You remember this murderous bastard, right?

By now, nearly everyone knows two things about Clint Eastwood's multi-Oscar nominated film "American Sniper" - that conservatives have made the movie a huge box office sensation, and that liberals loathe the movie simply for existing.

The film, which tells the powerful true story of sniper Chris Kyle, offends liberal sensibilities because Kyle killed bad people for good reasons - which is pretty much the opposite of what goes on in the Planned Unparenthood abattoirs which liberals hold so dear.

Hope n' Change would say a lot more about this, and the idiotic remarks of Hollywood morons like Michael "Are You Going To Eat That?" Moore (who tweeted that snipers are cowards who will shoot you in the back) and Seth "No, Dammit, I'm Not Jonah Hill" Rogen (who tweeted that the film seemed like pro-military Nazi propaganda), but in complete candor we're experiencing wracking back pain at the moment (a handy hint: never watch the State of the Union Address on a television too heavy to throw) and so intend to wrap up this commentary as quickly as possible so we can get back to our heating pad, soothing new age music, and painkillers. On the rocks.

In summary, Hope n' Change definitely plans to go see "American Sniper." If so many anti-military liberals have this film in their crosshairs (see what we did there?) it's clearly worth supporting at the box office.

Yes, Obamacare covers the treatment of back pain.

BONUS: An Old Michael Moore Joke!

One oversight in that movie poster: the vast majority of the women abused and children murdered by this sick bastard were black.

I heard about Michael "I am the Walrus" Moore bitching about his assertion that Chris Kyle was a murderer and not a hero. Well, that is perfectly understandable when you consider who was saying it... Michael Moore only knows the word "hero" when it is associated with the word "sandwich".

I went to see American Sniper this afternoon. Go soon! It will take your mind off anything that ails you. It is IMHO, one of the greatest films of all time. I would say Top Ten, but I'm still struggling to find nine other films to put up there with it.

And no, Clint Eastwood did not pay me to say that, but Clint, if you're listening...

Actually Stilton, the average American does not remember Gosnell and his "House of Horrors" because the same liberal media that now is denouncing "American Sniper" failed to give that monster's trial more than a passing glance.
As for the movie, I will probably later feel guilty for downloading the free torrent as I type this and actually buy the DVD when it is released. I do not do theaters, but have read comments by some who did go see the film that say it is the first movie they have been to where the audience either sat in silence for a minute after it was over or applauded it wholeheartedly.

Doc sorry about your back pain but as you know 'truth hurts' so it's not like you weren't warned.

Mikey moore has far more to worry about someone with a harpoon than a sniper rifle.
Ahhh yes st gosnell, "I'll snip their little necks", of the grand church of the left, never got the national coverage he so richly deserved.
So we know learn that the left approves baby snippers but not American snipers. No surprise.

In other news: Øbimbo has a new King of Saudi Arabia to bow down to now that Abdullah is dead. He, Biden, Hagel, McCain, Kerry, the Bushes, and many others are singing the praises of that dearly departed ruler who's country brought us Bin Laden and the 9/11 hijackers, an average of one beheading every 4 days, 1000 lashes to a blogger who had the audacity to exercise free speech, massive amounts of financial support for Al Qeada and ISIS, women being treated worse than the average dog, and the greatest level of poverty and lack of human rights in the entire Middle East. All of which is ignored by the MSM because we wouldn't want to upset the steady flow of oil to the US.

It's just like everything else with the modern Liberal: complete bizarro world: up is down, right is wrong, black is white. Ooops. Was that last one racist?

Moore is such a waste of skin, although, I suppose his hide could be fine couch upholstery someday. ... if you could overlook a few pizza sauce stains and the yellow stripe all down the back part.

Sorry about your back pain, Doc; hope you get healed up real soon and don't have to subject yourself to our new, improved health care system.

And WTF is that middle photo!!!?? I studied it for 5 minutes trying to figure it out. What the heck? Is it showing a back surgery at a VA hospital? EXTREMELY disturbing... but not as disturbing as that monster, Gosnell.

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

@Freddie Sykes- I actually wanted to make that point, but just didn't have the focus to do it with my back hurting (and my back is no big deal, just something that will need a couple of days to recover).

As your hashtag suggests, the Left only seems to feel that criminal black lives matter.

@Bruce Bleu- The idea that it takes a "coward" to kill from a distance (and frequently behind enemy lines) is wildly offensive. Moreover, Moore has proved repeated in his alleged documentaries that he's perfectly willing to stick a knife in someone's back - but only in the safety of an editing suite.

@Proof- When Clint Eastwood is on his game, he really knows how to make a powerful movie. And he has a long history of bringing moral complexity to his work.

