The primary means by which Obama hopes to cut healthcare costs is by denying services to the elderly. Dr Ezekial Emanuel, brother of Whitehouse chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, has been appointed by the president to supervise the changes - and even HE says "Vague promises of savings from cutting waste, enhancing prevention and wellness, installing electronic medical records and improving quality are merely 'lipstick' cost control, more for show and public relations than for true change."

Strangely, AARP has essentially betrayed its membership by endorsing the healthcare plan, without telling seniors that the president plans to cut $500 billion from Medicare funding at the same time the baby boomers will be adding millions of new patients to the already underfunded system.

The government rational behind denying healthcare to seniors is that funds should only be spent on those people who might still be "productive" to society. In other words, not people who have paid taxes for 40 years...but people who can be forced to pay higher taxes for another 40 years.

What I heard, was that one proposal is to cut back on the premium the government pays for Medicare Advantage, which is significantly higher than the Medicare Fee for Services and Part D pays.

Is that what you heard?

Mitch, the president has stated his plan to cut $500 billion from ALL Medicare services for the elderly, while adding millions of new patients to the system. The president has personally suggested that under his plan, older patients will get painkillers instead of pacemakers. Healthcare bill architects Tom Daschle and Ezekiel Emanuel are both on record as saying that older Americans need to accept non-treatment as an option if they're no longer considered to be "useful" to society.

My mother was treated for breast cancer last year. Under this plan... forget it!
Yeesh, we need to treat our elders with more respect!

Mitch, if you look in the commentary section under the daily cartoons, you'll almost always find at least one hyperlink to an article with more in-depth facts.

Additionally, if you use our "search by topic" bar to find cartoons on related subjects, you can follow the hyperlinks associated with those cartoons. For instance, entering "Daschle" in the searchbox will take you to a cartoon/commentary page with citation links related to today's cartoon.
