A Fourth to be Reckoned With

obama, obama jokes, political, humor, cartoon, conservative, hope n' change, hope and change, stilton jarlsberg, lefty lucy, 4th of july

Hopefully no readers of Hope n' Change will be wrestling with Lefty Lucy's dilemma this holiday weekend (or her tendency to be distracted by shiny objects).

Rather, it's a time to celebrate all that is great and good about this magnificent country, despite the occasional rotten apple in the White House...

Barry's correct, unfortunately. Thanks to his anti-employment, "spread the wealth" policies we now have the lowest workforce participation rate since 1977, and over 93 million people who aren't in the work force (and, of course, don't even exist as far as unemployment calculations are concerned). And who knows, maybe a lot of them really do believe that the 4th is "in dependence" day. That's certainly what their votes would indicate.

But those worries are for another time. For now, let's forget our troubles, fly the flag, quaff a cold beer, and celebrate this glorious holiday with family, friends, and a very patriotic gal...

Fireworks?...What fireworks?! To all my fellow Patriots here @ Hn'C: May your 4th of July be filled family, friends, food, frivolity, and most of all; FREEDOM. A well made video to enjoy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRCVOWoshAg
Sorry I don't know how to make the link blue. God bless you all, and God Bless and save America.

Busty, I know where the fireworks are. I've made my choice.

Thanks, Stilt!

Hope you and yours have a Happy Independence Day!

In Santa Cruz CA which does not have fireworks because "they don't want to attract tourists because there would be traffic jams" and "they already have tourists", so they save their money to have fireworks on the birthday of the city in October but some people buy individual fire crackers. There is an outcry about those fireworks because it upsets dogs, and it upsets vets with post traumatic stress disorder.

Man I love your shit! You certainly have a way with words---a flare for the unvarnished truth---satire run amuck! Hell what more can I say. My latest offering from my man-cave Rantings from a pissed off ole southern fart redneck who will have his 76th birthday this July 5.

God bless my fellow Americans. Have a safe and wonderful 4th.
This year there will be lots of explosions and gunfire in the old neighborhood just like baltimore, detroit, dee cee or chicago on any given night of the week.

My grandparents and father left Germany in the early 20s to escape an imperial government. But it followed them here! For new immigrants, the sign at the border should now say,"Abandon hope, all ye who enter here." (Dante's Inferno). My sincere thanks and appreciation to all who have made it possible for this Republic to survive all these years. I pray that your efforts have not been in vain.

More often than not Northern Arizona is in an extreme fire danger situation this time of year and fireworks are prohibited. Often the National Forest is completely closed as well. This year, however, we had a much wetter than normal spring so fireworks, hot dogs on a campfire, and at least one good hangover is in the forecast.
Happy 4th everyone!

For all that's wrong in our country, there's also one heck of a lot that's right. It's still the greatest nation this world has ever seen.

God Bless America, and God Bless us all.

As I tried to watch the morning news I was struck by the ironic fact that American's in general are celebrating their independence with increased government surveillance (seen and unseen). And how some Independence Day celebrations have been called off in other locations.

From this patriotic, conservative, hard-working, gun owning, American Cowboy, HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!

Let us hope that we still have a country - a free country. Obamaturd is doing whatever he can to subjugate us. Now he is meeting with the head of the Vietnamese communist party. Party envy is the presumed reason. May he and all the other so-called progressive rot in ISIS controlled territory.

The rest of us, right-thinking glorious patriots descended from the originators of this Great Republic, enjoy this 4th of July.

And you too Doctor.

Oh and F-U George Takei.

The founding fathers knew how hard it would be to keep our republic. I don't imagine they could foresee the degradation of our culture and the ignorance of history that has led us to our current situation. May our ancestors not be ashamed of us. May we rally and not slide into the statist dustbin of history. Let us remain on the road to freedom, not the road to serfdom.

Celebrate our Independence, be safe, and stay thirsty my friends.

I'm trying to remain optimistic about the fate of our country but it's getting harder and harder. It's great to tune in here to get my hopes up. Thanks, Stilt, and all you other patriots.

Happy Independence Day all. Remember the EPA says to dial back the fireworks for
Mother Gaia and while you're at it, back off the grill too!

Bwahahaha, ain't happening.

Oh Lucy, I always seethe when I hear some ignorant woman go off about how racist, sexist or imperialist America supposedly is. It only demonstrates how insular your world actually is. But on the other hand, I've always suspected that people like you secretly really know this, since you all seem to remain securely ensconced within the protected world of government or academia where one can be well insulated from the ugly realities of the real world.

