A Barry Special Day

obama, obama jokes, political, humor, cartoon, conservative, hope n' change, hope and change, stilton jarlsberg, coffee couple, inauguration day, trump, osama, 2017

Hope n' Change can't blame our coffee drinking friends for indulging in a bit of nostalgia on this very special day - something we'll be doing more of here next week as we tie up loose ends.

But today is about celebration. Celebrating the inauguration of a new President, who brings promise of a more hopeful (albeit no less colorful) future. Celebrating what is almost certainly the worst day of Hillary Clinton's life...which we hope will translate into many godawful days for Bill Clinton during his remaining STD-ridden years.

But mostly we're celebrating the fact that Barack Hussein Obama (aka Barry Soetoro) is no longer president, agitator-in-chief, and most prolific and profligate vacation-taker in the world. He has been an almost unendurable blight and curse on our nation, and will no doubt continue to be - albeit (finally!) as a private citizen.

We'll have a lot more to say next Monday after we've had a chance to reflect on this incredible and long-awaited day. But for now, we'd like to express our sentiments in a way that words simply can't handle. Which is why Hope n' Change is proud to present...

VIDEO: THE OBAMA LEGACY DISPOSAL TEAM

Best wishes, hugs, and hearty handshakes to all Hope n' Change readers on this glorious occasion - and please join us in drinking a toast to a new day of real hope for change!

Stilton,

That was by far the most "bitchen" video I have ever seen. You have been an oasis in a dry, dry desert for all of us dehydrated Conservatives.

Please everyone pray for our new President Donald Trump everyday. God just gave us one more chance.

Stilt,

Your emails have been a Godsend for all of us. Please don't stop.

I'm on my 16th season of coaching Little League Baseball and every year I say it's my last. And every year I go out and do it again.

Give us one more year, please.

Peace,
Jim Gould

It is incredibly hard not to stay logged in watching the count down clock continually.

I for one thought God had forsaken this nation. Now, we have a chance to return to greatness and that is a chance we shall not squander. The continual animosity with the liberals will end soon. They will attempt to continue their sabotage but soon, when the righteous has gotten a belly full, it would have been better had they never been born. Their squealing will be heard around the world as their philosophy is dismantled and shown for what it is. Stilt, do not forsake us as we followers will continue to need your inspiration and wisdom.

This just in: Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman made it in just under the wire to be pardoned by the soon to be ex-prez. NOT REALLY!!! But he does have a few hours left, as I write this, to throw a couple more F-U's at the American public he so disdains.

Stilt: I'm really gonna' miss ya, man. Not only the razor-sharp wit as expressed in the strips, but in the insightful commentary as well.

Just about as much as Stilt, I'm also gonna' miss the heck out of a lot of the people that post here, most especially "John the Economist". I always learned something new from you, and truly looked forward to reading your comments.

I'm sure you're all aware that Barry is planning on sticking around Washington for a few years. The media is already primed to have him opine on anything and everything Trump does and says, hopefully providing Stilt with ample material. But I understand if you don't feel obligated to keep me entertained.....

Sniff. Sniff. I shed a tear of joy watching that triumphant video! Good on ya, Stilt!

I also shed a tear knowing the impending end to this glorious forum. I'll miss you - but I'll miss you like I'd miss any other superhero who has left the field because the enemy has been vanquished. Here's hoping that the electorate gives no cause for you to don the cape, mask, and cheese again in the future (but alas! I think that may be a false hope).

I have for the last several days. Oh, the tune: Hail to the Chief!
Ain't it great!

Boligat said...

This will be a memorable day in more ways than one. BUT, as much as I will be glad to see O go away, and while I HOPE Trump will perform brilliantly, honorably, correctly, etc.... I still worry. Maybe O has permanently damaged my sense of "maybe next time will be better", but I will wait with cautious optimism. I read from too many people about all the things that Trump will, or will not do, and I fear there will be disappointments for them.

So, my advice is to be optimistic, but be realistic at the same time.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

John the Econ said...

Although I was never a Trump supporter, I do feel strangely optimistic if for no other reason that there actually might be some sort of change in Washington in contrast to the much more of the same we knew we were in for under Hillary.

For one thing, for the last two years I'd been assuming that I'd be retiring within two years of today's inauguration because of everything that Hillary was going to make "free" while raising my taxes to levels that would have made working for those things largely pointless.

But now it looks like I'll be remaining busy and productive for the foreseeable future. I feel much better about that than becoming just another ward of the state like millions have become under Obama, and certainly would have under Hillary.

But none of this means that as patriots our job is done. It never is. We've been watching the left behave as though they're unhinged over Trump. But the fact of the matter is that they'd be behaving this way regardless of who was elected. A side effect if our unprecedented affluence is that today we have literally millions of people who do not have to fight for their own survival, and have lots of free time to be discontented and cause trouble. And they will do so.

As for Obama's legacy, if we could only dispose of it so easily. It pretty much speaks for itself. As he's been doing for the last several months, he'll spend the next year or two working diligently to spin what should be unspinnable; doubling the national debt, empowering our enemies while dissing our allies, fermenting hate between the races which were getting along pretty well before he showed up, and the list goes on.

If Trump achieves just a quarter of what he's said he will, his administration will be regarded a raging success. So today, I'll remain optimistic for my country's sake.

Watching the inauguration now Laughing at the obvious vitriol the Obummer is putting out towards Barry. Noticing Michael, so far, has completely ignored Melania.... there is NOTHING. I do like the fact tht we KNOW what is under Melania's lovely dress... a real woman!

HAHA they are discussing how much the Obama's are leaving behind... immense popularity, etc etc... omg they are making Obama and his partner frigging SAINTS! How terribly popular Obummer is.... dear lord, will it ever stop with the St. Obamas?

