High Five

Click Cartoon for Larger Size
Here at the editorial offices of Hope n' Change Cartoons, we start each day by looking at current news stories, heaving a deep sigh, and plucking the worst offenders out of the stack to turn into cartoons.

But some days, there's only one story...even though it hides behind many faces and details. No matter whether we're talking foreign policy, the economy, terror, ethnic hatred, lawlessness, socialism, or ecology. And that one story is that everything points not only to America in retreat, but that this appears to be the actual goal of every policy decision which has been made by the president since entering office.

Our enemies are ascendant, our allies are alienated. Our debts have quadrupled while capitalism - this country's only source of revenue - suffers unprecedented governmental attacks. Government metastasizes while unemployment soars. Our borders have fallen, and the intelligence agencies which dare not say "islamic radicalism" aloud warn instead of the dangers posed by ordinary citizens who ask that our Constitution be honored.

A seeming lifetime ago, Democrats insisted that we "connect the dots" to get a clear picture of our nation's enemies and to try and forestall disaster. And we agree with them.

There's no better way to get a clear picture of Barack Hussein Obama.

Well, Dear Leader is here in San Francisco to I guess, preach to the converted. However, I am confused if the oil spill is something he can help with or not, or if the Federal government is "doing all it can" to help BP. Does O'Bummer deserve blame? Thoughts?

Congratulations to the Democrats and President BO. You've messed up American faster than anyone in history.

Anonymous1- Obama is not to blame for the oil spill, but he can certainly be blamed for a lot of the political rhetoric that is making things worse - whether referring to keeping a "boot on the neck" of BP, or threatening to push BP out of the way (and who else would stop the leak then?). Additionally, Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal wants to build "barrier islands" to protect his coastlines, but can't get the federal permits necessary. At the very least, the president should expedite that paperwork.

And maybe, this president - who gave a special "safety award" to the very oil rig that blew out - might consider donating the $3.5 million in campaign funds he got from BP to the cleanup effort.

There is plenty of responsibility on the hands of the American voters as well... for too long we allowed ourselves to remain largely uninvolved. Our position on politics and public policy was that it was 'a necessary evil' and 'as long as it doesn't impact me' things were ok..

We fell asleep at the wheel and allowed this to happen to ourselves... do I hold BHO, his administration and our current Congress responsible for their policy decisions? Absolutely. However, I also consider myself responsible for allowing myself to become too complacent in my personal responsibility to work to keep the powers of government in check and working FOR me .. not the other way around

The good news, Dark, is that LOTS of people are PISSED this year, may well get a LOT of 'fresh blood' in the house and senate..

Fingers crossed so hard I can hardly see.. .

I'm just so mystified that the mainstream media keeps missing the little details, like the $3.5 million on campaign funds and the safety award given for this particular rig by little "o" sometime before the blowout, I must assume? Odd that they have so close scrutiny on Sarah Palin and the other threats to Democracy as they wish it to be, and so little power of observation when "o" and his cronies are concerned. I remember them calling Reagan the Teflon President, whining that none of his many "misdeeds" ever stuck to him. Guess we need to start calling little "o" the "slicker than BP oil" President, since NOTHING he does, no matter how outrageous in its level of insult to America, its citizens or his oath of office, seems to touch the man at all. Why not mention that the BP rig is out there in mile deep water in the first place, unlike rigs from other countries all around the area in the shallows, because the Federal agencies who control US oil leases and offshore drilling by USA based Companies specified the location? Google Earth the area and look at the other drill rigs all over the place, none in deep water and none of them USA rigs. Seems to me we had our boot on BP's neck from the beginning.

Dark & Pete- It seems a lot of voter apathy in the past boiled down to "what's the worst that could happen?"

Now we know. And hopefully that will keep it from happening again.

Front Woodsman- excellent points. All of the technologies being used to try to stop the leak are "untried," because the government forced the company to drill at unprecedented depths.

Pete(Detroit) spoke of "fresh blood" in the House and the Senate. I think that what is needed is actually fresh blood on the floors of the House and the Senate. Until there is some "extremely personal" accountability for the misdeeds of Congress and the Executive, I think it will all continue just as it has. I think I few folks are going to have to die, and many are going to have to go to prison for a very long time, before there are any epiphanies in government.

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

Dr.D- and when you say a few folks are "going to have to die," we presume you mean of old age, syphilis, or jaywalking in busy Washington DC traffic. Not much is off-limits in this comment section, but please refrain from any seeming suggestions of violence. This is just a gentle reminder, because we appreciate your posts.

Dark Knight,

You are right on the money. We had plenty of jobs and money flowing. We chose to look the other way when it came to our leaders. Now we are paying the price of not doing the things we should have been doing, like holding Washington sccountable.

