Friday Free-For-All

Readers: Here we go again! In the spirit of TGIF, here are several cartoons on events of interest that I wanted to comment on (and hear your comments on).

Circle The Date

After Barack Obama's autobiography made it clear that when he orders a restaurant doggy bag there's really doggy in it, fact checkers have now discovered that there's a major problem with the mysterious "girlfriend" that Barry refers to in his book: she didn't exist.

Obama is now claiming that the unnamed girlfriend described in "Dreams From My Father" is actually a composite of the many, many, many heterosexual women he dated who have (with one exception) never come forward and never been found.

In fairness, the Bamster said in the foreword (ha!) of his allegedly nonfiction book that some characters were compressed and composites. But Obama describes events like the racial insensitivity of his white girlfriend after watching an "angry but funny" black play, fighting with her about it, and her dissolving into tears wishing she could be black like him.

Only this never happened to Genevieve Cook (the woman known to have dated Barack), meaning there is no substantiation whatsoever that the event ever happened...and that it wasn't just invented as another way for the future president to vent his seemingly bottomless resentment against white people.

Princess Running Gag

Elizabeth Warren, the woman who claims to have laid the "intellectual groundwork" for Occupy Wall Street, is a Democratic Senate candidate in Massachusetts - hoping to occupy Republican Senator Scott Brown's seat in the next election.

And according to the Harvard law professor's resume, she also enjoys all the benefits of minority status, because she is a Native American of the Cherokee tribe.

Except she isn't. Although claiming minority status clearly helps land a job at a liberal institution like Harvard, it now seems that Warren is unable to provide any genealogical proof that there has been a Native American in her family... although she claims that her great great great grandmother was a Cherokee.

In the absence of any documentation of her ancestry, Warren insists that her "high cheekbones" should be all the evidence anyone needs. But even if her claims are true, that makes her just 1/32nd Cherokee...and 31/32nds baldfaced liar.

Blind Injustice

This last story is by far the most important, and there's nothing funny about it.

Human rights activist Chen Guangcheng has been bravely fighting the real "war on women" in China, battling the forced abortions which are part of the regime's "one child only" policy. As a result, he was held captive by the government and, only days ago, made a daring escape and found his way to the safety of the US Embassy.

Or maybe we should say "presumed" safety. Because the presence of Chen, and the need to act on his situation, was politically uncomfortable for the United States - and the timing was awful, because Hillary Clinton was visiting China on a diplomatic mission and didn't want to rock the boat with Barack Obama's all-important moneylenders.

Which is why Chen was told by US officials that his wife would be beaten to death by the Chinese unless he left the safety of the embassy (a charge which US officials deny). And so he was returned to the Chinese government...where he now lives in minute-to-minute fear for his own life and that of his family.

Chen has begged to fly out of China on Hillary Clinton's jet and have his family be given political sanctuary in the United States. But so far, his requests have fallen on deaf ears. As of this writing, Hillary Clinton has made no public statements about Chen.

And there's no chance that Barack Obama will stand up to China over a little thing like human rights violations and a brave man's life. He's far too busy telling the world how courageous he is.

If only Chen were 1/32 Cherokee, or at least written a story about dating a 1/32 composite Cherokee chick, the Obama State Department would have flown him to the U.S. on Air Force One.

Speaking of composite characters:

‘Julia’ Becomes Vehicle for Obama’s Messaging

Mr. Obama’s campaign has invented “Julia,” a fictional woman whose life is chronicled in a slick infographic published on the campaign’s Web site on Thursday. Visitors to the site can watch as Julia grows up, receiving benefits from the president’s policies along the way.

If they had any balls, the Romney campaign ought to do a video about "Julia" as well; showing what her life will be like in an impoverished America. I'm thinking that by the time she's 30, she'll be a slave laborer in a factory making iPads for China. At least her recreational sex will be paid for.

Meanwhile, expect Obama to tout the 115,000 new jobs created last month. It's hardly an impressive figure, especially when you divide that by the number of Obama's campaign fundraising trips, vacations and visits abroad. That's barely enough prostitutes to service a secret service contingent.

@Steve Burri- There were reports that China and the US were working together to find a "face-saving solution" - albeit not necessarily a solution which would help Chen. This morning, it was announced: he can apply to travel abroad as a student "like anyone in China can." Does that mean his application will be accepted? Nope. Does that mean that the US can now make believe Chen never existed? Yep. So China is happy, the US State Department is happy, and Chen and his family are screwed six ways from Sunday.

@John Robert Mallernee- I appreciate the reposts. And rather than try to figure out whether I deserve credit or blame for the cartoons, let's just compromise on saying I take "responsibility."

