April Pupdate

Readers- We're still working on our taxes and are therefore harboring particularly ugly feelings about the government which could easily cause us to say something we'd eventually regret...assuming that a hellfire missile fired from one of Barry's drones gives you time for regret.

So instead of moving up a few notches on the president's "kill" list, we're doing an update on Penny - the official dog of Hope n' Change!

Penny is a bit over 5 months old now which, according to a dog survival manual we're reading, is the start of the period between 5 and 7 months in which all dogs go through a transitional period of being Tasmanian devils. On meth. Seriously, she puts out more energy every day than Solyndra produced in its entire existence.

Penny has been growing fast and is currently about 30 pounds - and we have no idea how big she'll eventually be (we think she's a shepherd/beagle mix, although there seems to be a hint of mountain goat in there, too). We've recently enrolled her in obedience training and she appears to be pretty smart. At least, she's smart enough not to do anything until she knows she'll get a special treat for it, much like most politicians.

Happily, she's already won our hearts - not to mention winning a number of skirmishes in the long-fought battle to sit on the furniture. And while we still miss our previous dog mightily, Penny really has helped us cope with the loss - especially in the evenings when, owing to some miracle, our hyperactive pup turns into a loving, sleepy little source of warmth, comfort and existential peace.

In short, Penny is a (sometimes exhausting) joy and comfort for the whole Jarlsberg family. Although Mrs. Jarlsberg points out that she does have a slight resemblance to Bark Obama. Especially when she's eating her own poop.

bark obama, obama, obama jokes, dog, penny, russia, putin, stilton jarlsberg, hope n' change

Wonderful photos and update Stilton. We miss our girl, who we lost in January, horribly and every day. There will be no replacing her, but we are thinking about getting a new canine buddy this summer. I'm glad she's bringing you so much joy.

Ought to get Mooch'el one of those "maze bowls" to slow down her taxpayer-supported lobster consumption.

Dogs rule!, cats have stinky stool. Here is a website you may find interesting:

The first entry is my favorite quotation about dogs.

I am SOOOO glad I read H&C. I would have NEVER known that Reggie Love was a Russian Wolfhound otherwise!

Wahoo, (sounds like some kind of drink), your moniker for the "first ho" makes me think of what Mexicans call her regarding the extravagant vacations she/it takes on OUR money... "El Mooch"!

So cool, Doc. Penny looks wonderful.

Dogs are great. Never thought of a "maze bowl". What a great idea.

And he is not called "Vlad The Impaler" for nuttin'. He definitely has Barry's back, and not in a good way. Except for the Unicorn Prince. Oooh, baby. Oink.

Good luck with taxes. Damn the IRS. (The opinions expressed herein are mine alone, not the Doc's - just saying IRS.)

Thanks for the update. It's refreshing to see something positive every once in a while.

Forgot to share a couple of ditties (careful) from this morning's news - Sorry, wish I was better at HTML.

Racism - the never ending story of the so-called "progressives": http://time.com/49920/hank-aaron-babe-ruth-baseball-home-run/ - you just know they are talking about H&Ccartoons. Where would the "progressives" be without racism???? You shall conform in all things including your thought and speech.

And the morbidly obese Grey Lady continues to argue for the Imperial President, while we have one in office, abdicating the special role of the press for the gentle touch on the backside by the Unicorn Prince: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/06/opinion/sunday/yes-he-can-on-immigration.html?hp&rref=opinion&_r=0

Thanks a million Stilton. I was getting ready to ask you how Penny is doing.

@TrickyRicky- I've always been a skeptic about the "get another dog while you're grieving" camp, but I have a somewhat different understanding of the process now. Getting the new dog is NOT a replacement for the previous dog, and doesn't directly help heal the loss - but that new pup can be a mighty distraction while you're healing.

Also, one of the hardest things for me was losing the ability to touch Maggie; I used to say she had "communicable zen" because just by laying my hand on her, I felt calmer and more in the "now." Having Penny in our lives helps a lot with that physical loss.

@Wahoo- Now that is a funny line!

@Geoff King- I enjoyed the quote. I think more highly of dogs than people as a rule.

@Bruce Bleu- Obama, on the other hand, is a Spitz. (Think about it)

@Chuck Ef- The bowl is the "Drop Slo-Bowl" and it works great. It now takes Penny 10 minutes to eat the food that it formerly took her 20 seconds to inhale. I'm now trying to find out if they also make whiskey glasses.

I'm nearing the end of doing the taxes, but it wasn't a pleasant emotional journey to go through all of the receipts that tell the tale of 2013. It was a year that stunk on many levels - but happily, 2014 is a big improvement.

@CenTexTim- Believe me, it's a pleasure to have something positive to say for a change!

@Chuck Ef- You ask a great question: where would Progressives be if they couldn't use the accusation of racism as their ultimate weapon? Seriously, I think their whole movement would blow apart like dandelion fluff in a tornado.

Regarding the NY Times, I think they (and every so-called journalistic outfit of their ilk) deserves a special place in hell.

@Dave Wallace- I'm glad to oblige. It's a refreshing change of pace for me to be able to talk about something other than politics here.

The cartoon is Spot on Stilton. :) And so pleased that Penny is the treasure I was praying she would be. Our two new eight month old Jack Russell Terrorists are adjusting as well. They do the same hyper-active during the day / peace loving at night routine. I don't care. At least they're (finally) housebroken.
God bless.

Great pooch shots; glad things are good there! Has anyone seen this email with Barry Saetoro's 'foreign student' photo ID card? Did it actually just turn up? Seems kinda lame to me but at this point, "what difference does it make anyway?"

I can't NOT WAIT for the next ....PUPDATE and new pictures. YOUR BLOG IS GREAT ......THANKS FOR THE WORK YOU DO.

Pry,
In keeping with the doggie theme of this thread, bathhouse-barry's foreign student ID has been around for years, but "what difference, at this pointer, does it make?"

Thanks, Doc, for clarifying my words. Your repeated what I wrote but the way that I MEANT to write it, if that makes in any sense.

"where would Progressives be if they couldn't use the accusation of racism as their ultimate weapon? Seriously, I think their whole movement would blow apart like dandelion fluff in a tornado."

Yup, yup, yup, precisely.
