Specifically, a Doomsday clock. |
Astonishingly, one of the better analyses of the resulting brouhaha comes from, of all people, Bill Maher (see, we told you that wonders never cease) who said "the people at the school thought it might be a bomb, because it looks exactly like a f*cking bomb." The whole segment is worth watching. Not to mention that there will be ice skating in Hell today, because Hope n' Change even agrees with what Chris Matthews says here. Chris even drops an f-bomb (perhaps mistaking it for a clock)...
BONUS: GOD'S WRIGHT HAND
One of the dumbest political stories to get traction in recent days (and trust us, that's a pretty high bar to clear) relates to a townhall meeting in which an audience member referred to Barack Hussein Obama as a Muslim and - horror of horrors! - Donald Trump didn't immediately declare that Barry is actually a Christian and, in all likelihood, the Second Coming.
Granted, Obama is widely known for his declarations that when times get tough he'll "stand with Islam," that "the future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam," that ISIS ("Islamic State") is not Islamic, and that Christians in flyover country are bitter little people who "cling to guns and religion."
But he also says that he's a Christian (albeit one who avoids church like the plague, seems awfully vague on Scripture, and has been instrumental in ramping up government harrassment of Christians) - so where does the truth lie? And why is it Donald Trump's job to figure out whether to believe Obama's words or his actions (you can't do both) and explain it to everyone else?
The always-brilliant Mark Steyn has a lot to say on the subject and you should definitely follow the link to his piece. Even though we at Hope n' Change aren't religious, when Steyn brings down Hell and damnation on the hypocrites pushing this story, he makes us believe.

@Stilton great link to Mark Steyn.
Dr. Carson was on “Meet the Press” and he was asked if he would support a Muslim as POTUS?
In Responding he said, “I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation. I absolutely would not agree with that.” He also said that Islam, as a religion, is incompatible with the Constitution. Is Hillary Muslim or something? So ridiculously irrelevant.
What’s with the stupid “gotta” questions instead of policy questions?
The Leftist Elite Media, not being Christian themselves, would not know how to judge if Hussain is a Christian or not. All they have are their prejudices and leftist agenda to judge by. And don't leftists always say, "who are you to judge, anyway?" The Dissonance, it hurts, make it go away.
The clock needed a big 9/10 snooze button. That would have fixed it!
@Stilton-I had every intention of linking to the Steyn column, I'm glad that you beat me to it since more people will make the click. Definitely the most to the point, scathing and vital Steyn in quite a while. Everyone, please pass it on. I read it last night just before I went to sleep. I'm not sure if that, or another impending work week was the reason I tossed and turned all night. Oh, and great "clock" image Stilt.
A person can CLAIM to be whatever they choose but that doesn't make it true. Actions speak louder than words!!! Thanks for the great Steyn link.
Mark's last line sells the entire piece. Good job! Thanks, Stilt, for finding this.
@Joseph ET- Ben Carson, in his openness, keeps answering questions which he should swat away. There aren't any Muslims running for President, and so the question should be dismissed as a hypothetical.
But that being said, to the extent that candidates keep bringing up their own religious values as being salient to the office, it's legitimate to ask them if there are any religions which would not be acceptable. Carson answered honestly and, I think, accurately.
@Jan Blickenstaff- Exactly right. Those media folks are perfectly happy to accept that a person is whatever religion they claim to be, because the whole issue seems inconsequential and childish to them. How could a man possibly be Muslim if he says he's Christian? Then again, it's a safe bet that these same reporters would give you blank, drooling stares if you ask them if they've heard of Taqiyya - the Muslim practice of lying to non-believers (including about whether you're Muslim) to further the growth of Islam.
@Mike aka Proof- It seems like this administration is already in snooze mode when it comes to our security.
@TrickyRicky- Steyn is smart, funny, and fearless. And when he gets fired up on a subject, his invective can peel paint. And this column, in particular, struck me as a "must read."
@Judi King- When I look at Obama's actions, I have heard him praise (in a personal and emotional way) all things Islamic many times. I have also heard him denigrate and belittle the Bible and those who strive to structure their lives in accordance with its teachings.