I think the Lefties believe the film is simply a flag-waving slasher movie in which the bodies stack up for our amusement. But why wouldn't they think that in an era when they routinely watch the torture-porn movies turned out by Hollywood?

@Geoff King- Mrs. J and I will probably go see "American Sniper" in a movie theater just to show our support. This is a rare move - I love movies, but have grown to hate audiences in this age of cellphones and incivility.

The last movie I saw in a theater was Dinesh D'Souza's "2016" in 2012. I hadn't been in a theater for several years before that.

@REM1875- Considering that stress can aggravate back pain, it's entirely likely that this is a case of "the truth hurts."

And yes, I doubt that the Lefties even remember (or ever knew) about Gosnell. To borrow a phrase from Al Gore, Gosnell represents an inconvenient truth which the Left would rather not think about.

@TrickyRicky- Good idea. Congressman Hank Johnson is already warning that the Earth might tip over because of Moore's weight.

@Geoff King- When it comes to making deals with the devil, I can't think of many more practical examples than the history of oil deals with the Middle East.

@chiefjaybob- What isn't racist these days?

@Colby Muenster- That middle photo isn't quite as horrifying as it looks. Those are two technicians repairing an old animatronic robot.

I, for one, have always been astonished that while "Abortion and Homosexuality" were always linked for decades in some bizarre logic I could never grasp ... it was legal for heterosexuals to kill babies and illegal for gay folks to smooch ... from 1973 to 2003. If the conservatives so dead set against recognizing gay couples put 1/10th the energy they put into trashing gay folks into stopping abortion they might well have got somewhere.

Even today ... the House couldn't even get a bill out questioning abortion before the 5th month ... but were perfectly able to take the tax dollars of gay folks and use it to pay for lawyers against us. All the potential Republican candidates are vocal against gay couples, but seemingly silent against abortion. In some upcoming cases on gay marriage, more amicus briefs will be filed on the issue of sissy smooching than on any other issue before the courts. Makes me feel so darn special!

And what's the complaint about gay folks? We don't make babies to kill ... and we're trashed if we seek to adopt any who made it past the killing mills. Utterly amazing.

Talk about having your priorities not straight, eh?

As for the movie -- I won't see it ... but surely if it's "lies" as Moore and others claim, then it's fiction ... and fiction has been with us always.

I suppose I should comment on the main topic but your use of a "quote" from one of my all-time favorite Clint Eastwood movies, Gran Torino, made my morning.

That and the fact that you so adroitly highlight the abject hypocrisy of the left today. When one is in battle, the point is to defeat the enemy, not play footsie. Snipers have been around since the bow and arrow days. These fat-bastards lefties who live off the fruits of those who defend us should feel the pointy end of a sniper some day. And probably will since they are going to get us all killed with their stupidity.

Anyway, Gran Torino is a great film.

@Stilton,

As someone with ongoing back pain (ruptured disc, surgery, blah, blah...) I would offer this information:

(Note, this is simply my experience combined w/talking to my chiropractor. I have NO medical expertise)

Heat soothes because it increases the flow of blood to the area where it is applied. However, most back pain is caused by swelling/inflamation (which the heat tends to exacerbate). Good news is that the heat eases the pain, while your change in behavior alleviates whatever was aggravating your back. Bad news is that the swelling takes longer to decrease.

I used to alternate between heat and ice packs. However, since I like cold weather anyway (why do I still live in Texas again?) I've pretty much moved to a straight ice pack regimen when my back bothers me more than "usual." I find that that gets me back to my baseline functionality much quicker. YMMV.

Good stretching exercises can help too. Let me know if you're interested, and I can email you a copy of the ones I use.

Yep...abortionist extraordinaire Gosnell...darling of the left...patriotic sniper Chris Kyle, just a mean nasty bad guy! What a 180 difference!

On different matter, some here may know this, but I want all here to be aware...as reported in AmericanThinker...

The woman whose story of economic recovery was showcased by President Barack Obama in his State of the Union address is a former Democratic campaign staffer and has been used by Obama for political events in the past.

Rebekah Erler has been presented by the White House as a woman who was discovered by the president after she wrote to him last March about her economic hardships. She was showcased in the speech as proof that middle class Americans are coming forward to say that Obama’s policies are working.

Unmentioned in the White House bio of Erler is that she is a former Democratic campaign operative, working as a field organizer for Sen. Patty Murray (D., Wash.).

This also wasn’t the first time the White House used the former Democratic campaign staffer as a political prop. Obama spent a “day in the life” of Erler in June so that he could have “an opportunity to communicate directly with the people he’s working for every day.”

Quite obviously, Obama is running out of real people and is reduced to using the equivalent of those Styrofoam columns back in Denver in 2008. Either that, or his staff is just phoning it in, secure in the knowledge that the MSM will not expose their fabrications.

