for a few months but alas that will not occur. "Middle of the road" is where all the road pizzas are found.

Sincerest Congrats to the lovely Miss J on surviving another trip around the sun, w/o being voted off the island!

DrJim - what the heck has a bicycle to do w/ anything? Avoid the frick out of grumpy people men OR women, of ANY age - life's just too danged short.

Can't decide what's worse, that Hillary and The Don have such great and catastrophic flaws, or that their supporters Just Don't CARE...

Daughter Jarlsberg, remember;
Today you are the oldest you’ve ever been,
And the youngest you’ll ever be.
Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday, Ms. J. @ Fred...I see Bin Laden in the twister.....hmmmm, subliminal mind games from Dr. J??

@drjim, More importantly, stay away from grumpy old women who bark like dogs!
@Woodsterman (Odie), In Virginia, the country may suffer from those with (criminal) convictions.

Happy! Happy! to the young Jarlsberg!

@Readers- Many thanks for all of the great birthday wishes! My daughter very much enjoyed them - and so did I!

@REM1875- We had a roof inspector out about a week ago but found no significant damage from some recent 1-inch hail (fortunately it didn't last long).

And regarding those "middle of the road" voters - it seems to me that being in the middle of the road is a great way to get flattened by a semi truck. I tend to think of those "undecided voters" as the hopelessly clueless (and unfortunately influential).

Jarlsberg! ? Shouldn't that photo be of a CHEESE CAKE ?
I don't want to be there when you cut the cheese (cake) !