Perhaps Trump should simply tell the Lefty press that there is only one entity who can judge whether or not Obama is Christian. And He isn't giving interviews.
@Geoff King- I don't think there are many other cultures or countries where Barry could make a go of it. He has no demonstrable skills other than guile and political agitation...and in the Middle East, that's a dangerous combination.
@Bobo the Hobo- My pleasure!
All this brouhaha about Trump's non-correction started when he was in a town hall meeting and the statement was thrown out by a random attendee. Have you noticed now that all the headlines and story leads refer to this guy as a Trump SUPPORTER? We know nothing about this guy. Who's to say he wasn't a plant? Maybe, maybe not, but now, according to the MSM he is a Trump supporter.
Two issues that are germane to this conversation...
1. Judging is NOT prohibited in the Bible... HYPOCRITICAL judging is prohibited.
"Do not judge lest you be judged. For in the way you judge, you shall be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matt. 7:1-2 (continue to verse 5 for entire context.)
2. Christians are enjoined to inspect the FRUIT of others to determine their relationship to God, positions and integrity. lamont's fruit is reggie love AND the lauding of mooselimism, (a false religion and fertility cult)... completely contrary to the modus operandi of true Christianity.
Dear Mr. Stinky Cheese Comic Man, You are "da bomb" ... ::snork:: Today's toons and commentary are exactly what I've been struggling (failing) to put into words. Thank you!
Hey, let's give poor Ahmed Mohammed a break. He's just preparing for a future career as a peace-loving Iranian nuclear engineer...
Stilton: Straight on - the primary value that Trump brings to the table is a lovely fire that wilts those tender PC flowers. I'm reminded of the Trump interview a few weeks back where the 'interviewer' mentioned that David Duke supported Trump, and with that in mind would Trump repudiate Mr. Duke? In standard Donald fashion Mr. Trump replied something to the effect of; "Would it make you feel better if I said yes. Then sure, yes. I really don't know the guy". As to your answer to Geoff King (sure that wasn't Judi?), I've read it thrice now and all is get is: "why yes, he would be a perfect fit for the typical Moslem politic...".
As to Judeo Christian culture, though I'm not much of a believer myself, I sure as hell believe in many of those that were and are. I am constantly amazed at the number of seemingly intelligent people who would assume that the default setting of human nature is 'groovy', so who needs to believe in a higher power? It would appear that their major blind spot here is in knowing about and understanding human history - that the path from barbarism to civilized society is a long, difficult slog through the worst of intentions towards the best. They as well never consider that metaphorically, the hands of the Judeo Christian deity are fettered, whilst the hands of Allah are not. That is, a god that makes the rules and does not arbitrarily break them, versus a god that consistently does. No guess as to where science flourishes, and where it withers.
@Stilton: I agree with your reply to my comment, which has somehow disappeared. I hope you did not find it inappropriate.
@Boligat- I agree that we know nothing about the person who asked the question, and calling him a "supporter" is an unsupported reach.
@Bruce Bleu- Both points make good sense to me.
@Chrissy T. Hyphenated- Glad to be of service!
@CenTexTim- Is there any other kind?
@Mike Porter- Good points. I do enjoy seeing the way Trump handles the press, and wish that every other GOP candidate was doing more of the same.
Per the second half of your comment, even those folks like myself who don't believe in a "higher power" in a traditionally religious sense are damn fools if they think that they're anywhere near the top of what's really going on in this universe. Humility is good in these situations and, by extension, empathy for everyone else who was "created equal."
@Geoff King- Sorry Geoff, but your comment was a little out of my comfort zone and so I forwarded it to Hillary Clinton's email server (grin).
Wow, well measured logic and common sense from Bill Maher? Perhaps these are the end times. Thanks @Stilton for finding that clip that I otherwise never would have seen. I really couldn't believe what I saw there.
Of course, this whole "clock" thing smelled fishy from the very beginning. Then came out that Ahmed's dad is political character who is a perennial candidate for presidency of Sudan and calls himself a "sheik". So it wasn't a surprise that cameras were always running, and the folks at the Council on American-Islamic Relations were at the ready to push the anti-Muslim narrative. And of course, the mainstream and social medias sucked it up.
