On Thursday, the FCC is poised to approve over 300 pages of new Internet regulations from Barack Obama that nobody is being allowed to see. Which should be a pretty good clue about whether or not the regulations will bring more freedom of information to the American people.
The so-called "Net Neutrality" regulations would govern the Internet according to century-old utility rules (which is good news for those of you who enjoy morse code and telegraphy) and will also include oversight and input from the Federal Election Commission to help ensure that Americans won't be exposed to too much confusing political news and commentary like the cartoon below...
WE'RE HAVING SOME FUNDS NOW...
At the time of this writing (technically, "five o'clock somewhere") it appears that Republicans are caving in their attempts to defund implementation of Barack Obama's massive "get out of jail free, never leave, and take thousands of dollars in taxpayer money" plan for several gajillion illegal aliens.
And the reason they're caving is because Barack Obama and the Democrats threatened to defund the Department of Homeland Security entirely because, in the words of DHS chief Jeh Johnson, "it's better to let terrorists in than to keep illegal aliens out."
Okay, he didn't actually say that - but damned if we can think of any other way to interpret his actions.
WHEN OIL IS SAID AND DONE...
The president, who loves century-old technology when it comes to the Internet, finds pipes "too scary and untested" and so assured that oil will continue to be shipped across our heartland in environmentally friendly gas-guzzling trucks and exploding train tankers instead.
Proponents of the Keystone XL Pipeline vow that they will continue the fight, and voiced confidence in their new strategy to gain presidential approval: they plan to tell Obama (and Jeh Johnson) that, instead of carrying oil, the pipeline will be filled with an unending stream of illegal aliens.
ONE MORE THING...
Do you read The Daily Gouge? It's a fun and freewheeling political blog from a good friend of Hope n' Change. Check it out!

So, how's that Republican controlled House and Senate y'all voted for working for you now?
I'd say not a single member of government has America's interest at heart, but perhaps that is only because I see no change happening. Øbama is still unimpeached. The NSA is still illegally spying on everyone. Taxes are still going up. The border is still wide open. Etc, etc, and etc. Maybe after they all take a long spring vacation on our dime things will be different. Yeah...right.
The most transparent administration evah!! I am at least glad that this particular stinking pile of government crap will hit the basement dwelling pajama boys where it hurts. Too bad the rest of us will suffer from net neuterality as well. Where the hell is any push back? From anyone?
Who is John Galt?
I just sent this message to McConnell's website, for all the good it will do. Light up the phones. I don't know what else to do....
Sir,
The results of the historic 2014 election are being nullified by the cowardly, feckless actions of you and your GOP cohorts. I am ashamed to be an American. I gave $1,000 to the Romney campaign. I will never give another cent to the "one shade less red" party. I will probably never vote Republican again. Let it go down in flames. As Ben Franklin said, "you've got your republic, if you can keep it". Obviously we can't.
You make me ill.
Since the "dic" in the White House is a total ideologue, he will veto anything the Republican Congress passes for the next two years Nothing important will get done until he is gone!!!!!! Too bad half the country doesn't get it.
Good one, Tricky!!
Why is it that I feel like Taz showing up every time I see or hear anything coming from Øbama and his minions anymore?
What ever happened to the concept of "of the people"? How can the government be acting on the interests and desires "of the people" when the "people" don't know what the hell the gov't is DOING?!!!!! Isn't that kinda the way it works in DICTATORSHIPS? "I decree, you capitulate, or ELSE!" Seems like the only difference between us and Russia is that Vladimir Poopin has BALLS!
Where are the Repubicans [sic] with SPINES?! They're gonna be called RACISTS even if they crawl under lamont's desk and give him a Lewinsky!
It just amazes me how lying has become the surrogate for integrity in DC. If you can get away with your line of BS then you're a success. The unemployment is under 6%, (when it's 11.2%, because they don't count those who've lost hope of ever getting work), we earned extra votes because so many have registered as democraps, (the dead , illegal, and those using electronic voting machines that select liberals even if you "write-in" cartoon characters). And, speaking of SUCcess, I heard that Monica Lewinsky went in to the Oral Office on her knees to suggest to lamont that she had an idea of how she could create a "job" for him. He had her thrown out because "jobs" is NOT something he has any interest in!
Treecky Reecky,
I wrote a similar note to the GOP of El Paso County to indicate to them that the turbo-charger sound on Presidential Drive in western Simi Valley is Ronnie spinning in his grave! Unfortunately, like lamont, when a group has an ideology that trumps their duty, the duty always loses! My Rep, Slug Lamborn, has never distinguished himself as a fighter, (like Addison Graves "Joe" Wilson, Sr. who said "you lie" when lamont said illegals would not get healthcare from lamontocare), so I guess I'd better run for congress on the "Kickass" ticket!
Effing Republicans. Reneging on their campaign promises.
