Ask Questions Later
The mainstream press and Democrats have made it clear that in the future, no political questions should be asked, nor opinions stated, which could even conceivably reach the ears of a homicidal lunatic. In Washington DC, liberal legislators are trying to figure out how to codify this policy as law, but there's a major flaw in that plan.
As Pima County Sheriff Clarence "Talk Radio" Dupnik has pointed out, he knew that Jared Lee Loughner was a dangerous mental case for years...but he couldn't act until after Loughner started killing people. Similarly, the Democrats' "Don't Stir Up The Loonies" bill wouldn't prevent political disagreement, it would only give authorities the ability to prosecute after the fact...when blood (or more tragically, printer's ink) had already spilled. And that's just not good enough.
Which is why the obvious answer is for Barack Obama to give Robert Gibbs' now-available job as Press Secretary to Jared Lee Loughner.
What better way to assure that no unpleasant questions will be asked in the future? How else can we guarantee that political speech is properly modulated to keep schizophrenics smiling and happy?
Oh sure, a few namby-pamby reporters on the Whitehouse beat may be a little uncomfortable at first...but if Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin aren't in the press room to stir him up, then Loughner is utterly harmless.
After all...that's what those same press people are telling the American public.

Is it just me, or does this nutcase look like Uncle Fester?
Is Gibbs behind the insider book by anonymous? Bwahaha that douchebag does look like uncle fester.
Terrific cartoon Stilton. You just put a face to the insanity of the left regarding the Arizona shootings.
Earl
I was going to make a remark about you pushing the envelope with that cartoon, but I don't think you really are. The goons and suck-ups of the current regime have been working their considerable arses off trying to connect Loughner to Palin and Limbaugh and any other conservative they can think of. You have thrown it right back in their faces with that cartoon, welding the tactics and philosophy of Duh Won to a murderous psychopath. Turnabout truly is fair play and you turned about beautifully. Kudos, Stilton.
It will be interesting to hear how the president addresses the shootings tonight in Arizona. He has an opportunity to speak truth and show leadership in this situation. He blew it with the Cambridge situation and his initial comments regarding the shootings in Fort Hood. Did he even mention the Christmas Eve bomber or was he on vacation? Anyway, he has an opportunity to pleasantly surprise us. I honestly don't know what he'll say, but I know what I think he SHOULD say.
Earl
He'll fit right in with Obama's creepy cast of characters, like "Ghoulsbee".
Angry Hoosier Dad- Glad you liked the cartoon. I didn't go this route lightly, or without concern that it could be misconstrued. But when you boil it down, all I've done is create a visual which accurately illustrates what the left seems to be demanding: our freedom of speech judged and parceled out by a madman.
With all the commentary flying around the blogosphere I've forgotten where I first read this, but as someone pointed out regarding the knee-jerk reaction of politicians to pass legislation in response to an event like this, any policy or law implemented in response to an irrational act will be an irrational policy or law.
And when you look at this tragedy through the lens of history, there have been assassinations and attempted assassinations by deranged individuals throughout American history. Did we restrict Jodie Foster movies when John Hinkley shot President Reagan?
Cen Tex - Probably here, Sunday aftn... and EXCELLENT point w/ the Jodi Foster movies...
If whacko had driven a car into the crowd and run down as many people as he could, would we be hearing calls for "car control"? If Sheriff Dupnik had taken the initiative to somehow put whacko in an institution, would the ACLU have jumped on him? What is lost (purposely?) in all this "there ought to be a law!" clamor is that easily 80 million Americans saw the DNC crosshair ads, heard The Dear Golfer proclaim "If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun", and so on, and yet there was not an outbreak of political violence. Centuries ago there would hvae duels with pistols or swords!
To expect anything less than "pure insanity" from the left at this point is like looking for Santa in July... I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Obongo announced that he was going to resolve this situation by holding a hospital bedside "Beer Summit" with Gifford, Loughner, and himself.
Check out the latest headlines...the freak's friend says that he never even listened to talk radio or watched political tv or news. YEAH. I suppose we should not except an apology, much less a reversal of the rolling ball towards gun and speech control....
Oh brother..."ACCEPT"....sorry...snow froze my spelling I guess....
Oh brother again..it should be "expect". Stilt can you fix my mess? Thanks. haha. *blush*
Stilton:
Our Bill of Rights was penned in recognition of those liberties granted by God, so that they could not be "judged and parceled out" by anyone; madman, misguided benevolent or socialist tool. That the current regime wishes to do so should give us all pause. I am always more afraid of the persistent despot than the occasional lunatic.
Suzy- I can't make corrections in other people's posts... but I think your point is well made (and a little levity today is very welcome!)
Angry Hoosier Dad- "I am always more afraid of the persistent despot than the occasional lunatic." I wish we could put that sentence on billboards immediately. You're exactly right.
This is my 'sanity room'...a large part of this country has lost all sense of reality, I think it all started back with 'change we can believe in'.
No, actually before that, way back when mainstreaming people who were mentally off-balance was an idea that some thought was good. Now, they are mixed among us and you never know when one is gonna go off! Nothing political here, just a bad decision, for some sort of leftist agenda, I'm sure.
What's the problem? President Obama has been on the cover of several of the large magazines.... Also he has also been favor in the past of changing peoples' behavior by using a sin tax. Another name for grammer last time I checked.
Can anyone say, "The Great Society"?
pryorguy- The widespread use of nearly invisible Bluetooth headsets hasn't helped matters either; it used to be that when people were having animated conversations with nobody visible, you knew they were (ahem) "different." Now the only difference between a schizophrenic and a chatterbox is an LED indicator light.
moronpolitics- There's actually a lot of truth in the idea of controlling thoughts through grammer. Healthcare "reform?" Infanticide as "choice?" "Undocumented" instead of illegal? All word games...with very high stakes.
Words mean things, and to alter, change, or even eliminate certain words changes the very fabric of our nation. When we cease to have the freedoms enumerated in The Constitution, we cease to be America and thus we cease to exist.
I agree with "hoosier" about the persistent despot being worse than the occasion whack job. Even worse than that though is a president despot, which is exactly what we have.
