Signs of the Times

As we enter 2011, it's a bit distressing that the news reads like a checklist for the Apocalypse. Thousands of birds have fallen out of the skies over Arkansas... a 20-mile stretch of river is covered with dead fish...poisonous serpents are filling the streets and homes of people in Australia owing to unprecedented flooding... and in New York, thousands of people have turned to salt.

Okay, actually they've turned to using salt to clear snow from sidewalks and streets, because the city's overpaid union members don't feel like cleaning it up. Still, it's scary.

Here at Hope n' Change, we believe that these are all dark portents that a plague of politicians is returning to Washington to get up to new mischief. And Barack Obama, the prophesied AntiCapitalist, will preside over it all...assuming he can be dragged kicking and screaming from the golf courses and shave-ice stands of Hawaii.

But as bad as all of this sounds, there's reason for hope. After all, a new batch of Republicans is coming to Washington, saying "Let my taxpayers go"... and plans are already underway to start rigorous investigations of the Obama Administration's blatant misuse of taxpayer funds.

We like to think of it as a potential "parting of the Red Ink."

The Republican's promise to stop the hemorrhaging of tax dollars is in the same league as "Of course I'll respect you in the morning", "The check's in the mail" and that other one that's kinda crude and not fit for a family site. Color me skeptical, but I come by it honestly. I'll believe it when I see it.
As for the end times...I'm skeptical of that as well. Every generation for the past two thousand years has had those who swear that they were living in the end times. They were all wrong. I think the odds are with the skeptics.

If the Republicans actually DO the things they say they are gonna do (i.e. stop the tax dollar hemorrhage, read the Constitution, repeal the health bill, among other things) then we have a lot of reason for real hope and change!

But....I'll believe it when I see it.

It makes me ill to think about the millions, billions, trillions of dollars wasted by our government year after year without anyone putting an end to the spending.

Our elected officials need to focus on America; stop foreign aid, bring our troops home, rebuild our infrastructure instead of freely giving money to third world countries that will never-ever become even second world countries. If we did that, maybe...just maybe, if we quit making them co-dependent upon us, they would get their poop together.

And let's get our own poop together, too. FEMA refusing to collect 600+ million dollars of wastefully misspent, fraudulently obtained, and/or otherwise unaccounted for dollars in Louisiana in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina.

And why doesn't the IRS seek criminal prosecution of the tax evaders working in our nation's capital? By some reports, a billion dollars in unpaid taxes is outstanding from federal employees working in the White House, the Congress and other federal agencies. My guess is it will never happen because they are all in bed together to screw the American taxpayer.

Readers- What a skeptical bunch you are! Just like me!

Going along with the common thread above, I'll only believe real change when I see it...not when it's promised, debated, hinted at, or "spun." It's time for deeds, not words.

Finally, some sense from you people. It's good to see that you're not the right wing yahoo's you make yourselves out to be.

Hey, Stupid Liberal:
I don't know what a "yahoo" is but I am absolutely and proudly the right winger I make myself out to be. I don't have to hide my politics behind euphemisms like "progressive" or "liberal" instead of the more honest "socialist" or "marxist".

StupidLiberal- Glad you're finally awakening to the need for fiscal responsibility! It's good to see that even progressives can learn something here.

Angry Hoosier Dad-
A "Yahoo" is a part human creature out of Gulliver's Travels... a very repulsive thing.

However, I suspect most folks who use the expression are not aware of that origin.