@Greenleaf- Thank you!

@John the Econ- You may be the slave holding the whip, but you still need to grovel before your master. Even if that master lives in China instead of a big plantation house.

@alan markus- The "Julia" thing is a freaking nightmare, and just one more way that Obama is inventing things to run on rather than ever - ever - talk about his actual record. He issues a fable about how a fictional woman might benefit from a lifetime of his policies. He talks about how Mitt Romney might not go after a Bin Laden. He speechifies about a future that might have abundant energy coming from windmills and algae farms. I'd like to say that he's delusional, but that gives him too much credit: he's simply a liar.

@Gang of One- I appreciate the subversive posting for impressionable young minds. Hope I haven't complicated the task by throwing in some color today!

@John the Econ- "Julia" (actually a scathing conservative parody) already has her own Twitter page in which she's lambasting the president's policies. Nice to see so many nimble minds giving the Bamster the piranha treatment.

And the jobless numbers are abysmal, yet the media keeps trying to distract us with the sounds of a marching band and banners proclaiming that the unemployment rate is (barely) dropping. But the lower unemployment rate is due almost exclusively to the flood of people quitting the job market entirely and giving up. Roughly three times more people left the job market than found jobs in the last reported month. Our workforce participation is now the lowest it's been since 1981...and there are more Americans who aren't working, aren't looking for work, and have given up hope of ever finding work than ever before in our nation's history. That's the "good news" that our sorry MSM is happy about.

@Comanche Voter- I'm happy to read today that Warren is becoming a major embarrassment for the Dems. Not only because of her preposterous lie, but because it reminds everyone of how minority status is used to game a rigged system of employment. Which isn't the message that people who do want to find work want to hear.

@Gang of One- I'm going to refill my coffee cup, then follow your link to Michelle Malkin. Should be good fun!

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

@Angry Hoosier Dad- I know it might be wishful thinking on my part, but it seems like I've seen hints of testicular activity brewing in Romney's campaign. Which is important: if he plays it safe or concentrates on pleasing the moderates (instead of convincing them to become less moderate and more American) then he'll lose. But I'm hopeful.

CenTexTim said...

Stilton - I enjoy your work immensely. You have a great gift for skewering those who deserve it with insight and humor. Really good stuff.

But...

After a long week, to get three reminders of the absurdities that fill our world is a little dispiriting. I've run out of patience and energy, and just want to go sit quietly in a dark room and let others fight the good fight.

Or I guess I could just add a little bourbon to my coffee and carry on...

Emmentaler Limburger said...

Wait a minute. Wasn't "Dreams From The Sperm Donor" supposed to be Øbama's autobiography? Aren't such works supposed to be factual?! How can an alleged factual tome contain composite characters as that, even if the components ever existed, renders the character fictional. This person never ceases to amaze (and scare) me...

@John the Econ: You were the cause of my coffee being spewed this morning - particularly your adept analysis of Øbama's jobs creation metric...

Per Warren, I am purported to have an American Indian or two in my murky lineage, and my father-in-law's mother was 100% American Indian. None of my family nor of his (including my wife) have ever checked that particular box. To do so would be a surrender of our self-determination to the determination of mandated reverse discrimination. And is, therefor, repugnant...

Per Chen, he and his family are in my prayers. I wish we hadn't such pantywaists for leaders. If they had any cajones, those billions in bonds that China sold to gullible US investors so long ago would be the basis for telling the chinese government what they can do with their principle and interest expectations. (I'm sure I'll never be a foreign policy advisor :o)

@Stilt, your emphasis was on the wrong word, methinks. Øbama isn't about his courage; he's about Øbama. Instead of "...courageous he is." I read it as "...courageous he is."

Gang of One said...

@Stilton -- Unfortunately, I don't have a color printer here, but I print them out real big like, and I've spied students and faculty taking them in, and none have been torn down in several months -- I take this as an auspicious omen.

@CenTexTim -- I know what you mean, but don't despair. The conservative message is getting out there faster and louder than in 2008. The lamestream media is becoming a parody of itself, and guys like Stilton are gaining traction. It will be a long, bloody and difficult fight, but I believe as long as those voices on our side don't relent, 2012 will be landslide.
And really, there need not be any particular reason for adding bourbon to anything.

@Gang of One (re: Julia)

You beat me to it. I loved that post from Michelle. I like a lot of her posts, but I really love her work when she gets ticked off. And you can tell... this topic pushed her buttons big time.