Effing "progressives" - these communists have infiltrated the FCC and are going to "curb our enthusiasm" so to speak. Censor us, in plaintext.
And they lie about science.
Libertarian all the way. Power corrupts.
One more bit of good news - if the Internet is classified as a public utility, it can then be taxed as one. Estimates are that this would cost consumers an additional $15 billion annually - not to mention the stifling effect on innovation and economic growth... and eventually free speech.
Only a liberal would think that government could take the greatest technological success story in history and make it better.
Well, as of Thursday the camel will be fully in the tent once a bunch of unelected bureaucrats vote on a 300+ page rule that will become law so that only then we can find out what's in it. Of course, even though the Communications Act of 1934 will basically empower the FCC to do practically anything it wants in terms of "regulating" the Internet, the FCC chair promises a "light touch"; Because if unelected bureaucrats, politicians, and this administration in particular are known for anything, it's for keeping their promises and their predisposition for a "light touch" when it comes to regulating other people's lives and businesses. I'm sure the IRS believes they have a "light touch" as well. In time, this "light touch" will probably eclipse the "If you like your health plan..." lie.
I wouldn't expect the FCC to go pre-1984 on the Internet right away; back when the government or phone company could literally dictate what kind of equipment you could use or exactly how you could use it. But they could do so if they wanted. Which they say they won't. Right now, anyway.
Anyone remember a decade back when the left was going ballistic when they said John Ashcroft wanted to go to the library to have a look-see on your reading list? Where are those people now?
@Stilton, brilliant observation about the need for secrecy on this, because there's no need for secrecy when more freedom is involved.
The DHS Situation: Once again, the bureaucracy is punishing you for voting incorrectly. Want inspectors at ports and bombs kept off airplanes? Well, then you're going to have to accept open borders as well. (I know; makes no sense to me either, but that's what they want)
And once again, the establishment GOP thanks you folk for putting them back in Congress. They'd like you to go away now until they need you again in 2 years to elect another establishment crony to act against your will and interests. Feel like you've been taken for granted? This is what it must feel like to be a minority Democrat.
Keystone: No surprise here, since the President only likes infrastructure projects that are done with inefficient taxpayer dollars and have little to no economic return. So the Canadians will just sell it to the Chinese.
After six longgggg years of this regime, I think it would be fairly safe to assume that each important issue will be handled 100 per cent politically by this administration to the detriment of the country.
It virtually leaves nothing to talk about, as we know which way the prez is going to go in any situation.
But I sure do appreciate each and every good American who hangs out here...I have been enlightened many times. Thanks, folks and to the purveyor, too!
When the next tanker-train of Canadian crude oil wrecks in a town and causes havoc, pollution and loss of life; and with DHS unable to respond; might the Idiot-in-Chief send Biden to paw it out & offer lots of comfort? And he's doing nuclear deals with Iran? Can't we start getting rid of this traitor yet?
@Pamecon- Uh, you're welcome...?
@Geoff King- I don't want to throw the GOP out entirely yet, but this is a pretty inauspicious start. In this situation, the Dems are absolutely refusing to fund DHS unless the illegals get to stay, play, and get paid. And with Jeh Johnson hinting that the Mall of America might become the Mauled of America, the GOP didn't want to have their necks on the line.
All of that being said, we're still eating a big ol' crap sandwich here.
@TrickyRicky- The pajama boys and girls don't know how net neutrality will hurt them yet - and maybe never will if the regulations pass and information can be "controlled."
By the way, I laugh every time I read "who is John Galt?" because I actually know John Galt - a very funny and talented voice actor in the DFW area. (If any of you know the old game "Shadow Warrior," he provided the voice.)
Regarding the message to McConnell, I think it's appropriate to express our disappointment. Big time.
@Judi King- But with Keystone, he's also vetoing something a lot of Dems and unions want. But he's got a big "green" billionaire contributor who doesn't want it - and so the American people get screwed. Again.
@American Cowboy- There's a lot of that going around.
@Bruce Bausch- Government currently serves the public the same way a waiter serves an entree.
@alpha=1/137, sorta said- No question that I'm more Libertarian than anything else. I have zero love for the Dems or the GOP, although I do loathe the Dems a bit more.
@CenTexTim- But with those new taxes, the gummint can provide high speed internet access to all those job-seekers currently in ISIS!
@John the Econ- The promise of a "light touch" does nothing whatsoever to reassure me. I really do think that political blogs like this one will find their way into the crosshairs rather quickly - certainly before the next election.
The DHS hornswaggle pisses me off greatly. If it would mean we could get rid of all the illegals, I'd say to go ahead and tell the DHS to take a flying leap and let an armed public deal with terrorism directly.
