Oh The Humanity
Following immense criticism of the government's lackluster and counterproductive response to the Gulf oil spill, the Obama administration has finally authorized the use of...a blimp.
This is not a blimp that can cap the gushing well, nor is it a blimp which can skim oil. Neither does it warn wildlife away from blighted areas, nor redirect the unceasing flow of contamination.
It is, instead, a slow-moving balloon which will chug-chug-chug along over the ocean and send occasional radio messages to the oil-skimming boats below saying: "Hey, you missed a spot."
Not exactly rocket science but, in fairness, even NASA doesn't engage in rocket science under the Obama administration.
We will also note, because people are frequently confused by the distinction, that it is blimps which are held aloft by helium...and it is Washington which rises above us all solely by hot air.

This is a link to a video time line of obama doing nothing about the oil spill. I work in the oil field and have lost my job because of obama's drilling ban. I called BP claims line, they ask me what I did and I told them I lost my job because there was no work. They told me at this time they were not paying people who lost their job because of obama's ban. What happened to me was not a direct result of the spill. I have called my 2 senators and representative several times and they say they can't do anything about it. Our congress can over ride obama if they choose to, but they have no backbone either. We are in one hell of a mess. I hope the working class of America wakes up and get out and vote in November. http://vimeo.com/12933322
...and it is all somehow Bush's fault. Obama apparently inherited his lackluster approach to his duties from Bush, just as he "inherited" the $1.2 TRILLION budget the house just "enforced" by resolution. How you can inherit anything over a year into your own administration is beyond me, but it fits the liberals "Back To The Future" sense of accountability.
November's coming. Let's all brave the Black Panthers with nightsticks legally (apparently, based on DOJ actions) loitering near the polling places and make our voices heard...
No doubt Obama wanted a federal contribution that would match his own personal effectiveness, thus the blimp. He does nothing, it does nothing.
Spinelessobama- Sorry to hear that this president has put you out of work. And you're confirming what I'd read elsewhere...that BP doesn't plan to reimburse people who are idled by a presidential edict instead of the actual spill.
Jobs go away, families get hurt, and the best offshore rigs pull up stakes and move to other parts of the world... increasing the risk of future blowouts (when inferior rigs are brought in), and increasing our dependency on foreign oil.
Maybe Barack H. Obama's middle name is actually "Hindenburg."
Was there a cartoon? I just saw 3 frames and two large gas filled containers. :)
Buzz- It's sort of a "glass half empty / glass half full" rorschach test. There's a cartoon if you think there is. (grin)
Not another test, there was that Wassermann a couple days ago and now this.
Stilton,
Thanks. You are right about the rigs, once they leave they usually don't come back. obama wants us to be slaves to the middle east. BP is big business and big business can do whatever they want. We have the best government money can buy. I know this ban is affecting me and others right now, but how bad is it going to affect everyone when gas hits $6-$7 a gallon. When gas prices hit $5 it hurt everybody bad. It is amazing how gas went up right before the election, by gas going up like it did helped elect obama. Right after the election it went back down, it just sounds fishy to me. The high gas prices does not bother our leaders because we the tax payer will pay for theirs. We need to stand up and take away their retirement and healthcare and a hell of a big pay cut. If we paid them on what they did, they would be owing us money. I hope this is a good sign, everybody I have talked to lately are mad as hell with Washington and that is a good thing.
You know, just this morning I was pimping on a local blogger (a liberal University professor). Hardly anyone reads his blog, but I went ahead and put a lot of effort into posting a comment. This is going to be long, but SpinelessObama has prompted me to repost it here, as it is relevant to what he is experiencing.
The "set-up" is that here in WI, Russ Feingold (D) is being challenged by political newcomer Ron Johnson (R), and incumbent Feingold is only 2 points up, which is not good territory for an incumbent. The Feingold campaign thinks they have hit political paydirt because multimillionaire Ron Johnson owns some shares of BP stock, so obviously he will put his financial interests ahead of the country.
Anyway, what follows is what I posted:
I look forward to Johnson shining a light on how hedge fund meister George Soros (majority owner of Democratic Party) is set to benefit from the Gulf oil disaster. BP's criminal negligence and Obama administration's criminal incompetence have combined to create a perfect storm for Soros to score again (he made a billion dollars in one day hedging on the British pound).
Connect these dots:
Soros Invests $811 Million In Brazilian Oil
"August 15, 2008
London: Billionaire investor George Soros bought an $811 million stake in Petroleo Brasileiro (Petrobras) in the second quarter, making the Brazilian state-controlled oil company his investment fund’s largest holding."
U.S. Ready to Finance Oil Drilling in Brazil
"8/5/2009
The U.S. government is prepared to provide up to $10 billion in loans to finance the development of massive hydrocarbon reserves off Brazil’s coast, a Brazilian official said Wednesday."
The Drilling Ban Is Soros' Bonanza
"Last August, the U.S. Export-Import Bank issued a "preliminary commitment" letter to Brazil's state-run Petrobras in the amount of $2 billion, with the promise of more to follow. Why are we lending billions to a foreign oil company that made $15 billion last year?"
"The irony is that most of the deep-water rigs idled by the moratorium may shortly be snapped up by a Petrobras apparently undeterred by images of tar balls on Rio's beaches. Petrobras plans to drill to a depth of 14,022 feet, a depth that makes our 500-foot limit laughable."
"If the moratorium stands and energy prices rise, the only ones to profit will be foreign-owned companies such as Petrobras and investors such as George Soros, who has an investment in the oil giant in the neighborhood of $900 million. Yes, the same George Soros who also is a major investor in the Democratic Party and President Obama's 2008 campaign."
"Soros would love to see domestic offshore drilling shut down and those three dozen deep-water rigs sitting idle shipped off to the coast of Brazil. He has a huge investment in both Petrobras and the Democrats. He expects a return on all his investments."
"While we track the trail of oil gushing from Deepwater Horizon, we should also follow the money that will be gushing into George Soros' bank account, courtesy of the U.S. government and the American taxpayer."
alan- Thanks for sharing. We've been keeping an eye on Soros, and everything you say here is accurate and frightening. He's a man well-positioned to cripple this country for his own financial gain and political interests. And he owns an entire political party to help him do it.