And trying to make this a racial thing is absurd. Under the "zero tolerance" insanity that has been going on for decades now, kids of all races, (but mostly white) have been suspended, arrested, and expelled for far less egregious activities, such as wearing NRA & Confederate flag t-shirts, pointing "finger guns", chewing guns made out of graham crackers, and even more hard-to-imagine sillinesses.
When I recollect back to what's left of the memories of my adolescent educational experience, I literally cannot count the the times that I did otherwise non-criminal things that today would get me expelled, if not arrested. I was a proto-engineer tinkerer that made things that by today's standards looked at least as threatening as the disassembled clock that Ahmed, and regularly took them to school, along with the pocket knife I kept on my keychain. What we should be protesting is not just the treatment of Ahmed, but of the thousand of otherwise normal American kids that regularly get oppressed by a moronic educational establishment totally lacking in common sense.
Trump's latest non-controversy: So Trump refuses to beat up a birther. BFD.
Never mind that Obama's father was a Muslim. Obama's step-father was a Muslim. Under Islamic law, that makes Obama a Muslim. In itself, the question really shouldn't be controversial. Certainly no more so that questioning Romney's Mormonism was. After all, America hasn't been in in any shooting wars with Mormons lately.
Also, Ben Carson is taking heat for saying that the United States should not elect a Muslim president. Of course, I know that the more cynical among you think we already have.
Of course, this is all a head-fake by the left. The left of this country would no more tolerate a true Muslim as a candidate than they'd accept a devout Christian evangelical. They really think the GOP is conducting a "war on women"? So much for any "freedom to choose", especially where issues of sex are involved. The only debate in Islam regarding homosexuality is the proper manner in which they are to be tortured before being brutally executed. And there's no "freedom from religion" under Islam, much less freedom of. The ACLU would find it's mission highly challenged.
No, a true Muslim candidate, even a supposedly "moderate" one would not go over with the left at all. If the GOP was the least bit smart, they'd push this narrative. But they won't. They're just too timid.
As I've said many times here before, I don't believe that Obama is a Muslim. If anything, he's a Marxist that like all true Marxists despises all devout religious people, (hence his "bitter clingers" comment) and only respects religion as a tool to control large numbers of people. (Case in point, have you heard about the guest list Obama has assembled for Pope Francis's visit?)
Do note that such an embarrassment would never happen at a Hillary rally, mainly because so few people actually willingly go to Hillary rallies, and those who do are forced to sign loyalty oaths before entering.
So what do these stories have in common? The leftist media working diligently to reinforce the narrative that America is an unjust, racist nation, and that conservatives are the base for that evil. And rare kudos to Bill Maher for not falling for it like almost all of his media brethren.
Oh, and happy UN International Peace Day. You can be forgiven for not noticing.
Stilton: Your work is the best. You make Thomas Nast look like an amateur.
Stilt, I could not access the Bill Maher earlier - now that I have watched it, I cannot believe I actually agree with the guy. I guess there's hope for libs yet.
Sure sign of the End Times. I agreed with Bill Maher.
What is funny is that we can't blame Ahmed that Muslims blow up stuff around the world, but we can sure blame white people for slavery that happened before we were even BORN.....
Steyn's column definitely a must-read!
Being the imperfect sinful person that I was born as, as we all are, I finally established a relationship with Jesus Christ in my 20's, a truly life-changing decision...shortly I was starving to understand the Bible, and after my requests thru prayer, I received this priceless gift!
But even though I knew God had changed my sinful nature to righteousness in His eyes, life became very difficult at times, as the bible says it will as evil attacks the child of God. Jesus said, "If they hated me, they will hate you"...and I have found that to be true. Still, I KNOW who has saved me...all that to say what the Word of God says when observing someone's actions and manner of living, such as the President's, that "you will know a tree by its fruit".
What sort of fruit do YOU see?
Dr. Carson may have stepped in it this time, but dollars to donuts, it won't hurt him one lick in the polls. Folks are sick to death of the ongoing onslaught of liberal's PC bullshit, and he basically just said what most people think anyway. Not to be prejudiced against religions, but I wouldn't want a Rastafarian president either.
