Sinking Feeling

Not long ago, VP Joe Biden toured the country proclaiming this to be the "Recovery Summer" in which we'd finally...finally...get results from Obama's budget-busting economic policies.

And boy, have we.

New unemployment figures show that the economy lost jobs again last month, as it did the prior two months of this "recovery summer," raising the official unemployment rate to 9.6%. Experts believe the real rate, which includes the many jobless Americans who have given up hope, to be as much as twice that number.

The president immediately blamed the dismal job situation on the lack of a bipartisan recovery plan, which sounds suspiciously like he's blaming the Republicans for not physically restraining the super-majority Democrats when they decided to turn a trillion "stimulus" dollars into party hats and confetti for their political supporters.

But thankfully, America's long, hot, miserable "recovery summer" is now over, and we can look forward to a great autumn.

Or, as Democrats will refer to it after November, "The Great Fall."

While George W. wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, the Progressive Socialists application of the Cloward & Piven principals have almost destroyed this great Republic. The creation of an entire "entitlement class", government growth beyond it's capacity to pay for it, creation of the "nanny state" and an idiot of a President have done servere damage to this Republic. November cannot come soon enough.

Just this once, I suggest that we eliminate October and move straight to November. I realize that would entail giving up Halloween, but in these hard times, everybody has to sacrifice, even the kids. We need to get to the mid-term elections ASAP.

I'm sure once the elections are over, everybody would be more than willing to give candy out at their front door...the kids won't miss a thing.

Yeh, I am more confident than ever after surveying the vast wasteland of Obama policy. The folks are motivated to vote and the left has to KNOW how its gonna go. Yet,they continue with the fabrications that all is getting better in spite of the facts. I could have a bit of respect for anyone who would admit to taking the wrong way in spite of the public's opposition. Just shows how out of touch they are with reality still! Maybe they are just HOPING it will CHANGE!

Keep the faith! Right WILL prevail!!

The left is whistling past the graveyard and telling themselves it's not that scary, but they see the spectres behind the tombstones, just waiting for them to get close. They are wetting themselves from fear.

I wish the left would stop whistling past the damned graveyard and use it as their new home. Unfortunately, for that to ever happen, the Republicans would actually have to grow a set and stick to their supposed conservative roots. Fat chance: that - as proven again and again.

Again: MAKE SURE YOU ABSOLUTELY KNOW WHO YOU'RE VOTING FOR. Unfortunately, there are a lot out there who will make you think they are conservative when they are actually as liberal as communists. But, again, everyone leaves a back trail and few can afford to bury it as 0bama has. Look into the candidates before you vote for anyone. Make sure they aren't "sudden conservatives". And definitely don't rely solely on "tea party" labels or affiliations. THAT concept has already been co-opted by the moderates and infiltrated by the liberals...

DO YOUR RESEARCH! An informed voter is a dangerous (to the socialists) voter - that is why they co-opted the mainstream media - to take easy information away from you, and feed you propaganda instead. Use the internet. Use sources you trust. If nothing else, you can probably count negative data in the MSM as a count in favor of the candidate, but even that is iffy with the wheels coming off their bus as they are. And teach your friends how to research the candidates, too. We cannot afford the "pick the first one" or "pick a name that sounds nice" folks. Educate everyone you can!

Here's hoping this country elects so many new conservatives on November 2 that we can celebrate an early Thanksgiving the next day.

Emmentaler- EXCELLENT advice, and we couldn't agree more strongly. Obama was all labels and unsubstantiated claims. We don't want to elect the Republican equivalents. Frankly, when I get a campaign mailer that says "Tea Party Approved," I raise a suspicious eyebrow...as I don't know that there's any organized "Tea Party" body that is capable of giving meaningful endorsements. Mind you, the person making the claim may still be a terrific candidate - but as you say, we ALL need to do our homework.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I have never voted FOR anyone! All of my votes have been a matter of "the lesser of two evils". Am I alone in this?

Chuck:
You aren't alone, and I have found myself voting for the lesser of two evils (McCain, anyone?) but if I believed that was all I could look forward to I'd give up and never vote again. I have to have faith that there are genuinely good people out there and a few of them do wish to serve in the real sense of the word. Personally, I have great faith in Sarah Palin and will, if she runs, work my considerable ass off for her and do so with a joyful heart. Could she disappoint me? Sure, she's human after all. But that's why we have the capacity for faith. It isn't just for our relationship with God. It is vital to all relationships, even those with our political candidates. They call it a "leap of faith". It's worth the jump no matter where you land.

To all:
Sorry for coming across a bit maudlin. I've got ABBA's One of Us on a continuous loop on my CD player and that song tends to wring the emotion out of me. Yeah, silly.

Chuck, Im sure a lot of voters, including myself, feel ther are voting for the lesser of two evils, (yeh, McCain), but Hoosier dads right, ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

One other thought...since we have experienced a 'black' president now, won't the same thing happen if a female gets the oval office? I am not against a 'preidentess', but when you criticize anyone other than a white male, you are labeled either a racist or a sexist. Just a thought. I like Palin too, think she's great!

I remember too, last election, there absolutely was NO ONE who excited me on either side! But. McCain and Palin were my pick too! Great cartoon again btw.

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

Readers- It's an unhappy day when we have to choose between the lesser of two evils...but it's still better to choose the lesser of two evils. It drives me crazy when people don't get exactly the candidate they want, and so either vote for the opposition to "teach my party a lesson," or just sit back and let the other side win.

I think most Conservatives were "one-handed voters" when McCain ran, because the other hand was needed to hold our noses. But does anyone doubt that he would have been superior to Obama?

Next time around, the GOP and the citizenry needs to make sure we don't get a repeat of the previous fiasco...in which none of the Conservative candidates could get a plurality (because there were a lot of them), while McCain grabbed the so-called moderate vote. I think every primary had a Conservative majority, but it got split between the candidates and they knocked each other out.

"Never again" seems like a good goal.

Suzy said...

I'm still upset that we in PA didn't even get to vote in the Primaries. I mean, we had a Primary...but by then, McCain was already declared winner. We had absolutely no say in who ran for President. How fair is that?

It'll happen again, so you all who don't live in PA vote good for us, okay?

I teach government and Economics. I love learning and teaching but all this talk about educating voters is garbage. People vote on emotions and we need a better emotional appeal. All the people who understand Economics wouldn't fill a small stadium. I hear as much garbage think from the right as from the left. Check out the actual facts on that "bridge to nowhere" for a great example. Or all the Bush bashing from the "conservatives". Until "you people" figure out it's a two PARTY sytem and start electing Republicans the Dems are going to keep running this place.

Bobo said...

Suzy: I agree with you. Out here in Desert-zona and other states that hold their primaries way later than the east coast folks don't really get a say in who the presidential candidates will be. We need to hold all primaries for Presidential election on the same day and may the best conservative Republican win. "I vote Republican and I vote often" is what I tell people. :-))

Stilton's right. I like the notion of "one-handed voter" (i.e. holding your nose with the other hand.) But ALWAYS vote and NEVER FORGET that the make up of the Supreme Court is one of the most critical reasons TO vote. These unelected decision-makers can affect our personal lives and the good of this country in more troubling and long-lasting ways than the presidents who nominated them.
