Death and Taxes
Click Cartoon for Larger Size
The Democrats are scrambling to ratify a permanent death tax which will grab up to 45% of the estates of the wealthy. However, the "wealth" of the deceased often includes the value of family farms or businesses, which must be sold to pay off the government rather than allowing family members to inherit or keep the businesses running.
So the tax accomplishes two things: it kills jobs when jobs are desperately needed, and it gives liberals more money to pass out to their friends. In Democratic circles, this is known as a "win-win."

Of all the robbery that our government does, this is the absolute worst. It is the height of treachery that generational property of land or investments or homes should be taken by the government under guise of "tax".
Oh and I meant to say its also cowardly to steal from a dead person....
Yep, we keep moving back to the days when we had to tell King George what he could do with his taxes.
Suzy & Drjim- We very much agree. All of the wealth in a person's estate is what is left over after they've previously paid taxes on it.
But somehow the fact that the government is only screwing a few people is presented as if it makes everything alright. But would we give the same tacit blessing to a man who only rapes one woman out of a dozen, or a pedophile who only molests one child out of a hundred?
It's not about the number of people you harm, it's the fact that you're harming anyone at all for your self-gratification (and for Democrats, spending other people's money definitely falls under that heading).

What's more popular than sticking it to the rich? Sticking it to the rich who are dead. Almost a victimless crime...except their heirs who get left holding the bag (that's the bag that used to be full of money).
The sad thing is, some of these people wouldn't be considered "rich"....especially if the wealth is only in land. So when you die, all your family HAS is the land...to sell...to pay the taxes...since in some cakes, not a whole lot of actual cash is inherited. This affects more than just the "rich".
Oops LOL some "cases"...geez....can you tell what I do for a living...
Blah. Does anyone know how this would affect my family who has put all of our property into a 'living trust'?
Joe- Hope n' Change is a professional political humor service and is not board-certified to advise on matters of law. However, in a very general way, we can opine that a Living Trust will probably allow you to skirt the inheritance tax. We can also opine that it's criminal that people need to pay bloodsucking lawyers to set up complicated trust plans just to keep the government leeches from sucking the marrow out of the bones of the dead.