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

@CenTexTim- I vote for the bourbon and coffee. And there were at least two other topics I thought about throwing in, but even I have my limits.

@Emmentaler- It's not unusual for there to be some composite characters, but it sure makes for a handy CYA device for things which can't be verified. It's entirely fair to ask what else in the Bamster's autobiographies is fudged or outright untrue. And the media never has.

Regarding Warren, I've read that Harvard wanted "minority" professors, even if they had to be invented. And that, my friends, is liberal hypocrisy of a very fine nature. Moreover, Warren listed her "Native American" status in a newsletter which was distributed to companies specifically looking for minorities to hire. It's all fraud and it's all a game. A cruel game, when you consider that Warren has doing her best to elbow out real minorities and take their jobs.

And regarding the use of italics in that closing sentence, I have to laugh. I did have the emphasis on "he" originally, but moved it. Either interpretation works, though; Chen is brave, and Obama is a mouthy coward pretending to be brave.

alan markus said...

Trying not to hijack this thread with the "Julia" thing, but seeing that the lead cartoon has to do with composite characters is either a coincidence or masterful comedic timing.

Here's another reaction:

Obama Campaign: Women Are Helpless

I don't know if there is a way to keep score, but this is another example where the Obama campaign tries to damage Mitt Romney (and Paul Ryan too) & lose control of the message.

Another "unforced error" - Romney didn't have to lift a finger - Obama campaign did this themselves.

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

@alan markus- I watched the "Julia" presentation to see how great it is to be a woman who is a ward of the state. And it's interesting how few other people there are in Julia's life: as a child, she needs Headstart because her parents haven't prepared her for school. She decides to have a child, but apparently never marries (Obamacare will pay for a turkey baster, apparently). And on and on.

I'm encouraged by the idiocy of the Obama campaign tactics so far.

@Gang of One- The news about Chen is very encouraging. This can easily be spun as a foreign policy victory for Hillary Clinton, which will help when she's named to the ticket as Obama's new Veep (according to my crystal ball).

@Sam L- That's certainly how it's looked, but the news is more encouraging now. We'll just have to see if all the parties keep their word. For a change.

@Dan Oblak- Well, he didn't do any of those things according to the MSM's vetting process in 2008...

@Sam L- Obama and the Libs consider almost everyone to be incompetent and unable to care for themselves... especially women and minorities. I don't know why they don't find it unbelievably insulting.

@Colby- To this day, Mary Palm wears his ring.

@alan markus- What a beautiful, inspirational sentiment.

@Stan da Man- And then I met an asthmatic dog who had no pants.

Followin this obama dude and his stuff is mind-boggling sometimes! Stilt, you really do cover the news of the day the way it should be; with a little humor but a lotta fact!

On another issue, I see in many states, obama and Romney are pretty much neck-and-neck, which is very encouraging for me. I know the 'swing-voting moderates' will have to vote one way or the other, but I am still encouraged. As more and more inane antics from the left are brought to the light of day, I have to assume that a 'swing-voter' is actually PAYING ATTENTION, and not just flipping a flippin coin! At least I hope they are; at least it is obvious they are not in the tank for obama!

PRY said...

Oh, one other thing...I do believe this policy concerning Chen is probably one of the most disgraceful acts that I have witnessed by an American administration! This shows that obama and his crowd are more concerned with keeping their jobs than helping a decent family, even if they are of another country! I hope and pray more people can see this.

John the Econ said...

Yes @Stilton, the Obama Administration has a very retarded view of women, doesn't it? "Julia" really is a ward of the state; the kind of ward that the Progressives would like all of us to be; our "parents" would exist only for the purposes of reproduction, and from there it would be up to the state to raise us "properly".

Of course, this is a play for the "swing" women vote, who, unfortunately, tend to vote Democrat because of their "security" sell. Hopefully, enough of those women will be turned off by "Julia" and come to the realization (after 3+ years of Obamanomics) that there's little better future for them as slaves to the Democrat Party.

Gang of One said...

@Stilton [and all youse guys] -- Chen has been given a reprieve, this is without doubt. But, at what price -- for what did this Administration sell-out? What have we given the ChiComs for this Administration's face-save? The Maoists own us; they must have demanded [and gotten] something incredibly important to them and detrimental to us. Such is the DemocraticSocialist Party in this once-great nation.

JustaJeepGuy said...

Regarding Ms. Warren, isn't the election in Mass. just for a new Senate term and not a recall? Mr. Brown was elected to use up the term of the hero of Chappaquiddick, wasn't he? Or am I mistaken?

Pete(Detroit) said...