WE ALL CELEBRATE THE CHANGE.

And Thank You Stilton and your host of lovable characters for helping us to survive the past 8 years.

Stilton,
That video was awesome!

I took the day off to watch the inauguration, and it didn't disappoint. I couldn't believe my ears when President Trump bashed the living shit out of Obama's failed policies with the anointed one sitting right behind him! Then I noticed O'Liar's facial expressions, and hats off to him for pretending he wasn't seething with anger.

The happiest moment of the past 8 years for me was watching that asswipe and his USA hating wife board the presidential plane for the very LAST TIME! No more sniveling, holier than thou looks from that turd. No more tooth whistle (although Trump's nose sniffing is already annoying me). No more race baiting.

Time will only tell if Trump can make good on any of his promises, but I actually have some real hope for the first time in decades.

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

@Readers- What a day! Mrs. Jarlsberg and I watched the inauguration while splitting a bottle of champagne, after which I grilled thick steaks just to annoy PETA.

Trump's inaugural address wasn't what I expected, because it was exactly what I expected but didn't think would really happen: blunt, unpolished, unapologetic, populist, blisteringly critical of the Washington establishment, and filled with unsubtle declarations of his intent which no doubt raised terror in already hysterical Lefties. In other words, we enjoyed it.

I'm waaaaay behind in catching up with your comments here, so please excuse me if I don't respond to everyone individually. I assure you that I'm reading everything, and am yet again humbled by the many nice things being said about Hope n' Change and the community we've created together.

All of that being said, let me move on to some individual responses...

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

@Jim G- Glad that you (and others) enjoyed the video. Learning to edit is one of those things I've been meaning to get around to, and may finally have time for.

I admire your continuing dedication to coaching Little League, but I'm not making any promises (or even hints) about "just one more year" right now. Neither am I absolutely closing the door; like everyone else, I have to give this brave new world a few months to get fresh bearings. What direction that will send me in will be a discovery for all of us.

@Fred Ciampi- I've listened to the 80's song "Goodbye To You" (by Patty Smyth and Scandal) about 6 times today. In fact, in my mind the song will now forever be associated with this glorious day.

@FlyBoy- The hardest part of wrapping up Hope n' Change is that I'll miss the community of the many friends I have here. Someone suggested I create a new site where I don't worry so much about content creation, but still have a comments section where we could all just chat the way we do here. That idea intrigues me, but again - I've got to spend some time "in the clear" before deciding on anything. But this is also why I really want everyone to add their contact info to my mailing list (near the top of the left column) so I can reach you if we decide to get the band back together.

@Emmentaler Limburger- I like the superhero analogy although it's a bit overblown; I'm more like the guy in the foxhole who kept others entertained with his harmonica and repertoire of dirty jokes while the shells whizzed overhead.

@Walter L Stafford- I realized when I heard "Hail to the Chief" today that it was the first time in 8 years that it hadn't sickened me.

@Boligat- I still worry a lot about Trump's Presidency; many of his promises seem too broad and too bluntly expressed to be possible. Can he really keep the (ahem) "best" parts of Obamacare, cover everyone, reduce premiums, and reduce overall medical spending? I don't see how - though it's a nice sounding goal. His trade policies are a concern, too. But hey, at least he actually wants to do good for America, which makes for a refreshing change.

Optimism and a healthy dose of realism is indeed a good outlook for the foreseeable future.

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

@Rod- You're right that NO other candidate on the horizon, if elected, would signal the kind of shake up we're about to experience. Even Bernie Sanders, with all his radical socialism, would have found his hands tied about actually instituting policy.

@John the Econ- Fine points. I, too, am looking at the future differently after this inauguration. Had Hillary won, I assure you I would be spending a lot more time in survivalist mode - not necessarily building a lean-to or making pemmican, but rather putting a lot of time into protecting my family's future financially, physically, and medically from a society which would treat us as "deplorables."

And you're certainly right that the job of patriots is never done. I'm not backing away from HnC because "we won!" and everything will now be peaches and cream. Rather, the central theme of this blog has been in fighting what the Left has been doing, and working towards getting Obama out of office. Little did I know that it was going to take all 8 years...

And sadly, Obama's legacy really can't be easily expunged - all the more so because he's going to continue to be in our faces, probably for decades. And because I believe him to be endlessly ambitious (and endlessly anti-American), I don't think he's out of the game by any means.

But as you say, today is a day for some guarded optimism. I don't think Trump can do everything he's promised, but if he can do even some of it there are better days ahead.

@Noor al Haqiqa- I'm glad you translated that last sentence for me. I was afraid to do a Google translation of "beeb diubg tiyr" in case it was some variation of "...and the horse you rode in on."

@American Cowboy- Yes, a lot of these talking heads should just go home. They have nothing useful to add to the national conversation.

@CenTexTim- Good call!

@Dan- I've always hoped that Sasha or Malia would eventually write a scathing "Mommy Dearest" style tell-all about the former First Family. In the meanwhile, maybe Reggie Love can find a publisher for "Body Man: Down Low in the White House."

@Graylady- In fairness to Michelle, she does not wear Target separates. She wears $10,000 ensembles that look like Target separates.

@Colby Muenster- When Trump started peeling the paint off Obama's dreadful reign, it made me think of Barry inviting the Supreme Court to the State of the Union and then demonizing them to their faces when they couldn't respond. The difference, of course, being that Obama had it coming today, and the Supreme Court didn't.

And I, too, enjoyed seeing Obama board that helicopter and fly off. At least, I enjoyed it for a couple of minutes before I realized the helicopter was just circling (like a vulture) and then landed nearby where...where...(I hate to say it)...Barry got out again. I was looking forward to watching him become a dot on the horizon and then disappearing - but I suppose we can't have everything.