It's always interesting watching our pop-culture America-haters come unhinged and witlessly spew their intellectual diarrhea. Not only does it reveal their one-dimensional thought processes, but it also exposes their rank cowardice and hypocrisy.

Victor Davis Hansen made an excellent observation on this last week, when he observed:

"I don’t remember Michael Moore or any other Hollywood grandees objecting much to the 2001 war film Enemy at the Gates, which was supposedly loosely based on the controversial (and perhaps less than verifiable) career of the deadly sniper Vasily Zaitsev. That movie portrayed the expert Zaitsev as a hero in trying to cut down Wehrmacht officers and soldiers on behalf of the Soviet cause... Nor did Moore et al. object to the positive portrayal of the sniper Private Daniel Jackson (Barry Pepper) in Saving Private Ryan...
In
Captain Phillips Navy SEAL snipers are portrayed as “marksmen” who nonetheless stealthily blow apart Somali pirates, and thereby save Phillips’s life. Hollywood and film critics were also quite enthusiastic about that movie...

What has more likely caused some controversy over American Sniper is not the sniper profession per se of Chris Kyle (since snipers were not de facto deemed suspect in prior films), but three other considerations:

a) American Sniper often portrays the Islamist insurgents as savage, and Kyle as complex, but nevertheless both patriotic and heroic in protecting other Americans from them;

b) the movie does not serve as a blanket damnation of the Iraq war, at least as is otherwise typical for the Hollywood Iraq film genre; in this regard, unlike many recent Hollywood film titles with the proper noun American in them (e.g., American Hustle, American Gangster, American Psycho, American History X, American Beauty, etc.), the film quite unusually does not dwell on American pathologies; and

c) perhaps most important, the film is very successful, and has resonated with the public at the precise time when other recent movies more welcomed by the establishment, such as Selma, have so far not."

The undeniable common denominator is a kind of inverted "American Exceptionalism", where America is the worst thing on the global stage, and anything that is contrary to that notion is just as evil. These people simply cannot tolerate anything that is both pro-American and inspiring.

Does it occur to any of these media morons that their hero Barack Obama has personally killed more people than all American snipers put together with the near-daily launching of Predator Drones from the safety and comfort of the Oval Office? Morally, what is the difference? The real difference is that Chris Kyle targets were actually in his sight, and it was his ass on the line every moment he was in the field. Obama on the other hand is literally, "fire and forget". Perhaps it's his Nobel Peace Prize that makes the moral difference.

Of course, the real cowards are the Moores, Rogens, and the boobs at Rolling Stone, who cower in their safe bubble of Progressivism protected by the Kyles of the world. Hey guys, want to show real "courage"? Start making real movies that don't suck up to your buddies in the echo chamber and dare to show Islamic fanatics as anything other than victims of "American exceptionalism".

John the Econ said...

As for Gosnell: There's a story that couldn't go away fast enough for the left. In a nutshell, its reality exposed pretty much every fallacy and hypocrisy of the left.

I've long argued that if the GOP was only half as evil, sexist, and racist as the left likes to portray it, then the GOP wouldn't just be in favor of abortion, but would practically mandate it. After all, the vast majority of abortions are conducted on minorities and people who tend to favor the Progressive agenda. (This is one reason the left feels they need unlimited immigration, because they're killing off their own future domestic voters) By fully subsidizing abortion, we could finish the Democratic Party within a generation. If the GOP really wants to put an end to the left's abortion agenda, then they should do a head-fake and come out in favor of it by pointing this out.

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

@Jim Hlavac- Good points across the board. I wish people would STFU with their anti-gay crusades and move on to issues more serious than the "wrong" people being happy.

Regarding abortion, it was very disappointing that the bill which would eliminate most abortions after 5 months didn't go through.

And on "American Sniper," I'm sure there are fictionalized aspects to the picture, which is fine by me. The first duty of a filmmaker is to make a good film. By all accounts, that's what Eastwood has done. I don't remember Michael Moore sending out tweets to question the fictionalized racism of LBJ in "Selma."

@Froaderick Barbarossa- War is an extremely messy and Hellish thing. It's also a stupid thing to be involved with if you're not doing whatever it takes to win.

I recently heard Colonel Ralph Peters on FOX saying that the only way to successfully deal with ISIS will involve smoldering ruins and crying widows. I'm sure the Lefties find such a pronouncement offensive and simplistic, but Peters has it exactly right.

@txGreg- I've been using heat, but based on your suggestion I'll try some ice (applied externally for a change). And yes, I'd like to know what stretching exercises you recommend - thanks!