Speaking of "the oil spill is out of control", never thought I would see the day when James Carville would rip on a Democrat like this:

"The president of the United States could've come down here, he could've been involved with the families of these 11 people" who died on the offshore rig, Carville said. "He could've demanded a plan in anticipation of this."

"It just looks like he's not involved in this," an angry Carville said on "GMA." "Man, you got to get down here and take control of this, put somebody in charge of this thing and get this moving. We're about to die down here."

And in other breaking news, Obama has hit a new low in the Rassmussen Presidential Approval Index: -22 Strongly Approve/Strongly Disapprove

If Bush would have handled the BP oil spill like Obama is handling it, he'd have practically been impeached for it.

Cussing at BP doesn't solve anything.

The Dark Knight said...

Suzy ... that may be true but cussing at the American public sure will!

Obama will do nothing during this four year tour that'll be good for the country and after the fool is gone we'll still be paying this idot $300K a year plus secret service protection for life so he can continue to give $17K a plate speeches on how great is socialist comrads are as he has just done in California. It events that that when they're all together in the same room when one wished there would have been an eartquake of about 19 on the scale, as we watch the buildings fall in on their heads and there be NO survivors. Maybe then, the country would once again rise. Ask me if I'd miss any of them, go ahead.

Well, someone might as well say it,this obamanation has to be removed,(impeached?),immediately or the nation collapses, cut and dry!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous- As we said before, we can neither advocate nor condone violence. That being said, the aftermath of a well-timed earthquake or meteor strike could still be appreciated for the great good accomplished.

Not to go too far off subject, but how much more damage will be done to the country as a whole and to our military morale in particular as the news circulates that this worthless nitwit has decided to go on vacation to Chicago this weekend intead of taking a few hours to honor our dead with the traditional, Presidential placing of the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington, which is about a 10 minute trip from the White House, even without the motorcade and police escort provided. Sending Biden instead. Too Busy.... not too busy to fly to Cali for a Barbara Boxer fundraiser and to attend a Kennedy Center fete for Paul McCartney back in DC during the "vacation", just too busy to take time to honor our sacred dead.

Guess to him the holiday really is about barbecue and sales on cars and clothes. As a 70's era veteran myself (yep, really THAT old)I am almost not able to put in words the level of contempt I now have for the current "Commander in Chief" for preferring fundraising and a party for an aging rock star over doing the one service on the one day that matters most to all who have worn the uniform of the US Military, living and dead.

I'm sure the military pilots running Marine One and Air Force One all over the country on the "more important errands" booked for this weekend are looking forward to dealing with this arrogant, uncaring, anti-American chunk of dreck.

Hope the cook whose holiday he's going to ruin is also a vet, and will at least have the good sense and requisite sand to spit in the fella's food on behalf of all who have served.

Not to mention the insult to the National Guard troops beng deployed on this coming weekend to the Arizona border to help the border patrol. Never mattered before, but suddenly the Guard is needed on THIS weekend?

Oh, and about the oil spill? Think James Carville had a point calling him to task for never contacting the families of the drillers that died on that rig? Too busy. Busy fingerpointing in all directions. Busy attacking everyone else involved, while putting NOTHING in motion that might help the situation. Busy talking about assembling teams of "experts" with no oil field experience to think about solutions for another month, when the ex-president of Shell Oil is telling the world this blowout is similar to one that happened in Saudi Arabia years ago. That one was never a problem, and never even got reported because they immediately brought in a few supertankers and pumped the oil/water mix off the surface for separation on shore while the well was being worked on. No environmental issues, they filtered the water and pumped it back into the sea, and saved all the oil besides.

This president is a pathetic little weasel looking always for self aggrandisement, blame shifting, and any escape to avoid doing what should be done.

Skipping Arlington on Memorial Day. Nobody, no REAL President, No REAL Commander in Chief, could possibly treat his troops this way, or suck this much. Lowlife @#$%^&*(_+)***^%^$%$#

Words just fail me. My Keyboard melts from the angry acid leaking from my fingertips. I'd like to go to the Chicago Memorial Day Eff the Troops Barbecue and moon the sob.

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

Front Woodsman- the only thing we can't agree with in your post is when you said "words just fail me." Your words are powerful, accurate, and to the point...and this president is a self aggrandising, blame shifting, unAmerican, pathetic little weasel.

alan markus said...

Front Woodsman - I think you said it all. Because I took my chances on the draft lottery, I myself am not a 70's era veteran, so I think I am as old as you are. Just a little "shout-out" to send your way for service to our country at a time when absolutely nothing was done to boost the morale of our service people. Unfortunately, I don't see this President as ever being capable of doing anything to help the morale of our troops.