Finally, those who clicked on the link in today's commentary will see that prior to his re-election, Barry was promising to expedite construction of the Keystone Pipeline. Now, 3 years later, he claims that his hands are tied and we'd be moving "too quickly" if he didn't veto it. Lying crapstack.
@PRY- Those of us who are down on Obama base our judgements on facts and experience. Those who think well of Obama do so entirely as an act of faith.
@Rod- Pipelines are by far the safest and most economical means of transporting the oil which our economy still depends on. Trucks and trains are expensive and frequently dangerous.
But of course, the real reason Barry hates the pipeline is because he hates anything which might add to American energy independence...or show that jobs really can be created when Republicans and Democrats work together.
Unbelievable. Vandals cut a single fiber optic cable some 150 miles south of where I live in Flagstaff, Az. All cell, landline, and internet went down in Flag for many hours. ATMs did not function. 911 was down, and people talked of an EMP strike.
I had no clue that it was that easy to take out all communications in a city of this size. You would think they would build some redundancy in the system, but no.
Without the internet, people were actually forced to talk to one another or read a book. It was a very scary situation.
A lot of democrats may want the pipeline but only 9 dem. senators and 21 dem. congressmen voted for it. I guess this can be called bi-partisan. But, by it's being vetoed, it will be perceived by the low infos as "nothing getting done" and could affect the 2016 election.
Speaking of jobs, I just came across this most bizarre story, which emanated from BMSNBC and the Rachel Maddow show. It's an excellent example of how confused Progressives are regarding basic economics.
"Congressional Republicans are in a position to block every effort to raise the federal minimum wage, but the economy is moving on without them. Some of the nation’s largest retailers – Gap, Ikea, and Wal-Mart, among others – have already raised their company’s minimum wages. Today, another major retailer joined the club, reinforcing the larger trend... Remember, as was the case with Wal-Mart, this is a done deal – it’s a private-sector move, which will occur regardless of Congress’ wishes."
So, the GOP is careless, thoughtless, evil, whatever for not proceeding with raising the Federal Minimum Wage. But the private economy is raising wages anyway so it really doesn't matter.
And the article also concedes that as labor tightens, employers other than Walmart will have to raise wages as well to retain people.
So basically, the free market works, and there's no reason to raise the minimum wage other than for political theater. But the GOP is still bad for not doing so.
An aside: I have long since discontinued the use of the term "liberal" to describe the Democrats and the bulk of left-leaning ideology in this country, and feel it important to explain why.
Since the reign of Obama, there is very little "liberal" left within the left. There hasn't been anything "liberal" in the left's economic agenda for generations. Today, Obama through the FCC is going to begin their clampdown on the last bastion of freedom in our economy, the Internet. The vast majority of our universities, formerly bastions of liberalism today not only have squelched open debate and free speech, but are now doing what the left has always accused the GOP of trying to do, sending women back to the 1950s.
The people behind this are anything but "liberal". They are more accurately "fascists", "communists", or "totalitarians". I use the more historically concise term "Progressive". The "Progressive" movement in America is where all the Communists went when they discovered that Americans had no interest in communism between the world wars. The Progressives softened their message, finally finding resonance with the baby boomers during the '60s. Since then, it's been a slow march back to the real goal, totalitarianism.
Either way, there's nothing "liberal" about "totalitarianism". The word "liberal" has its root in the Latin root "liber", which means free, as in "liberty". I hazard to say that pretty much everyone here in this room is far more of a "liberal" than your average Democrat today.
Try pointing that out to someone who thinks they're still a "liberal" sometime.
The Patriot Act was possibly the least patriotic bill ever passed in our country. The Affordable Care Act is possibly the least affordable bill ever passed. Is there any among you that believe that the Net Neutrality Act will resemble anything close to neutrality? For me, the government taking control of an information system that is as close to perfect as anything can be is the beginning of the end for freedom of speech. And our beloved Republicans are evidently going to let it go through unchallenged. Excuse me while I Harf.
Stilt,
The thought of gov't serving the public as a waiter serves an entree would be accurate if the waiter served a meal YOU DIDN'T ORDER, CHARGES YOU 4 TIMES WHAT HE PROMISED, AND THEN TELLS THE NEXT CUSTOMERS THEY HAVE TO CLEAN UP THE MESS ON THE TABLE!!!!
Also, I was thinking, you have three comics and comments on lamont for today. Considering them being about lamont, wouldn't make it a "trif*ckta"?
It's NOT 'net neutrality'; it's 'net neutering'
And congratulations to Barry Hussein Soetoro for vetoing the Keystone Pipeline Bill on Tuesday. 40,000+ 'folkssss' who are out of work, and could have worked on this project thank you with raised middle fingers. This Narcissistic Sociopath Socialist America hating Megalomaniac has now become the biggest job killer in America since the great depression.
I find myself editing a lot of nonsense forwarded from friends and I tell them that these exaggerated stories make us look as dumb as donkeys
