Rules Are Rules

Joe Wilson has now been censured for shouting "You lie!" during the president's recent address to the joint session, because "liar" is not among the presidential insults approved for use by House members.

Under section 370 of the House Rules and Manual, it is only appropriate to shout out that the president is "something hated, something oppressive," that he's "using legislative or judicial pork," that his message is "a disgrace to the country," or say that the president (or other official) is among the "half-baked nitwits handling foreign affairs."

However, in the interest of saving time and shortening speeches, Hope n' Change suggests that members of the House should now simply shout "SECTION 370!" whenever the president is lying.

Thought Question of the Day: Can a political body which has actually created a long list of rules for acceptable and unacceptable presidential insults be trusted to simplify our healthcare system?

Who said they wanted to simplify it?

Jeffersonian, as hard as it is for anyone sane to believe it, this is pretty much what Obama has been saying.

He claims that the system will be simplified and streamlined (and savings realized) by computerizing records, and by reducing the number of medical options that doctors can use to treat patients (in the name of efficiency, of course).

Without the promise of simplification, the fiction of savings falls apart. What a surprise!

San Fran Nan lost her dignity years ago. I think it got sucked out by her plastic surgeon.
