Use the Farce



Once upon a time, candidate Barack Obama was able to make crowds cheer and faint by hitting them with meaningless bon mots like "Hope and Change," "We are the we we've been waiting for," and "You like pie?"

But now that his party is set to take a drubbing in November, the president is struggling to come up with a new catchphrase to enliven his base. We can easily imagine a Whitehouse meeting in which he demanded "get me the guys who came up with If the gloves don't fit, you must acquit!" And now, after late night brainstorming sessions and focus group testing, they've produced this polished gem: "Guard the Change."

Thud.

Obama rolled out the new slogan while addressing the Congressional Black Caucus, whom he referred to as "The conscience of the congress when you're not under ethics investigations."

The president was encouraging black voters to spread the word at barbershops, beauty shops, and churches (no doubt explaining the president's sudden desire to be seen going to church last Sunday), as well as authorizing radio ads directed at black audiences which explain, slowly and rather patronizingly, "There is an important election in November, and it is called the midterm."

While the vocabulary lesson is appreciated, we think it's too late for the president to be judged on words alone (as he was last time). Now the voters have his record, and that of the midterm Democrats, to consider.

And they're going to change his Change.

If "Guard the Change" is a polished gem, somebody doesn't know jeweler's rouge from 60 grit paper.
Maybe he just needs a lapidary czar.

Guard what change? Most of the Obama policies to day have been little more than an amplification of the failed Bush policies; massive government expansion and spending to little worthwhile result.

In fact, if Congress in desperation votes to extend the Bush tax cuts (the only undeniable success of the Bush years) then history might actually consider Obama to be the "Bush 3rd term".

During this Summer of Recovery, lots of Americans are having to Guard the Change because that's about all the money they have left in their pockets...their dollar bills are non-existent.

So, Oblah blah's new saying may just be a Freudian slip and is a sign of what's still ahead, even though the gubment said the recession ended some 14 months ago. I wonder what little burg that occurred in. Certainly not in Arizona.

The NEW counter-slogan for the Republicans leading up to November should be CHANGE THE GUARD! Bye-bye you dumbmocrats.

I think its offensive (although not surprising) that he is targeting blacks.

What would people have said if Bush went around asking all the white males to "spread the world" to reelect him???

Suzy- We're offended that anyone would encourage people to vote who don't understand what a "midterm" is. Then again, this is the same demographic who didn't know a "leader" should be.

Yeh, Obomba is quite the wordsmith...I especially like his creative touch with the Declaration of Independence...

The line is supposed to read:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

But Obama’s recitation left out an important part:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are crated equal. [Long Pause] Endowed with certain inalienable [sic] rights: life and liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

I see he went to church Sunday, as some predicted...what's his problem with the "Creator" who gives Americans these rights?

I think he deliberately left out the word "creator" to provoke the right to complain. Then he went to church to show how pointless any complaints would be. Both actions were political stunts.

When he paused, he was probably mulling over in his pea-brain if he could say Allah instead of Creator.