"Dependence Day". Brilliant. So we got another mediocre jobs report demonstrating that our economy is continuing to retract, not expand as Obama would like you to believe. Oh if we could only actually live in the shell that those people cheering him in Wisconsin yesterday were living in.

The part I loved was all those millennials with 5 or 6 figures of student loan debt cheering about a rising stock market. WTF? Cheap money and an asset bubble has been great for older and debt-free folks like me who've had the opportunity to build a positive balance sheet and ride the wave. But it's totally useless to you young folk who can't even get decent paying jobs to pay off your student loans, much less afford investing. And once interest rates start to rise again, you kids will be doubly ripped. But Obama will be long gone by then, making 6-figures a day lecturing about "income inequality" just like the Clintons do.

Oh, and Obama thinks he just gave everyone a raise, or at least those who will be getting to keep their jobs. Brilliant.

And again, will someone please ask any of these candidates exactly how de-facto open borders that continue to flood the marketplace with cheap labor does anything helpful for the middle class that all these phonies think they're pandering to! Seems to the that the only candidate that has a grasp of that problem is Donald Trump. Sad, isn't it?

Oh Busty! Now that gay marriage is a done deal, we can fight for polygamy. There's hope for us yet! If you do floors, Mrs. Econ will be okay with it.

Who is the model who plays Busty Ross, please? I'm sure I've seen her before, but I'm darned if I know where.

@TMay, I love Santa Cruz. It's where Progressives go when they find San Francisco is just a bit too right-wing for their comfort, or to escape the consequences of leftist urban policy.

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

@David in SoCal- Great video, and a tonic for recent events. Thanks for posting!

@rickn8or- Ohhh say can you seeeee....

@TMay- Everything is likely to upset someone these days. I certainly have sympathy for any vets with PTSD, but I'm betting that they're not actually the ones offering up that argument.

@Ron Russell- I was shocked, shocked!, to discover that your blog has scantily clad women mixed in with the politics. And I fully expect to be just as shocked every time I return to your site.

@REM1875- It's sad that there are so many places in America where citizens have to ask "fireworks or gunfire?" when things start booming.

@Dave in Cheese Head Nation- I share your concerns, but I especially share your appreciation of those who have sacrificed so much for this nation. Even at my most pessimistic, I never lose sight of the fact that this is the greatest country on Earth.

@Geoff King- Hooray for climate change!

@American Cowboy- It is ironic that draconian surveillance is now considered a crucial component of freedom. These are strange times...

@Juanita the Icon- These days I just have to shake my head about Barry. I was surprised to hear George Takei's entirely unacceptable racial slur against Clarence Thomas ("he's a clown in blackface") in which we see, for the umpteenth time, that liberals actually believe that "blackness" is a political rather than racial characteristic.

Takei has since issued an apology with makes the laughable claim that "blackface is a theatrical term" which wasn't intended to offend. Oh my...

@TrickyRicky- I feel like if the founding fathers could look at what's going on today, they might have just said "screw it" and called everything off. On the other hand, what they accomplished stood as an example for the world for a long time - and hopefully will again.

@Chish McFicken- The government is encouraging people to use solar-powered fireworks this year. Unfortunately, they don't work at night.

@John the Econ- I wish Lucy's feelings about this country were a complete fiction, but I see too much evidence of liberals who - living in freedom and comfort - attack our nation as a blight upon the Earth.

Glad you liked the "Dependence Day" observation; I was pleased when I thought of it, but then saddened when I realized how damn accurate it is. Regarding the stock market, I'm continually amused/appalled by the number of people who think that a roaring stock market means that the overall economy is good.

Good piece about Obama's "raise" for employees putting in overtime (who soon will find that they're not getting the hours). And howzabout the barely reported fact that Barry's team will now be fining employers if they help pay medical expenses or deductibles for employees on Obamacare? Funny how the media wants to report the "raise" Obama is giving the barely-employed, but not reporting on this cut to their benefits.

Regarding polygamy, I'll let Busty know your proposal, but the whole "doing floors" thing may kill the deal for you. By the way, I agree with Judge Roberts (for once) that polygamy will absolutely be made legal using the same arguments which were just applied to gay marriage. This is what happens when words (and the Constitution) cease to have meaning.

@Hopalong Ginsberg- It's possible that you've previously seen her in your dreams. (grin)

rickn8or said...

I don't care so much about polygamy, if you bite off more than you can chew, then it's your own fault; but I would like my CCW to be honored in all fifty states and DC, just like my driver's license, my marriage license and my divorce decree.

Not if you marry sisters. This also cuts the "Where do we go for the holidays" problem down from three possibilities to two, just like the rest of us.