Jeep, that's my understanding as well. I'm more concerned about the whole "intellectual groundwork for the Occupy Movement" bit though - they hardly seem intellectual at ALL. Certainly, going $100k into debt to get a PhD in "women in post WWII literature in sub-Saharan Africa" doesn't seem too intelligent, to me. (I know someone who did this, she's currently a prof at American U in Bahrain, I think)
Seriously, that's starting life handicapped w/ a mortgage payment already, and you STILL have to find a place to live. Who's screwy idea *is* this, anyway. Maybe we should limit federal "assistance" (loans, grants, guarantees, etc) to "practical" fields of study? To also include skilled trades (electrician, plumber, etc)? So that at least when these uber goobers graduate, they'll have marketable skills?

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

@dennis bausch- If they did, you can rest assured that Warren is 1/32nd wracked with guilt.

@Suzy- HnC isn't exactly a reliable source (unless you're looking for a reliable representation of what my opinions are), but I try to do a good job of pointing people to the reliable sources that I base those opinions on.

@PRY- I'm encouraged by "neck and neck" numbers right now, because the Right hasn't opened up the full barrage on this president and his appalling record yet. I think Obama's numbers have nowhere to go but down.

@John the Econ- The "Julia" fantasy (or is it a liberal wet dream?) does suggest the "security" of having the government handle all the major issues in life. But it left a little something out: how much Julia (and that fatherless kid of hers) are going to pay for all of it. Where was the slide of Julia looking at a paycheck that has had 80% taken out for taxes? And where was the slide of Julia reacting to the news that Social Security has gone bankrupt in 2016?

Frankly, the whole "Julia" thing is stupid enough that it provides low-hanging fruit to satirists. I hope the Obama campaign keeps tossing these slow, underhand softballs... because it sure is fun smacking them out of the park.

@Gang of One- I'm glad that things are looking up for Chen, but do wonder what we gave up in return. Then again, what do we have left to give up?

@JustaJeepGuy- BRAIN FART!!! I have no good explanation for such an obvious mistake; somehow I confused Scott Brown and Scott Walker, and they're not even in the same state. Maybe juggling three cartoons in a single day is a little too much like juggling chainsaws; it's all fun until somebody gets hurt.

I've corrected the "recall" reference in the commentary, and will now stand in the corner to do penance. Thanks for pointing it out, and showing me the mercy of asking it as a question instead of starting your comment "Dear Dumbass..."

@Pete(Detroit)- Hey, when I screw up feel free to call me on it! Fortunately, the thrust of the commentary wasn't about the election itself, but about what a nincompoop Warren is...and that sentiment still stands.

As you point out, the "intellectual groundwork" for the Occupy movement is nothing to brag about: they never did settle on an actual goal or cohesive statement of purpose, but instead showed their "intellect" by setting things on fire, raping women, masturbating in public, and crapping on police cars. Then again, that sounds like the sort of intellectual enlightenment coming out of Harvard these days.

And I couldn't agree more about students who wrack up unbelievable loan debts while pursuing degrees in areas which will never provide a meaningful job. To a frightening and unacceptable degree, the goal of colleges these days is to turn out little clones of college professors - useless in the job market.

I'd like to see MUCH more emphasis on (and respect for) skilled trades. Because in today's interconnected world, the jobs in the information economy are going to go to India and China, where the people are just as smart, just as techno savvy, and will work for a lot less.

Young people in America would do well to pursue careers which require a physical presence, like those plumbers and electricians you mentioned. Moreover, as the economy craters, there will be a greater need for people to make repairs rather than replace items. Those who have the skills to make those repairs will only see rising demand as times get tough.

Mark Steyn has a scathing take-down of this Warren buffoon at National Review Online.
http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/299092/composite-americans-mark-steyn?pg=2

From the essay:
"Just in case you’re having difficulty keeping up with all these Composite Americans, George Zimmerman, the son of a Peruvian mestiza, is the embodiment of endemic white racism and the reincarnation of Bull Connor, but Elizabeth Warren, the great-great-great-granddaughter of someone who might possibly have been listed as Cherokee on an application for a marriage license, is a heartwarming testimony to how minorities are shattering the glass ceiling in Harvard Yard. George Zimmerman, redneck; Elizabeth Warren, redskin. Under the Third Reich’s Nuremberg Laws, Ms. Warren would have been classified as Aryan and Mr. Zimmerman as non-Aryan. Now it’s the other way round. Progress!"

JustaJeepGuy said...

@Stilt and @Pete, claiming to have laid the "intellectual" groundwork for the "occupy" movement is like claiming to have been the real person on whom George Costanza was based.
