That's Why It's Called "Running"

The Democrats have decided to end their alleged work in Washington a few weeks early so they can go home to campaign for the upcoming elections.

And that had to be a tough call to make, because they can't campaign on the things they've done in the past...and apparently, they don't want to campaign on what they intend to do in the near future: enabling a huge across-the-board tax hike during an economic downturn.

The higher taxes are currently scheduled to hit every taxpayer, from the lowest bracket to the highest. There will a greater "marriage penalty," a huge "death tax," and a big cut in deductions for dependent children. And small businesses, often described as the "engine of job growth" in our nation, will be taking it in the teeth...leaving them less money and less incentive to hire anyone in the foreseeable future.

The tax hikes are set to take place automatically unless our representatives in Washington vote to prevent it. Unfortunately, no such vote can take place when there's nothing in the Senate chamber except the huge cloud of dust kicked up by Democrats leaving their sinking ship.

Does anyone think that the end of "The Bush Tax Cuts" will ever become known as the "Obama Tax Hikes"?

Looks like it's going to be a long 2011. Hope you all enjoyed "Recovery Summer", because that may be the best that it's going to have been for awhile.

The Republicans had FOUR YEARS to make the tax cuts permanent-why they didn't is beyond me. It's hard not to be cynical with all of the self-serving, narcissistic, blow-hards "serving" as our representatives. I say throw 'em all out!!!

Yes, it's hard to imagine looking back on 2010 as the "good old days".

As someone who owns a VERY small independent business AND has four dependent kids...all I can say is...UGH.

I do agree...why did they put expiration on the Bush tax cuts? I guess maybe that was the only way to get bipartisan support?

NO, THE REPUBLICAN ADMINISTRATION DID NOT HAVE FOUR YEARS IN WHICH TO MAKE THE BUSH CUTS PERMANENT!! REMEMBER, THE DEMOCRATS TOOK OVER BOTH HOUSES OF CONGRESS IN THE MIDTERM, 2006 ELECTIONS!! THE REPUBS MIGHT HAVE TRIED, BUT COULDN'T GET IT DONE DUE TO THE USUAL PARTISAN POLITICS!!!

Hey genius!!!! Bush was elected in 2000, took office in 2001, and the tax cuts took effect in 2002. The GOP lost majority status in 2006. That's FOUR YEARS that they had to make the cuts permanent!!!!!

Hey, when a politician is involved in anything, just like when the guvment is involved in anything, things get very complicated. Ever been on a commitee? I have. It is very difficult to come to decisions, everyone is on his own page. That applies from the smallest church commitee all the way to the biggest commitee of all, the U S congress, only more so. A person can get elected to a post, but then the fun begins, TRYING to persuade others who dont give a whit about your deal, so you compromise, make deals, just to make something happen, and suddenly ....ta da....youre a politician just like the rest of em! I dont know if ANYONE can go to D.C. and remain unchanged in the way they do things. Ive said before, take away the huge perks, after all, they ARE 'public servants'! We just need some common sense back in government. Dont hold your breath!

And who said "When congress isn't in session they can do no harm?" The old axiom is wrong.