As far as the little bomb maker, really? He took the guts out of an old alarm clock, and put them in a small briefcase, expecting some blue ribbon at the science fair? Now if a 9 year old, nerdy white kid did that, it's funny. A teenage Muslim kid who's father has ties to The Sudan? I guess we are fortunate he didn't go ahead and put the dang C4 in there. Maybe that was for the next science project if this one didn't get scrutinized. A white kid got expelled for biting a friggin' Pop Tart into the shape of a gun, but we need to cut little Ahmed some slack?
Great toons as always! :)
A couple of things- I grind my teeth every time there's a discussion about Ahmed Clockzizz that includes how "smart he is". The kid took the guts out of an old clock, moved them, un-modified into a pencil case, calls it his "invention", and no one stops to ask, WTF? What was the point of that? It's not an invention, it's not an improvement to an existing product, it is WORTHLESS. So my question is why did he do it, and how smart can he be if he does that and thinks it's correct to call it his invention?
On Obama, hell, in that 2008 interview with George Snufalufagus, Obama flat out said "... McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith, and you're absolutely right..." The major takeaway in that statement is that he just kept going- if his pal George hadn't interrupted him to tell him he was supposed to say he was Christian, he would not have thought twice about it. Bottom line is, I don't think that was a slip of the tongue.
Keep up the good work, SJ!
As I like Dr. Carson as a man, I think this illustrates why he's either not ready or not capable of being President. As a conservative candidate, you have to expect that these obviously leading and hostile gotcha questions are going to be coming at you at all times by the establishment media. When he saw where this was going, he should have responded in-kind.
I do give him credit for not backing down from his answer, like I'd expect of most of the rest of the GOP squishies. But we need to realize that "multiculturalism" is the #2 on the totem poll of abject Progressive values. The boobs on Meet the Op-press-ion might as well have asked if he'd support electing headhunters for President, and the correct answer still would have been "yes". If teleported back to 1944, these guys would let Tojo run out of "fairness".
As I said above, the reality is that very few Democrats would vote for a true Muslim because Islam is far more hostile to core Democratic Party principles than even the far-right of the GOP is. Oh, I'm sure that at least initially a Muslim would poll very well, since no well-meaning leftist would dare respond to any survey to the contrary. But come election day, the tally would be limited to members of CAIR and the Syrians (and non-Syrians) we're about to import.
I good comeback for Dr. Carson (or any of the remaining GOP contenders) would have been, "Are you going to ask that question of Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders or any of the other Democratic candidates? And if you do, will you be expecting an honest answer?" I'm not holding my breath on that happening; either such a response from the GOP wimps, or the media daring to challenge any Democrat with a hardball question like that.
The big gotcha question during the last presidential election cycle was “How old is the Earth?” They were trying to find out if the candidate was of the Biblical (evolution) view or the Creationists view. When they failed to have the correct answer (Creationists view) they would be ridiculed because “We all should understand the age of Earth is not a matter of opinion, but a scientific fact: Our planet formed 4.54 billion years ago.” So, if the candidate didn’t know that “fact” they must be unqualified to serve. At least that’s about how I remember it. When do we get this question again?
So, are GOPsters hoping that if they keep on acting as though Ahmad's clock was a bomb, the rest of us will start to believe it, or anyway to doubt our own memories of what happened...?
Meanwhile, in the "moderate" Muslim world:
Saudi Arabia is preparing to behead and crucify a 21-year-old activist
Again, when will the Democrat candidates get asked about this? I mean I know the Clintons at least fantasize about being able to simply execute political opponents. But it would at least be interesting to at least ask Hillary about how wonderful a true Muslim President would be.
As Bill Maher suggests, how bad is life really for Muslim kids in America with their phony alarm clocks? At least here, poor Ahmed (or his dad) isn't about to lose his head over it like he might in some "moderate" Muslim countries.
@john m burt- You're missing the point entirely. Ahmed did not build a bomb, and no one is saying he did. He was owed an apology and got one.
BUT, the police and school officials also acted correctly. Ahmed brought a suspicious device to school and, when pressed for answers about it, refused to cooperate - making his own situation worse.
Then B. Hussein jumped in to essentially ridicule the school authorities and police for doing their jobs, making it less likely that people in the future will be willing to say something if they see something suspicious. That makes us all less safe.