@PRY- Barry and his fraudulent human props disgust me. I remember a Rose Garden event years ago in which he was pushing Obamacare to a group of doctors who responded enthusiastically to his remarks. Only they weren't, for the most part, doctors. Whoever the hell the White House rounded up for the event was simply given a doctor's white coat to wear while the cameras were rolling.

There simply isn't a dividing line between politics and theater anymore. Which rather brings us full circle back to today's topic.

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

@John the Econ- Excellent remarks. I've got nothing to add, in part because you've expressed things so well already, and in part because a 10-year old Hydrocodone tablet that I found in the medicine cabinet just kicked in.

Since Michael Moore seems to be so uptight about anything remotely patriotic, I think Stilt should do another strip about him, featuring the walrus with the baseball cap. Maybe call it Whitey Tighty? 'Course, Moore is far from being alone in that category.

Once again, your posts say so much in so little space. Keep 'em comin!

Neglected this final paragraph:

Imagine the position this would put the Democrats in: They'd reflexively go ballistic and condemn the GOP for obvious classism, sexism & racism, and then would be faced with the reality that this has already been their agenda for over 40 years!

Of course, the big difference as they'd rationalize it would be that they didn't intend for that to be the reality, so it's all okay. Then, their heads would explode.

Oh, and here's a little something regarding our discussion earlier this week about the President's 529 savings plan proposal:

The First Family’s 529 Windfall
The large contributions the Obamas have already made won’t be taxed.

"...the President’s plan would only apply the new taxes to withdrawn earnings on money contributed to these accounts in the future. All past contributions to 529 plans would continue to grow and then be withdrawn tax-free to pay for school... in 2007 “the Obamas took advantage of a unique feature of 529 plans that allows account owners to front-load five years’ worth of contributions, $240,000 in total for the two girls.”"

Well isn't that special? Once again, the elitist Progressive in Chief gets to avoid the consequences of policy he'd like to force upon all other Americans. Not a rich Progressive who saw this coming? Too bad for you!

This reminds me of Obama's repeated suggestion that the tax code should do away with deductions for charitable contributions. This is hardly a surprise as well, considering how little Obama & Biden gave to charity before they were in the national spotlight. Eliminating the deduction for charitable contributions would make little difference in their lives, and would mostly fall upon conservatives anyway.

Once again, that this bunch is hypocritical and self-service is no surprise. What continues to get me is the number of people who still honestly believe that this set of Marxist exploiters have their backs.

@txGreg & @ Stilton: I used to be frequently bothered by pinched sciatic nerve. painful as hell and led to much time spent laying on heating pad. I found that an inexpensive TENS unit solved the problem. instructions indicate that it is not to be worn continuously, however, I found that I could wear it and receive a back massage whenever needed during the day.

as for "fat boy" Moore and his opinion .... I've done the same kind of "work" as Chris Kyle. people who have already posted are correct. it is dangerous work. also, it does strange things to a person's mind. I was never able to separate 'me'(the REAL person) from 'him'(the guy who pulled the trigger) consequently, my "magic number" was 16. at that number, I went a bit crazy and was considered "unstable" by my commander

@Shelly- Thanks for the nice thoughts. I haven't seen the Glozell interview yet, but will soon. I've actually liked Glozell for some time - her videos are funny and I think she's pretty smart (though she like to play the buffoon frequently). That being said, in serious times like these, the president has no business doing stunt interviews with Internet comedians.

@Colby- It's likely we haven't seen the last of Michael the Walrus here, though he won't be getting his own strip. If we're going to spend that much time with a liberal, it's better if she looks like Lefty Lucy.

@John the Econ- I'd love to see this implemented for the reasons you describe.

@REM1875- I'll add that to my growing list of remedies!

@John the Econ- I'd missed that little tidbit about the Obamas' maneuver to shelter their own 529 funds from taxes. Effing hypocrites.

@Wahoo- I know there's a "fake baby" brouhaha but I don't know the specifics because I haven't seen the film yet, and have been avoiding anything that might be even remotely spoiler-ish. I have seen babies in Texas though; they're adorable and use jalapenos as pacifiers.

@Anonymous- Not everyone in Hollywood is an idiot. Only about 99%.

@George in Houtx- I've got a small TENS unit around here somewhere. Believe I'll dig it out and try it today.

Regarding the military "work" you've done in the past, I'd say your opinion on all of this is the absolutely definitive one. I can't imagine what it would be like to face what you had to face, which is why I plan to see Eastwood's movie. I think everyone - regardless of political affiliation - should try to understand the realities of what we ask our military to do, and the sacrifices they make in the field and at home.

If I haven't said it lately, thank you for your military service. The fact that a lot of veterans read Hope n' Change means more to me than I can say.
